Plot Overview
I'm interested in running a roleplay scenario for myself and three other people which takes the Persona concept to a completely different setting. Far from Japan, our characters are students attending high school in the fictional Ohio town known as Lanham. The students of this community are known for telling tall tales of mysterious staircases that never end and secret passages behind the library bookcases. It is like a game to them debunking these silly rumors, testing the ridiculous methods behind them and feigning excitement before laughing off the inevitable failure.
Laughing, indeed, until one of these rumors comes true. An awful tale about a disturbing website that seems at first to be completely empty. However, users wearing headphones could hear faint noises lulling them to sleep. Should a user fall asleep while accessing the site, they would never wake up again.
Our characters are tasked with investigating the site and, spoilers, they'll gain Personas and battle shadows along the way.
For Those Interested
Participants will be expected to create a character sheet that teaches us both about their character and the characteristics of their Persona.
I won't be too harsh with the character. Age, gender, personality, appearance, all that standard stuff will be expected as well as a brief backstory. Ages should definitely be between 16 and 18, since those are pretty standard for Americans in their 2nd-4th year of High School, and I feel a bit uncomfortable about throwing someone younger than that into these dangerous situations.
Personas are a bit harder to explain, but I'll make mine first so everyone else can see what I'm expecting. To give a general idea, though, your character's main Persona should be based upon a historical or mythological figure, should have a forte (Physical offense, Elemental offense, Support, Healing, etc.), and should have basic elemental affinities. I don't plan on having an in-depth combat system, but knowing these properties will help us visualize them anyway.
I'd also like one participant to be the Wild Card, which is the leader of the group who will have access to multiple canon Personas like in the games. I can take this role, but I'd prefer it be someone else so they can interact more organically with Igor and the Velvet Room attendants, who will be controlled by me.
The Flow of Time
As GM, I'll control the flow of time. Unlike the games, we won't be dealing with Social Links and such, so the calendar year will progress rather quickly. Days I deem unnecessary will be skipped, though anyone may feel free to PM me or post in OOC if they object to me skipping a certain time frame. My intention is to keep the plot moving without us getting bogged down at one point in time.
Our year will begin in late August, which is another difference from the Persona games. This is to align more naturally with an American school system.
This is perhaps a somewhat ambitious project for a relative newbie, but I really want to put my idea into practice. Persona veterans and noobs are all welcome, and I'll try to keep the logic accessible to both. Hope this scenario sparks some interest!
