SMITED Lore

The Founding & History

When SMITED was first formed, before it took on a modern name, the founder set forth to seek out the leaders of the supernatural races. From these meetings, eventually The Accords were officially agreed upon.

Thses accords were proposed for the protections of both supernatural and mundane races. Due to the steady advancement of mortal technology, the Founder recognized the need to accept that one day they would all be exposed. Instead of being unprepared and risking unnecessary loss of life and even facing extinction or annihilation, the Founder suggested forming an alliance with a common objective.

The Accords respect the supernaturals rights to protect their traditions and culture, but also discourages unjustified violence towards mudanes, as any threats could provoke retaliation. Supernaturals could defend themselves against a mundane if required, for their own protection and survival, or the protection of another.

Not all supernatural races agreed. Those of a malevolent nature refused, ignoring the laws set forth by the Accords. Those races that refused to accept the Accords and threaten the precarious peace with mundanes are strictly dealt with by those who form the Accords; supernatural and mundane.

The Founder served as a mediator between the mundane and the supernatural, placing the enforcement agency as a neutral entity that would not be swayed by the governments of either. This neutrality was originally accepted by both sides. However, as time passed and SMITED officially revealed the existence of the supernatural races, both sides became upset with the agency.

The Revelation

With what the media called “The Revelation” tensions between the mundane and supernatural increased. Most mundanes were fearful due to the otherness of these previously unknown races. The supernaturals felt threatened by their sudden exposure.

Both sides - feeling threatened - struggled to adapt. Governments suddenly had to determine what rights supernaturals were entitled to. The supernatural races protected their territories fiercely, fearing attacks from the mundanes.

The only thing they had in common at the start was their anger towards the agency that had revealed them. They all blamed the agency for creating international chaos. The mundane governments declined to accept The Accords.

The Present

It has been only five years since “The Revelation” and the agency officially named itself The Supernatural/Mortal Institute for Threat Elimination and Defense; SMITED. Its relationships with the world’s governments and the supernatural races is still fragile, though trust has slowly been rebuilding as the agency continues with its mission.

SMITED still works as a independent agency, serving both mundanes and supernaturals, with the goal of protecting both sides equally. The mundane government’s displeasure over the agency refusing to answer to them has still not ended, but they will still request the services of the agency.

Agency Location

The main office of SMITED is located at the base of Piz Lagrev, which is southwest of Engadin St. Moritz, Saint Moritz, Switzerland. There are smaller offices throughout the world, but the main hub of activity goes through the Switzerland office.

The Accords

The Accords are agreements formed between the supernatural races and SMITED. Currently, the mundane governments have not agreed to join the Accord.

  • The agency is responsible for enforcement of the Accords.
  • The agency is responsible to defend against those supernaturals who commit evil acts.
  • The supernaturals have the right to protect and preserve their culture and traditions.
  • All Magicians must be registered through The Syndicate.

HUMANITIES

The school for HUMANITIES - Humans, Understanding Motivations of Associations within Needs of Interactions with Technologies, Interpreted for Every Species - is a agency run school meant to help fantastical races who have been secluded from the modern world of humans. Courses here are optional and completely free for any fantastical race to attend to better understand the current world and technology.

Agents of SMITED - who are particularly out of touch with modern society - may be required to take a few courses, though generally this is a voluntary option for them.

(Credit to Tarmagon Tarmagon for the acronym.)

FABLE
