Slatnemele High

Jessica giggled

"Maybe I shouldnt drag you anymore. Thats super anoying." She looked up at the door. It looked like everyother door but for some reason Aoibhean's room eminated this kind of regalness to it. Jessica didnt know why. But she felt it. And she had a felling that Aoibhean's room was going to be very ornate.

The door opened to the two young women not by Aoibheann but by liveried servants that were, in all honestly, fire sprites. Many of the ancient lines had familiars of their elements to act as servants. Though they didn't necessarily cleaned or prepared food they could be called upon to behave as footmen and even a lady's maid if one were required.

The dorm wasn't so much a single room but a set of apartments that had been deocrated, richly, in the house colors of Blue and White, or silver, depending. There were four doors, three of which were actual bedrooms and one which was a shared bathroom that boasted two showers, a large tub, three toilets, and three sinks.

The common room itself wasn't so much as painted or had wallpaper but was covered in robin's egg blue silk and had ancient celtic motifs etched in lines of silver. On the walls hung large tapestries and paintings of the notable members of the family through the ages, or rather, the family members who had attended this school since its construction. It had been bigger at one point but, two hundred years ago the school opened for girls and the House Dormitory had to be separated to allow for girls. The boys of their house were just the next door over.

In the center of the room was a table, small for the large appearance of the room, but it seated six comfortably and was placed in front of a large grate that was lit with a very small but warm fire. More servants entered the room and began to serve the food. A girl of 14 and a young man of 17 or 18 appeared both wearing clothing similar to Aoibheann entered. "Oh good, I thought I felt Aoibheann's invitation. Not that we have to be invited to eat at our own table, though right?" The girl looked at the two guests. "I'm Kathleen, Aoibehann's cousin- I'm a Water element, even though we're of the same House. My father is her father's brother. My mother is a Water element, though her family isn't as old as the Hayes." She smiled and shook their hands. "I have some impossible to spell and pronounce Irish name too but you can just call me Kathleen, or Katy, either way, it works. I don't have to be as formal as Ava since my father's the third son and he married a Water, you couldn't imagine the scandal that that caused." She wrinkled her nose as one of the liveried sprites frowned at her. "It's a good thing I'm comfortable around so much fire. Mom hates it, but she's got no fire in her so, there you go."

"Kathleen, you speak too much." He bowed formally to the two girls. "How do you ladies do? Unlike my cousin, I am of the Earth. My mother is a Fire elemental of this house and my Father is from an English Earth line but, because they have no ties to this school and my mother's family does, I dress in the appropriate clothing of this family. Like Aoibheann, I have a certain level of formality to which I am bound so you will forgive me if I am not as, relaxed, as my cousin. I am James Hammersmith of the Yorkshire Hammersmiths, a very proper English family."

"And, of course, we must be very proper, musn't we cousin?"

"Indeed Aoibheann, indeed." He bowed to the ladies then held out a chair. "If the Dragon would honor me, it will be my very great pleasure to seat you."

Aoibheann smiled. "He means you Crystal. James, Katy, these are our guests, Crystal the Dragon and Jessica the Spirit Talker."

I stepped in feebly, as someone opened the door, and gasped in amazement when it wasn't Aoibheann, but a fire sprite. I smiled meekly at the fire sprite and looked around at Aoibheann's 'room', and gasped again, louder this time. It wasn't a room. It looked more like a castle. The regal atmosphere made me feel awkward, but I waved it away and continued into the room.

It was absolutely amazing. I sighed. Two people, a girl and a man, entered the room. They were dressed just like Aoibheann, so I guessed that they were related to her. I smiled as Kathleen introduced herself and talked about her element and stuff. I liked her, she was really talkative.

Just then the man told Kathleen she talked to much. I tried not to giggle. He bowed, and I blushed. I nodded along as he told us his element, Earth, and of his family. He bowed again, and then held out a chair. Aoibheann said I was the dragon. The dragon? I shrugged to myself, mentally of course, and sat down, smiling at the man as I did so.

I didn't know what a 'dragon' was, but I was guessing it was something of rarity, which was why no one else had the same eyes as me, and which was also why a young man from a proper, respected English Family was seating me.

James bowed again even as the other ladies were seated by the Sprites then took his own seat at the foot of the table, just to Crystal's left. Jessica was seated next to her while Katy was seated across from them with Aoibheann was at the front. James allowed a servant to unfold his napkin and waited patiently for the starter to arrive. "I do hope you'll forgive us," Aoibheann spoke as a plate was presented to her, "we don't eat like this for lunch normally but this is a special occasion, it is not every day that we host a Dragon at our table and the first of such meals should always be an occasion."

Katy smirked as she crossed herself before eating. "Ava, you're just saying that because you can't wait to shove Lata's face in it."

Aoibheann shrugged. "I have no idea what you're talking about. Lata is a shrew of a woman and is cruel. She'd take a Dragon and use her for her own purposes." She looked directly at Crystal. "I have a cousin on my mother's side who is, shall we say, not the nicest person. But Katy is right, having a Dragon as a guest is a huge coup."

Jessica giggled

"I knew your place would be ornate. Look at me being smart." She smiled brightly and sat down.

"Im Jessica. Most people around the school know me as the Angel but if you call me Jessie you will regret it majorly. Aoibhean already told you that I talk to spirts and she informed me eliear about....oh what were they.....Oh yeah! They were Shades and Im not quite sure what those are. If someone could help me while Aoibhean helps Crystal. I came for moral support......and the Shade thing." Jessica sighed and giggled rolling her eyes "Look at me, Im rambling. Let me shut up now."

(( well me and pinky are in Aoibhean's room for extra help durring lunch. IDK where you wanna be but I can throw David in for you so they can have an argument or something IDK ))

I blushed when Aoibheann explained to us that she didn't normally eat like this, but it was because they normally didn't have a dragon with them. It was kinda getting irritating. Everyone thought I knew a lot, but I didn't.

"What is a dragon? I mean, yeah, I can use all the elements but I need to harness my powers. Yesterday, I had no idea at all that there was a school for elementals, or that there was such thing. And neither did I know I was an elemental. And I don't know a lot. So to be honest, it's not that much of a big deal." I sighed. I thought I had said a bit too much maybe. Oh well. It was true!

I shivered when Aoibheann told me that Lata was an evil woman that would love to use me for her own purposes. Okay, she wasn't evil. Just... unpleasant.

I rolled my eyes as Jessica rambled on about herself. Not that she sounded selfish. She was just so talkative.

Okay, guys gotta go. See you tomorrow!!

:) This is sooo fun.

"Ai Min!Baby!",Jung Hwa said, excitement in his eyes and joy written in his facial expressions as he ran over to the beautiful,Senior Korean earth elemental girl, who was standing in front of her Fire Elemental class."Jung Hwa",Ai Min said smiling brightly, her voice was like an angel's voice, beautiful, gentle, and just enchanting. He hugged her and picked her up,spinning her around, while they both laughed. He set her down and released her,but laced their hands together as they walked down the hall to the cafeteria where Tai and Soul were."I hope you don't mind sitting with them, love",he said to Ai Min who giggled and shook her head."Not at all,I haven't spoken to Soul or Tai in a while",she responded as Jung Hwa smiled."Welcome love birds",Soul said chuckling as Jung Hwa and Ai Min sat down in front of them,Jung Hwa was holding her plate of food and his.

"You two don't share a plate?",Tai questioned, smirking."That is only on Mondays and Fridays,Tai",Ai Min said jokingly as the three boys chuckled.

People stared in envy at Ai Min and Jung Hwa,never fighting, always lovey, faithful, honest, the ideal couple.Ai Min laughed as Jung Hwa whispered something into her ear and pulled back smiling."So...what are you two doing for your anniversary tomorrow?",Soul questioned, curiosity in his eyes."A date~",Jung Hwa said excitedly.Ai Min giggled,"Jung Hwa won't tell me where he's taking me".Tai smirked,"Watch after tomorrow, they'll be an official engaged couple".Soul laughed as Ai Min and Jung Hwa blushed but smiled at the though

What was there but a whisper of her name? A few sounds carried by the winds. The shingles and shutters of the building start shaking slightly as the wind outside picks up.

Speak not of the devil, lest they appear.

The door is practically flung open. Dressed in gaudy clothing and showing enough skin to get attention, Lata whistles loudly. "Aoibheann! Why did I have to hear it from someone else that you had found a Dragon?! You know I love our chats. It hurts me to the core that you didn't let me know!"

The way she walked was like she weighed nothing at all, a looping almost melodic stride, Lata came off as what she was. A Wind Dancer, a controller of Wind and Storms, and purveyor of whispers.

Pulling up a chair, she takes a seat beside Aoibheann, straddling the chair backwards. "And how are you love?"

Amber-Soleil-21-681x1024.jpg

Aoibheann looked up, startled when the door just opened with a gush of wind. "Aoibheann! Why did I have to hear it from someone else that you had found a Dragon?! You know I love our chats. It hurts me to the core that you didn't let me know!"

"I didn't tell you because you're annoying and the Dragon isn't ready to meet you yet. She doesn't even know what she is. So sit down, be quiet, eat your lunch and let me explain."

James smirked. "You're looking radiant Lata, as always."

"As I was saying, or least about to say." She glared at Lata but turned her attention to Crystal. "You wouldn't know what a Dragon is at that, nor why there is anything special about you. Dragons of Wisdom are people who are able to connect all the elements and the spirit world together. I can control fire and I can use fire to impact the other elements. A Spirit Talker can get in touch with spirits, not just the Shades of the Dead, but with Sprites, Elemental Spirits. But a Dragon can connect all of them. There is so much power that will eventually be yours to command."

She toyed with her salad as her cousin picked up where she left off. "All the elements came from the Four Dragons, the Dragons of Air, Fire, Water, and Earth but then humans came onto the scene and each of the Dragons required to give up some of their nature to help create the humans. Those who have a direct link to the Dragons are known as Elementals and there are many families who have worked hard to preserve their family's line so that there won't be any non-elemental blood in the family line."

"Which is why my father's marriage was such a shock. My mother's family isn't as pure blooded as the family would have liked. Mother has non-elementals in her lineage which means there's always a chance that someone won't have the power. I have an Uncle who has nothing"

"But you, you're a Dragon and no one is entirely sure how your kind have come to be, there's someone here who is studying Dragons to figure out how they come about, he's going to want to study you too. Anyway the old family lines are very strict on who they will and will not marry but, if you're a Dragon, it doesn't matter if you have no ancestry, just about everyone is going to want a piece of you." She wrinkedl her nose at Lata. "Even annoying social climbers like Lata, who isn't eating her salad, of course."

"That is because Salads are so droll. Only good for making fun of. You do know that very few people bother with anything like salads anymore. I prefer to get into the meat of the subject as soon as possible."

She inches closer to Aoibheann, enjoying the uncomfortable vibes she was feeling, while smiling at Crystal. "And who wouldn't want a piece of this lovely girl. Despite not being well versed, I'm sure she is quite fun to be around."

Lata tilts her head a little, reading over Crystal and her rather boring friend. "Soo....are you enjoying school so far? There is so much going on! Any crushes yet?"

To top it all off, Lata giggles.

I stared at Lata as she came in. She sure didn't look like an evil woman. She looked like a ... Well, the opposite of Aoibheann. £I simply shrugged it off. Of course she wasn't going to kidnap me. But the way she was eyeing me gave me the creeps. I nodded along as they told me what a Dragon was. When they told me I would be researched on, I flinched. As interesting as it was, I didn't like to be the center of attention. Especially not this much attention.

I nodded when Lata asked me how school was going. The way she talked with such an air of confidence gave off such an aura of menace. "No not any crushes..." I blushed bright red.

Aoibheann wrinkled her forehead and groaned. "Really Lata, giggling? Who are you trying to impress and no, you can't have the dragon until she is strong enough to know how to at least protect herself. Besides, you like a fight, right now she's not worth the effort. Let me have some time with her then you can play with her, but not yet."

"Lata, leave the girl alone. You could ask me about my love life if you wish."

Katy smirked. "What love life? You're in a drought, remember?"

"Katy my darling, shut up."

I bit my lip nervously. They were talking about me as if I wasn't even there. It was quite awkward.

Lata could 'play' with me later? I did not like the sound of that one bit. Suddenly I wished I wasn't a dragon.

Lata puts her palm to her chin, resting her elbow on the table. "I don't want to have anything hon, I was just curious about the girl. Those eyes are quite amazing aren't they. I'd apologize if I thought I was being that forceful Aoibheann."

The air elemental looks over at the Earth and then over to Katy. "In that case, I don't think I'd be any good for you James. I wouldn't want you ending up windswept during this drought of yours. Maybe there are some ways we can get you irrigated."

Lata laughs, leaning back on the legs of her chair. This 'meeting' of theirs. It truly was delightful. Everyone always had little plans they came up with. Never once asking the opinions of others.

"Well Aoibbie, I can't have you scaring the Dragon this young" Lata leans in to Crystal "Aoibheann has an issue with her temper" and sits back upright. "I insist that I get to watch and intervene during this training. I won't get in the way at all. You owe me anyways"

I giggled when Lata told me about Aoibheann's temper, but only softly, so only Lata here. I squirmed in my seat. Lata was making this lunch sound as if I were about to try things that were life risking or something. I sighed. What situation had I got myself stuck in? A half child/ half woman was after me, I was having dinner with people from proper ancestrial families in a royal room, and I was a dragon.

Aoibehaenn laughed. "You drive me crazy Lata but you're not boring, definitely not boring. I guess we're friends this week then. Do you know if the Fae have been interfering around here?"

James leaned across the table. "Lata, Lata, trust me when I say that I am always well irrigated." He winked at her and saw the distress on the poor dragon's face. "Please forgive our rudeness my lady, we have known each other a long time and we often make sport that can be often seen as something else and we mean you no harm or disrespect. Like the Wind, Lata can be flighty- though this is in no way a bad thing per se, it's just her character. Each one of us has our character based upon the Element that resounds most naturally with us. For example, I am Earth and I have a tendency to do things slowly, carefully, cautiously but, sometimes, like the Earth herself, I've too much pressure and I explode. Katy here is much like water in that she is fluid and easy to get along with. It is very hard to see just how much she has changed you until you look back and see who you are now compared with who you were. With some water elementals, this is a good change as it allows for growth, with others, the change is not so good and destroys. All of us are like that, we can either be used for good or for destruction."

"And Lata is right, I do have a temper, but then, I'm Fire and well, my temperament fluctuates." She cut into a piece of chicken and ate it. "I love this stuff."

"Fae? I don't know, I haven't seen any knife ears around in quite some time. That last one though. Urgh. I don't think I'll ever stop hearing that-"

Lata takes a quick glance at the children around.

"That whiny voice. So high pitched!" Lata stands and spins the chair around, sitting in it properly. James was a nice fellow. But what she was looking for wasn't a nice fellow. Nothing irked her more than deliberation and James was nothing but that. "Well then James, maybe I'd have to investigate this myself. You have been around Katy for some time now, maybe we can get you from turning into mud."

A momentarily angry look crosses Lata's otherwise happy face. Katy had always been a thorn in her side, little snippy comments here and there. It was enough to drive one insane.

"Now Aoibheann, you know you need me. And not just to warn you on the perils of eating a boring /flightless/ bird, but to help you." By this point, Lata had very nearly climbed onto Aoibheann's seat. An arm hooking around her. "I will always be your friend"

Aoibheann looked up at the girl who was practically sitting in her lap. "And what do your elf ears hear? How do we need you, and for what do we ned you exactly?"

"No chance of me getting waterlogged Lata, but I thank you for your concern." He grinned then, quickly and unexpectedly. "Of course, if I hang around you I might dry out completely, I mean, you are a bit of a blowhard." His green eyes were lit with merriment as he deliberately ate some of his salad.

I nodded at James' explanation meekly, then giggled. "Don"t worry, I understand." I sighed, cutting into the chicken. I smelled in its fresh aroma. I gulped it down and smiled. Aoibheann was right, it was good. Or maybe I was just hungry? I shrugged, to myself, and had another bite. "Soo." I started, trying to make some conversation. "When will we start with the 'training'." I made quotation marks with my hands when I said training.

"You need to breathe don't you. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean you don't need it. I serve all sorts of vital purposes. I make things work hon" With each word, Lata brought her face closer and closer to Aoibheann. As her statement ended, Lata shot back away from her.

"And you, my dear James, are far too susceptible too the efforts of others. Even cave men had Earthworks. Try being a little less solid sometime and call me"

Lata takes a good chunk of chicken from Aoibheann's plate, nibbling on the edges. "So that's what everything is supposed to taste like?" Making a face, she returns it back to the plate.

"As for training? I guess Aoibbe wanted to do that? I expect she wanted to set her own terms on that one"

Name: Alistair Moncrief

Age: 27

Appearance:

History: Born and raised in Scotland to a family with no known history of Elementalists, Alistair came into his powers young and naturally, mastering the subtle powers easily and already testing the greater powers when he had come to Slatnemele. While his years in the school granted him greater mastery of his powers, his education lit a flame in him for taxonomy, genealogy, lineage and history. He graduated with honours from the school and served for a time as an apprentice in the College of Arms in London. His interest in the genealogical records stems from his other interest. The so called 'Dragons of Wisdom', those children born with the power to master the elements combined. There was a poor historical record taken of these individuals, no genealogies or lineages and, as a result, little was known about from whence their powers stemmed. With news that one such Dragon had arrived at his alma mater, Alistair decided to return, both to work in the school's library and to study the origins of this Dragon, to construct a theory of origins.

Alistair climbed out of his car, a deep green Austen-Healey 100/6, once he'd parked it in the teachers' parking area in the space reserved for him. He was glad that the school had agreed to ship the larger of his personal possessions, as the boxes of his research would never have fitted into his little vintage car. He pulled out his suitcase and laptop bag from the boot and gently closed the boot door, hanging the laptop by its strap from his shoulder. As he walked to the main building, he fished out a key on a piece of string with a tag at the other end. The key to his chambers. He knew, from his studies of the school's plans, that the rooms were across two floors, a study and lounge on the lower floor and a bedroom and bathroom on the upper. It was about as luxurious as anywhere he'd ever lived. The staff entrance opened and Alistair smiled as he recognised the man who stood within.

"Mister Henderson! It's been ages!", Alistair called out, waving with his free hand, "I'm sorry I'm so late, there was horrible traffic on the motorway."

"Alistair, you're not a student any more, you only need call me Mister Henderson around students. My name is Robert. And don't worry about being late, it's not like the catalogue is going anywhere. I hope your journey here was uneventful apart from the congestion."

Alistair nodded and smiled, "Yes, it was fine. And thank you... Robert."

The headmaster of the school lead Alistair through to his quarters, pointing out the important rooms within the faculty's part of the building. It was strange, seeing the familiar building and familiar halls, but from a different standpoint, that of a member of the staff. He remembered his years in the school, the time when he had come into the fullness of his powers and the realisation of his life's ambition, to trace the lines of the Dragons and research whether there were any commonalities that linked these rare individuals. The thought that he was now within a few hundred yards of one of these legendary people was exciting and he felt an eagerness to get started as soon as he possibly could. The tour ended and Robert left Alistair at the door to his apartments, informing him that since he was late for lunch, he could go to the kitchens and beg a light meal from the cooks. After that, the library and its disordered catalogues awaited.

Alistair entered his lounge. Ten boxes sat within, eight held his gathered research, journals, books, scrolls and other ancient documents while the remaining two held the rest of his clothes and what few other personal effects he needed. In moments of reflection, Alistair would laugh at how little he owned in relation to how much he needed for his studies. He went through to the study and gently placed his laptop bag on the old oak desk that dominated the room. He could feel the ancient life of the tree that had been shaped into the desk. It had been about four hundred years old at the time it was felled, tall, broad and hoary. But it had been ailing, few years remained to it. He ran a hand across the smooth polished surface. This was the better fate.

It was a matter of a few minutes to carry or drag the eight packing cases into the study and a short while more to carry the other boxes and suitcase upstairs to his bedroom. He unpacked his clothes, his toiletries and the few small items he kept with him. a place for everything and everything in it's place. The other boxes were already in order, each organised and cross-referenced so that he need not unpack them until he needed them. He decided that this would be enough for now and strolled over to the kitchen.

He passed through the dining room, noticing the children seated in groups around the room and approached the serving hatch.

"Hello, I'm Mister Moncrief, the new librarian. I was wondering if I might be able to get some sandwiches and, perhaps a pot of tea or something. I've just arrived and I need to get over to the library so I can get to work."

The cook looked at him over the top of her horn-rimmed glasses and made a face of absolute distaste, "Mister Moncrief, we only have roast beef at the moment, so that's what you'll get in your sandwiches. And don't be expecting any salads or all that fancy stuff."

"I don't mind roast beef. It's been years since I've had a proper roast and I know the kitchens at Slatnemele do the best roasts.", he replied with a warm smile.

The cook cocked an eyebrow at the rare praise, "Alright, Mister Moncrief. If you want, I'll have the food and tea brought over to the library, just as soon as the rush has died down."

"Thank you, that's most kind of you.", Alistair bobbed his head politely and, turning smartly on his heel, breezed out of the dining room and went straight to the library.

The minute he entered, his memories exploded. The scent of the old books, the sight of the orderly lines of leather-bound spines, the overwhelming silence that seemed to drift like a mist through the shelves, the taste of the motes of dust in the air and the touch of the wood panelling that lined the walls. He saw himself, younger, wandering through these stacks of compressed knowledge, absorbing their words and diagrams with an insatiable hunger. That hunger was still unsatisfied, but yet he knew that here he could go back and re-read some of the books and perhaps find new insight into subjects he thought he'd mastered. Such was the way of learning. The person who claimed they knew everything, in truth knew nothing. He smiled, he could be happy here.
