    ...

    — their bond was their shield against the world, as vital to their survival as the air they breathed.

it didn't take long at all for them to grow attached. four beautiful, intelligent, lonely souls navigating university and finding love in the warmth of fraternity and the safety of loyalty.

    — they strayed too close to one another. close enough to burn, rage, smolder should they catch a stray spark, until nothing save their ashes remain.

together, they learned to become comfortable in their own skin, to embrace the tumultuous road of adulthood with open arms, to rely on those around them in times of need. and so they made a promise: no matter what, they would reunite underneath the flowering pear tree by the river trail south of campus. regardless of where they ended up after all that time, who they aligned themselves with, or how proudly they carried themselves, the four of them resolved to meet again at the beginning of their senior year and re-forge that sacred bond yet again if it had been severed. they swore to one another with all the passion and dedication they felt at the time. surely, they were soulmates, blood running hot in their veins.

    — and then they burned.

platonic love dared to turn romantic, and the festering nests of insecurities and jealousy reared their hideous mugs among the winter sleet. ear-splitting cries, bloodied lips, and indiscriminate vitriol became as natural as waking up to the morning haze, and the four soulmates had never felt so close, yet so distant. as fate would have it, one particularly heated argument on the journey back from an outing would become the last conversation they’d have with one another. while their eyes faced each other with the ferocity of their pain, hearts blazing and nostrils flaring, another driver rammed into the side of their drifting vehicle, putting all four of them in varying levels of injury from severe concussions to falling into a brief, horrifying coma.

    — who was to blame in that situation?

the mother of four who, too, had been distracted on the other side of the intersection? the brutal weather beating down on them like helpless prey on the jungle floor? some of them may have felt so deflected all blame entirely as though the crash had been unavoidable, but the bond between those four had already been tarnished to the point that none of it mattered in the end. they could not save each other, not anymore than they could save themselves. and yet, as they trudged on in solitude and experienced a loneliness far more potent than ever before, that promise still lingered in the back of their troubled minds. the flowering pear tree that once teetered on the verge of death stood several feet taller now, ethereal white petals raining down on the uncut grass below as carelessly as ever, and they yearned to return once again.

    — this is the tale of that reunion.

the reunion of soulmates, covered in white ash and flower petals alike, finding the courage to revitalize the dying branches of their souls stretched out in each other’s directions at last— for no less arduous a cause does fate dare to rewrite itself once more.

welcome to the official skeleton flower reboot :'D this is meant to be full of morally gray characters and tense situations, so feel free to suggest any and all ideas for the plot as your heart desires!!

ROLES

gamma: selfless, laidback, nurturing, but unable to stand up for himself. (male, reserved by me)
zeta: introverted, patient, dry-humored, but cannot express his feelings effectively. (male, open)
epsilon: lively, optimistic, reliable, but doesn't know when she's crossing boundaries. (female, open)
iota: ambitious, level-headed, thoughtful, but believes she can do no wrong. (female, reserved by uxie)

* note: these are not the names of the characters.

MISC.

role lore:
these were the general dynamics prior to the events that drove them apart. the root causes and mentalities behind each of the following issues and sentiments is up to the players.

  • iota and gamma were in an established relationship for a year prior to the crash. they had their own issues, right up to that moment.
  • zeta could never support them, as he'd fallen in love with iota when they'd first met without even knowing it. he had changed for the worse, according to epsilon.
  • epsilon hated seeing the bitterness of jealousy consume zeta. she wanted her best friend back.
  • gamma and epsilon had a falling out the night of the crash, which never got resolved afterwards.
  • while epsilon looked up to iota, who envied her vivaciousness in turn, one heinous misunderstanding tainted iota’s trust in her and gamma indefinitely.
  • zeta and gamma were first year roommates and the first to become friends among the four of them. they learned more about each other than they realized.

general guidelines:
• this is an 18+ rp based in modern times—please be realistic with your fcs.
• there is no limit for # of characters per role type, nor # of characters per player.
• the gm (me!) has the final say.
must have discord; all ooc + plotting will occur there.

post frequency:
i ask that everyone post relatively frequently (once or twice a week) to keep the ball rolling, but i'm definitely lenient on this with proper communication. along with this, since this is an extremely relationship-based roleplay, i ask that you write with plenty of detail in each post—no need for an essay, but enough to portray character depth and realistic thought processes.

player discourse:
no god-modding
/group plotting without discussing it in ooc with all relevant players. drama and romance is strongly encouraged in-character, but keep it classy ooc. resolve any conflicts privately and involve the gm if needed. i reserve the right to kick anyone that continuously proves to be an issue.

She firmly believes that no challenge is impossible. Even in the face of difficulties, Yuna’s optimism remains unaffected.

Reliability is one of Yuna’s virtues. Her friends know that they can always count on her to keep her promises.

backstory
Moon Yuna was born in Daegu, South Korea. Her mother was a nurse, that worked for the local hospital, while her father was a software development engineer.

Since she was a child, Yuna’s easy going personality was a magnet to those around her. Her warm smile and infectious laughter could even make the most boring days into fun adventures.

As a child, Yuna discovered her love for rhythmic gymnastics. From the moment she twirled and jump. Her dreams were supported by her parents despite the tight moments they had to face with money, but as a child her parents made sure to try their best to provide for Yuna as she gave her all in the sport.

During her teenage years, life took an unexpected turn. Her father was able to secure a job in Seoul. The family left behind the familiar streets of Daegu and moved to the bustling city of Seoul. The change was a bit of a hard time, but for Yuna, there wasn’t any challenge that she didn’t believe she could solve.

Yuna’s high school life was one that revolved around rhythmic gymnastics and keeping good grades. She managed to be a key part of her rhythmic gymnastics team back in high school and was able to attend competitions that she won, which helped her achieve a scholarship for university.

Once at university, she met the people; she believed would be her friends for the rest of her life. But she wasn’t expecting that a car accident would change everything the bond that Yuna thought was unbreakable shattered like a piece of glass.

And if the emotional damage wasn’t enough, the car accident led to a wrist injury; that, despite not having permanent damage, left an impact on Yuna, making her wary of pushing herself too hard. As she feared that once again she would end up injured and her sports career would be over and since that day Yuna hadn’t been able to perform how she used to be.

Despite the fact that Yuna shows herself to the world with the cheerful and warm smile that characterizes her, the reality is that the girl aches with loneliness due to losing the people that once brought happiness in her life and the courage she once had in herself.

there's so much i wish i could tell you, but the rain swallows each word and i am left gasping.

baek hyeon-ah strives for
nothing less than perfection
. it has become second nature to crave success in everything she does, if only because she knows she can do it. she has done it before, and she would— she will do it again. she chases the highest standard with unrivalled eagerness and ambition that threatens to leave everyone else in its wake;
independent to a fault
, and an attitude that demands too much of herself.

though a
kind
person at heart who, above all, loves helping others, hyeon-ah comes off far more intimidating than she intends.
introverted
by nature with a
straightforward
manner of speaking is a formidable wall to get by, but beneath her firm exterior is a warm-hearted girl who cares deeply for those around her.

and of course, she is
hard-headed
. hyeon-ah has always trusted herself the most— in her abilities, in her ideals, and in the soundness of her own conclusions. recent events have turned her even more
guarded
, paranoid of her susceptibility to false words and bitter betrayals; she
loves so deeply
, but the more you give, the more you have to lose.

likes

rainy days, dance, desserts, spicy food, soggy fries, sunrises & sunsets, dogs, film photography, watching plays, stargazing, flowers, strawberry-flavoured things, flowers, winter, shopping for others, journalling, cleaning

dislikes

tomatoes, hawaiian pizza, swimming, being in a car, the wilderness, sleeping in, strong perfumes, horror movies, introducing herself, doing her hair, vegetables, getting drunk, crude language, infidelity

fears

the crash deeply traumatised hyeon-ah; she has only recently overcome her fear of being in cars at all, but still cannot bring herself to take the front seat. nowadays, she finds herself more fearful of failure than ever, and honestly, she has always been somewhat afraid of birds.

ambitions

a year ago, it would have been to design a legendary skyscraper— or even, form a nice, happy family with someone she loves and design her dream home; she's not so sure what she wants out of life anymore.

you and me, since morning

baek hyeon-ah has never doubted who she was; what her future held for her, what kind of life she would end up living. why would she have? everything was perfect from the very start— she came from a wealthy background, with loving parents that doted and cooed at her young self. she was academically prodigious from the very beginning, and had all the freedom in the world to pursue whatever whim she wished.

yet, even at her young age, hyeon-ah was practical. mature beyond her years, her teachers would remark in their saccharine tones, she knows exactly what she wants. she would ignore the sort of cute-condescending way they said it— it was the way adults like to speak to children, after all— and instead focused on matching every bit of expectations they placed upon her. she was more than capable of doing it, even with the too-many commitments she juggled as she grew older. it was ballet, and then it was figure skating, and then it was picking up another language class, and then somehow, an extra-curricular course on industrial design; and she did it all without breaking a sweat.

time and time again, baek hyeon-ah proved she was perfect. that was just who she was.

admittedly, it was a bit lonely at the top. but she simply didn't have the time to form the close connections others did; even when she painstakingly pieced together a precious birthday card to be forgotten when her time of the year rolled around. it was difficult dwelling on whether you didn't smile enough, or if you had sounded sincere enough when you thanked them for the piece of bread, if it had conveyed how your heart had flipped in your chest because of how touched you'd been.

and baek hyeon-ah, in all of the decisiveness and assertiveness she was known for, decided it was simpler not to.

it became easier that way, and hyeon-ah was more than content when she graduated, valedictorian of her private high school, and only bought two bouquets of flowers for the two girls she dared to call friends. beautiful little bouquets, each flower carefully hand-picked from the store herself. it was more comfortable this way.

waiting for the rain to fall

obviously, it felt a bit too good to be true when she met them in university. hyeon-ah didn't believe in soulmates, but she'd have used it for them; they clicked so naturally, with a friendship that had blossomed as quickly and as beautifully as beot-kkeot in march. for one, short, blissful year, she thought she'd found the people she might spend the rest of her life with.

but you stack your cards too high, and they are doomed to fall.

it started innocuously, on a seemingly normal day when she'd braved the rain to come home to prepare a dessert early— it was her father's birthday that day, and he'd always loved her lemon tarts. the door to her parent's bedroom had been cracked open, just enough for the quiet sound of an argument to slip through as she headed for her room. accusations played in her parents' voices, until her father's voice toppled over the first of the carefully-constructed layers of her precious card house.

is she even my daughter? how can i even be sure?

she'd fled the house, mind whirling, straight into haru's arms. it was where she had hoped to stay, her only source of comfort as she allowed her grades to fall in favour of sorting out their familial issues; only for him to be the one to deliver the blow that sent her second layer tumbling down. the crash took down the third with ease, and hyeon-ah felt like she spent an eternity staring at the ruins of her life before she finally found it in her to move.

bit by bit, she stacks them back up. it's not perfect, but baek hyeon-ah might even dare to admit it never has been. no matter; she'll cover up the gaps with new cards, ones that have nothing to do with the old ones, and hold the ones that remain with a careful, wary hand.

best friend

kim ari

ari and hyeon-ah are old friends from high school, and applied to be roommates together for on-campus housing. ari has met with the rest of hyeon-ah's friends frequently but mostly keeps to her own set of friends within her major. the two are close, but are very clear that they are neither's closest friends. despite this, she's more or less caught up to the affairs of the group, thanks to a few late nights and the vulnerable state hyeon-ah found herself in some time after the crash. ari is a staunch supporter of doyoung as her roommate's new love interest, largely because she thinks he's cute.

about the crash

it's an event she'd rather not remember, and something she feels could have been easily avoided. it nearly cost them all their lives; it didn't make sense to her. she doesn't think she blames him, but what did he even have to be angry about?

academics

hyeon-ah is a fourth-year architecture student, with top grades up until the last year where she fell into the above average percentile. she is the student representative of her year, as well as a committee member of the university's ice skating club.
