Hey,
Anyone up to rping something in the Silmarillion universe, preferably around our favourite Finwean chaos grandchildren? I'm a major Tolkien nerd and recently got into the Silm fandom (after years of being obsessed with the subject matter). Idk how well a Silmarillion rp is going to work but I have a lot of non-elaborate ideas and would be happy to figure something out together. I want to leave my suggestions relatively open because I'm more interested in seeing if anyone would be interested at all, but since it's always nice to know at least a bit of a potential rp partner, here is an incomplete list of what I am (not) comfortable writing:
- In Universe: there are lots of plots and events to highlight with an rp, imo, I'd be happy with almost anything!
- Writing multiple interwoven storylines at once also makes sense for me, if it isn't too much for the beginning. That way we could explore writing different characters
- We could throw in some alternate routes/slight canon divergence, if it makes sense, I'm always up for that!
- Following the last point, I am very okay with non-canon ships! Russingon is an (almost canon at this point tbh) classic, but hey, if you have any guilty pleasure ships, just convince me! If we go the path of multiple characters though, I'd like a good mixture of romance and platonic relationships, especially because imo there is a lot of interesting stuff to write about regarding Feanorian sibling dynamics!
- My general vibe for an In Universe rp would be more serious and with a darker tone, obviously. Not much chance for fluff with that subject matter. I do love some calmer phases in between, not everything has to be gruesome and terrible all the time (because that does tend to get boring quickly), but overall, well, I think there is much room for dark themes and messed-up character/relationship studies.
- Alternate Universe: If all of that sounded like I am opposed to modern aus (or maybe something even more crazy, surprise me if you have any ideas!), I am absolutely not! I love me my modern/college aus, friendship and brother shenanigans, life being thrown at characters with all it's ups and downs, and some background family drama because Feanor is... well, he is Feanor. And his sons usually aren't much better at keeping things chill.
- Even here, I'd love to play around with multiple ships and characters, if possible (or if not, there's gotta be at least some background family chaos)
- In general, the tone would be a lot lighter than any in-universe rp, but I am up for variation. Just like only drama, only fluff tends to get boring and I looove the kind of messed-up realistic stories of live being a bitch, so we could easily incorporate that, too. It's always great to write about characters working out their issues, whatever they may be, together. It would maybe even be possible to "translate" some original-silmarillion plot events into a modern au. I don't want to get into detail for length sake, but we'll be able to work something out, for sure!
- For both (all) options, it would be important to me, that we'll find a way of portraying no character as completely black or white. Ofc background characters aren't that important to portray as multi-layered as they probably are and that the main focus of rps are complex characters and their development is also clear. So maybe making this point is kind of unnecessary, I just wanted to stress that I am absolutely no fan of, say, "Feanor is a terrible father and person, period." or "Feanor's sons are precious babys and only the oath made them do terrible things" kind of plots. It's usually something in between.
- A few words about style/structure/general organisation:
- I am pretty chill about the length and frequency of posts. As long as it fits and is kind of equal between the two of us, I don't mind shorter or longer posts or if you need a while to answer. RL has priority and realistically spoken I don't think I can post more often than, say, 1-2 times a week. If if takes much longer than that, I'd love a little heads-up, just to know that you haven't forgotten or aren't interested in the rp anymore (which is totally fine btw, we should def figure out how we "fit" as writing partners before expecting too much!)
- I'd also like to be in some kind of contact outside of the rp. We don't have to become best friends, but rping with a total stranger would be weird and imo it's important to check in with each other, if the direction the rp is taking is still okay for both of us, and if there are any limits/wishes/requests (also I love nerding out about fandom stuff outside of the rp, sharing art and theories and whatever, if you're up to it. But I can hold back with that, too)
- I think it became clear with the whole "length of the posts" thing, but I would want to write text style only. Even though, in case of modern aus, I love some chat-rps (two characters writing per chat/sms with each other, if possible, in real-time though, otherwise it just takes veeery long for anything to happen), so if you're up to it, we could throw something of that in, too. Mixing up text (for rl meet-ups) and chat (if the characters are away from each other) is usually a cool concept! In case of a canon plot, we could also, like, write letters? Maybe? Idk, I'd have to try that out, but it could be fun!
- As you may have guessed, English is not my native language, and there will be some mistakes, even though I always try my best! I hope my style is readable enough, but just a heads-up if you can't live with some grammar/vocabulary mistakes at all. The other way around, I am pretty chill with some mistakes or non-perfect English, as well! As long as there is some amount of style and not, like, 100 typos per sentence, I really don't mind if you occasionally struggle with English as well! And if you spot any grave mistakes in my writing, feel free to correct me!
(And if by any chance you speak German, then, hey, maybe not as much as a learning experience for me, but I'd still be happy to rp in my mothertongue!)
