[PHYSICAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT]

Good personality traits: Joel is well-mannered, polite, courteous and well-disciplined to those he knows well. As a Captain of his team, he went above and beyond to ensure the safety of his teammates, sometimes over the success of the mission...

Bad personality traits: When it came to outsiders, Joel doesn't trust anyone, and for good reason. Largely out for himself nowadays, Joel prefers to work alone. Yet, if finding himself in a group, he'll find himself most often than not agreeing to help out of necessity- if the group proves themselves worthy of not getting a bullet to the head, that is.

Mood character is most often in: Joel is a bitter, resentful man who is consistently haunted by his past demons, yet fights through them to see the most out of every situation. When engaged in socialization, Joel is reserved yet communicable to those he encounters- often quick to become irritated at questions regarding his past, or simply not worth his time answering. Break through the hard exterior, and beneath is a broken man yearning for a life once lived.

Sense of humor: Joel's humor is dry and often dark to those who don't quite know him, largely coming off as sarcastic. However, there's a more lighthearted side to the soldier that only few have gotten to see.

Character’s greatest joy in life: Joel's joy lies within his own survival, and ensuring the survival of others he can trust, if he can trust them. As a man nearly losing everything he once held dear, Joel has a strong hope for a brighter future.

Character’s greatest fear: Joel fears loss, and failure. While not fearful of his own mortality, Joel's outlook on the survival of others depends on who he encounters first.

Priorities: For now, his mission is survival. Largely nomadic, Joel's ultimate goal is to attempt to return to a normal live. Build a community, and find some ray of normalcy in a shattered world.

If granted one wish, it would be: To right his wrongs and atone for his sins.

Greatest strength: Joel's greatest strength is, to any end, himself. Having to stay strong under the worst possible circumstances would cause anyone to break, but he's held his ground so far.

Greatest vulnerability or weakness: Joel's greatest vulnerability is allowing himself to trust others.

Hobbies: During his time prior to the Excursion Zone Deployment, Joel was quite a skilled guitarist and avid singer.

Smokes: No smoking on duty.

Drinks: No drinking on duty. Or at least, not again after what happened last time...

Other drugs: N/A

Extremely skilled at: Weapons operation, CQC, First Aid, Mechanical Repair

Extremely unskilled at: Computer hacking, Crafting, Science

Notable Trauma(s): During Operation Urban Thunder, Joel's squad was inexplicably severed from the link to Command when entering a TerraGroup Laboratory. Unbeknownst to his team, another rogue USEC element was in the area and eventually found his position. Locked in a firefight lasting nearly four hours between two corridors and a command room, the skirmish was drawn to a close when he and his team managed to outmaneuver and eliminate the enemy squad. Or so he thought. Pushing further down the hallway with his team taking point against his directive, the men made their way down the narrow chokepoint just as the last surviving hostile threw an F1 grenade down the hallway. Before Joel could react, all four of his men were enveloped by the sudden explosion; killed almost instantly as the shrapnel tore through their bodies. Collecting their tags and moving to extract from the building, Joel's link with Command had failed to come back online. He was abandoned, most likely marked for treason, and hunted. Joel spent another grueling month in Tarkov; fighting to escape the city after saving up enough Rubles to buy a car; selling off his weapons and gear other than his fatigues and backpack.

Finally returning to the United States two months later after numerous challenges with the embassy and formal termination with UNISEC and TerraGroup LLC under the pretence that he was responsible for the death of his squad, another massive blow was dealt to the soldier as he discovered upon finally returning to his home that his wife of three years had left him and took his kids with her. Unable to contact them and on the verge of suicide, Joel received an anonymous referral to visit a psychologist. Figuring to give it one last try before spiraling into the depths, Joel packed up his belongings, got a fresh change of clothes, and headed out to the listed address.

Traits
Optimist or pessimist? Joel is mindful of negative, cynical thinking. While not everything is sunshine and rainbows, he prefers to make the most of every situation beneficial to himself or others.

Introvert or extrovert? Joel is largely withdrawn and won't open up unless it is urgent to communicate or he is otherwise directly confronted.

Daredevil or cautious? Joel has seen too many casualties due to impulse, and prefers to approach situations with a degree of forethought.

Logical or emotional? For the most part, Joel is very analytical, rational and logical. However, there are a few specific instances where emotion can override even the strongest soldier.

Disorderly and messy or methodical and neat? Joel is, from experience and consistent discipline, very methodical and neat.

Prefers working or relaxing? Joel never finds time to rest. As long as there's a guaranteed threat to his survival, he'll stop at nothing to ensure it is resolved.

Confident or unsure of himself/herself? Joel is highly confident of himself, but never cocky.

Animal lover? Having never bothered interacting with animals outside of military orders, Joel only seems to have a toloerance for them- of course, that can be changed.

-Personality-
Personality: Elisha often has the same tendencies as a puppy: playful, innocent, and full of energy. While many do enjoy his personality he does have a tendency to be annoying and needy for attention. The underlying cause for the needy behavior is that he fears abandonment and being isolated. While many can be annoyed by his overactive personality, most ignore it due to his friendliness and loyalty. At times he can be a bit too honest and doesn't have much tact, but this has more to do with Israeli culture than his own personal traits.
Positive traits:
  • Friendly
  • Playful
  • Loyal
  • Optimistic
Negative traits:
  • Oblivious
  • Stubborn
  • Needy
  • Boorish
Talents:
  • Military training provided by the IDF
  • Agile (did gymnastics as a child and teenager)
  • Historical research (current student at the University of Maine)

Ailments: None currently (excluding the symptoms of his trauma).
Trauma: C-PTSD and autophobia (fears of abandonment) - Explained in Backstory.

-History-
Relationships:
  • Father- Avraham Zohar (Alive): Prior to his daughter’s death, Avraham and Elisha got along alright. While they were never very close with one another, they got along fine. However after Idit’s death, Avraham blames Elisha for her death and has cut contact with him altogether.
  • Mother- Edith Zohar (Alive): Edith and her son have a very good relationship with one another. She is the stereotypical Jewish-American mother who likes to neurotically obsess over and coddle her son.
  • Half-Sister- Idit Zohar (deceased): Prior to her death, Elisha and Idit had a very close sibling bond. While they would both tease each other and have a few sibling squabbles, both were very protective of one another.

Work History:
  • 18-21: Mandatory military service
  • 21-25: Full-time undergrad university student (history)
  • 26-27: Full-time research student (historical research)
Backstory:
Elisha was born in Jerusalem, Israel to Edith Zohar (an American Jew) and Avraham Zohar (an Israeli Jew). Growing up, Elisha had a normal childhood in an upper-middle class household. As his mother’s only biological child, Elisha was very spoiled by his mom (much to the chagrin of his father). Prior to Elisha’s birth, Avraham had a daughter named Idit (who was two years older than Elisha). While the attention given to Elisha didn’t go unnoticed by Idit, she did not hold it against him and instead became a loving/doting older sister. Due to this, they were nearly inseparable from one another when they were young.

As the siblings got older their relationship did slightly change to a more teasing and joking relationship, however they were still just as close. Whenever Idit would pick up a new hobby, Elisha was sure to follow (whether that was skateboarding, surfing, hiking, or gymnastics). While neither of them had the correct coordination to do surfing or skateboarding properly, they both excelled at gymnastics through their teenage years.

When it came time for Idit to her mandatory military service, Elisha felt a little jealous that he could not participate with her at the same time. When it became time for Elisha to serve, he made sure that he would be in the same unit as his sister. The unit worked as excavation guards for archaeological sites in Judea and Samaria / the West Bank. The start of his mandatory service went well and he was quickly placed in the same unit as Idit. When Elisha turned nineteen, his entire world turned upside down. One night when Elisha and Idit were on guard duty at one of the excavation sites, a group of looters attempted to steal objects from the site. When they were discovered by Idit’s and Elisha’s unit, one of the looters resulted to violence and shot Idit with an illegal handgun. While a few in his unit (including himself) received a few wounds, Elisha was able to incapacitate the looter. Idit had been the only one with a serious wound. She eventually died from her wounds in her brother’s arms.

While in the hospital recovering, Elisha’s father only paid him one visit and that was to tell him that he blamed Elisha for Idit’s death and no longer viewed Elisha as his son. This would result in Avraham cutting all contact with Elisha. This would leave a lasting impact on Elisha that still continues to control him to this day.

After his recovery, Elisha would eventually finish his service in the military at a different (and more safe) station within the next two years. When he had finished, he decided to move to his mother’s home state (Maine) and start his undergrad at the University of Maine. Due to his high standing within the university, he continued his education as a research student for the university’s History Department.

Meanwhile his emotional wellbeing has become somewhat erratic. While he had initially been psychologically evaluated after his sister’s death, he had managed to squeak by without too much probing. However when he reached the United States it seemed like it triggered something in his mind. It seemed like anything or everything made him easily irritable and had a hard time coping with frustration. He would also have major anxiety attacks and flashbacks that would render him useless. He would also develop insomnia and have vivid nightmares that would often prevent him from trying to go back to sleep.

For most of his undergrad he would ignore it and throw himself into his studies. He would always socialize with his classmates and professors, but would seem to keep his distance from forming lasting relationships. When Edith came to visit her son in America, she was surprised by how quiet and meek his life was: no friends and studying all hours. With much probing, Elisha was convinced by his mother to seek help. This would eventually lead him to Dr. Elizabeth Spiers’s door. With her help, he has managed to come outside of his shell. However this has brought about new issues regarding his autophobia (fear of abandonment), which in turn has made him a lot more needy.

Name: Twila Folley
Nickname(s): Twi (Pronounced TWHY)
Age: 34
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Race/Ethnicity: Indigenous American, Passamaquoddy tribe.

-Appearance-
Face Claim: 820b9a96fa417b5d7fb13ca8c4209cee.jpg
Hair: Jet black, minimal scattered greys. Short and choppy, falls above shoulders and frames her face.
Eyes: Dark brown.
Skin: Medium, olive tone. Smooth complexion, age lines beginning to appear around eyes and mouth.
Weight: 132 lbs / 60 kg
Height: 5' 9"
Distinguishing Features: Twila has many scars. On her inner arms and legs, one will find scarring from abscesses due to drug use. When she was 19, she scraped the letter "A" into her left upper arm- it has healed over the years but is still visible. She has a few dotted scars from cigarette burns on her hands and thighs, as well as a three long scars on her back from a belt. She has a poorly done bundle of wildflowers tattoo on her right forearm in faded black ink.
Fashion Aesthetic: Twila dresses fairly masculine and a little shabby, she covers herself up and likes to layer. Never one for skirts or shorts, she wears dark colored straight cut jeans and likes to pair racer back tank tops with old, loose fitting t-shirts. She always wears a jacket and prefers worn down leather or canvas, a very relaxed fit and she prefers not to zip up. Footwear is always worn in comfortable combat type leather boots or lace up sneakers. She has multiple rings on her fingers, some clearly for men and others more feminine. She wears an obsidian arrowhead pendant on a long leather cord around her neck, it sits just below her sternum.
il_794xN.2402937320_trq4.jpg

-Personality-

Personality: Jaded, scorned and usually on the defensive, Twila comes off as brash and even callous to many. She is a frank person and says what is on her mind, she doesn't sugarcoat things and is very up front. Twila has learned to build walls and not trust strangers, much less anyone else. She has a particular disregard for authority figures, especially ones in uniform. Through therapy, she is working on becoming more open and friendly, though it is a hard path. She attempts to be friendly through humor, though it is dry and sarcastic and can lean to the darker side of things. In the past she relied on substance abuse to release her inhibitions and allow her to be more palatable- now that she doesn't, it is clear that she struggles with low self esteem if anyone digs deep enough. Twila is brave and has a daredevil type attitude, but she can go too far and cause herself harm without properly analyzing a situation. In friendship she is thoughtful and giving, while still having strict boundaries. Once one becomes her friend, she is very steadfast and loyal. In love she is a wild flame at one moment, and an icy breeze the next- she has been counselled to avoid romantic relationships in the near future, she tends to become infatuated. To the people closest to her, it is clear that Twila doesn't want for anything grand, she yearns to feel stable and safe, and while hopeless she may be she dreams of a day when she might be able to help vulnerable children as she once was.

Positive traits:

- Maternal: Despite her iciness, Twila has a natural nurturing spirit- she likes to take care of people and will help if she sees someone suffering. She is particularly protective of young people.

- Generous: If she has something that can be shared, she will gladly give it. She is self preserving, but not selfish towards others.

- Courageous: These streets teach many lessons- there is not much that terrifies her outside her own head any longer.

- Trying Her Best: Twila knows she has many flaws and has messed up many times in the past- she is truly doing her best to become better and take other peoples advice.

Negative traits:

- Bad Temper: Twila can be easy to anger, and that anger can be explosive and scary. It is something she working on through therapy.

- Addictive Personality: Drugs, liquor, gambling, sex- a good thing can become dangerous for Twila, she is easy to over indulge.

- A Closed Heart: An ice that can sting, Twila is difficult to get close to and can lash out when people try.

- Unrefined: School was never really a thing for Twila- her reading and writing is poor and she is very sensitive about it.

Talents:

- Street Smart: Twila is very dexterous, she can pick basic locks and nab something she wants without most people noticing. She is agile, good at climbing over fences, hiding and running away if caught.

- Scrappy: Not trained at any rate- but Twila can hold her own in a fight and isn't afraid to get dirty.

- Wilderness: One thing she did learn and remembers is how to survive in the wild, how to make a fire, forage for food, what plants are poisonous etc.

Ailments: None, aside from trauma related symptoms.

Trauma: Diagnosed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Disassociation from childhood abuse and neglect, outlined in Backstory.

-History-

Relationships:

Family: Twila knows that her oldest sister is deceased. As for her other five siblings and parents, when she was removed from the home she lost contact and has never sought them out. The thought is petrifying to her.

Rita: Rita was Twila's cellmate at Maine Correctional Women's Center during her 4 year stay. The two became very close while Twila was there, and she still writes to Rita weekly. Rita will be in jail for another two years, and the pair has plans to move in together when she is free.

Other: Twila has very few friendly relationships for obvious reasons. She has friends at the store she works at, but none she would spend time with outside of work. The people she is closest to at the moment are a handful of people attending her AA meetings, but she has been advised to keep strong boundaries. Other than this, her only notable relationships are with her therapists, the leader of her AA group and women's group, and Dr. Spiers.

Work History: Currently, Twila is employed at Value Mart as a stock associate, it is the longest job she has kept at one year and two months. Prior to this, she was in jail- but before that, she did odd jobs that never lasted very long. She was a cashier at a pet store for three months before being fired for repeated lateness. Prior to this, she worked at a gas station for four months before abandoning the job. Before that, she worked at a warehouse for four months. Never anything requiring much skill and usually in retail, service, or manual labor, her downfall usually laid in unreliability.

Backstory: Have you ever heard that abuse in the family is a cycle? Well, that's true. It's just a statement though, it doesn't do anything to try and solve the issue, nor does it do much to make people stop and ask how the cycle started. Twila has heard this phrase countless times, that she should just break the cycle, if she would only break the cycle, it would be over. Trauma doesn't work that way. It's difficult to look at Twila's backstory without trying to understand what it is to be indigenous American, and what the history of her people is as well as the history of colonization. Her father, Tomah, had experienced the horrors of Indian Boarding Schools, the endless abuse that fractured him as a person, digging deep and horrendous roots that touched everything he tried to build afterwards. Kill the Indian and save the man. Twila's mother, Rose, was the result of a child torn from her family by the Indian Adoption Act, stolen away and placed with a Caucasian family to destroy what little was left of her culture and identity. Kill the Indian and save the child. They never had a chance.

Tomah's family could barely handle him when he came home from the boarding school, he was violent with constant mood swings and an alcohol addiction. Rose had only known her mother, but by the time she was out on her own after being adopted, her mother was missing- another missing Indigenous woman of many. Seeking to reconnect with her roots, she met Tomah while visiting the reservation and fell for his good looks and bad boy demeanor despite him being much older. Their union took them off reservation to start fresh, and together these two broken people built a broken life together. And that, dear reader, is how this particular cycle of abuse began. Twila was born the youngest of 7, a mistake of a child that had surprised all by even surviving- Tomah had kicked Rose down a flight of stairs when he realized she was pregnant again. By then her parents were much older than most, a toxic pair that argued constantly and reared their children with as much cruelty as they had experienced in their younger years. Twila grew up in a unkempt house with not near enough food, money, attention, and very little kindness otherwise.

What pleasantry there was came from her siblings, notably her three older sisters that gave her handmade toys, food, and mended her handed down clothing and shoes as she grew. Her happiest memories were family drives out to visit the reservation, to see Tomah's parents. They would give the girls candy and let them explore, visit Lewy Lake to fish and swim in the warmer months and drives to little stores to buy trinkets and play with other children. Twila was always a very boyish little girl, something that she was often teased for. Teasing was not all though, while all of her siblings received abuse in some form or another Twila always got it the worst, and they all knew it. She was the mistake, the most hated extra mouth to feed, the boyish brutish and unwanted one. These dark days were a prison for the young girl, and are horrible, painful times that are very difficult for her to speak of. Finally, when she was 13, some sort of relief came, albeit uneasily. Twila's father had gone a little too far, he threw a bottle at her head and gave her a concussion. While she was bleeding on the floor, finally, her oldest sister called the police. Twila was removed from the home, and in her blurred memory of the time, she bounced around from foster home to foster home, too old and troubled to be adopted. She doesn't remember much of that incident.

"Nobody would take you anyways, gutter rat."

It was the last thing her father had said to her. She never saw him again. She never saw anyone again, they all just floated away, just like her, into obscurity and irrelevance. Twila became another face lost in the foster care system, moving to a new home every few months all over Maine. In her free time, she took to the streets in her youth, getting into trouble and committing petty crimes like shoplifting, vandalism and trespassing. She was in and out of juvenile detention, and then when she was older, jail. Arguably though, these were her happiest days when she made friends, partied and finally felt free and unburdened. She worked odd jobs and spent her money on liquor and good times. However, good times became too good, she began getting into heavy drugs and what started as a occasional high became an addiction. Twila found love, then lost it, then found it again in someone new every few months. Different houses, different bars, different men. All salves for the bleeding wound that was her heart, all melted away like snow falling on a hot coal. Jail again, but this time more serious. One of her lovers had hit her, and she didn't just hit back, she stabbed him with a knife. 4 years in jail, a felony.

It was there, in those endless repetitive days that she looked in the mirror at her aging face, strands of grey beginning to grow around the crown of her head. In that place where hope dies and you have nothing left to do but look inside yourself at the animal hiding, mask peeled away, she learned that her oldest sister who had saved her life was dead. It was a letter with the obituary, clipped from a newspaper and neatly folded with a dried wildflower inside. In all those years, counselling was offered, AA meetings booked, she never committed. This time though, she promised herself to try. When she got out, she accepted help and get a job at the local Value Mart, began renting and apartment, and started attending AA meetings. It would be a lie to say that it was easy- she struggled to do the simplest of things, following a schedule, making meals for herself, trying to socialize with coworkers.

It was also embarrassing, she had relapsed many times before and came back to the same concerned faces of counselors and recovering drug addicts like herself she had seen years ago and left behind. In all this time though, Twila had never found a therapist that worked for her- all had been men, for one, whom she distrusted from the outset and resulted in explosive episodes. Recently, she started attending therapy sessions at a local women's shelter, and it was there that she was told of Dr. Elizabeth Spiers. A therapist that just wanted to help, no matter the case? She couldn't believe it, and she didn't- but the group leader took her hand and helped her reach out. It was an uncomfortable and difficult first few sessions undoubtedly, but finally Twila had found someone she trusted. When the offer to visit Silent Hill arose, she was hesitant at first but accepted. Silent Hill... it looked beautiful. The trees reminded her of her grandparents house, the water looked like Lake Lewy, the sounds of giggling little girls echoing in her mind. Maybe she could find peace there.
