introduction
listen up:
Hello everyone! This thread is dedicated to characters for the roleplay: ://SIGNAL_LOST. Please read through the dedicated tabs below before posting a character! Feel free to ask questions regarding characters, plot or really anything here.

important info:
If you feel capable of handling more than one character you are free to do so. Let us just say there is a possibility of making more in the future.
Codes are aesthetic and usually well-organised but are not needed (if you're looking for codes check out the BBCode Center).
This is based on an application basis, not first-come-first-served. This means multiple people can apply for the same role (note: most roles can be doubled up if I like both applications, but I would prefer variety).
Keep your characters realistic, interesting and diverse (e.g., different backgrounds, ethnicities, etc) as I will be choosing the most intriguing characters that match the story/setting!

characters
application:
Here is everything I would like to see within your character sheets, yet feel free to add any others tidbits which add life to your character. There is no need to format it as below, just make sure all this information is somewhere within your character sheet!
Remember your character was hired by MHC (check next tab/glossary for more info) solely for this expedition, which means they have no previous ties to the corp! Furthermore, the characters were not an already assembled crew, they were individually assigned by MHC to make up a new crew on the SS-Azael.

glossary:
melton-hisano corp (mhc)
The MHC is a multinational (American and Japanese) conglomerate, consisting of two merged corporations: Melton Limited Corp and the Hisano Corporation. A household name since 2090, the corporation is the leading technology suppliers for both commercial and industrial clients. Well-known for its manufacturing of synthetics and spaceships to everyday household appliances, MHC is a widely successful and powerful corporation. In the past ten years, MHC has been branching out to more non-manufacturing interests with mining and exploration of extraterrestrial technology to stay ahead of the competition.
Recently, the corporation is under fire for one of its flagship vessels randomly combusting and killing those on board which has made national headlines. Another scandal or incident could lead to major financial repercussions.
mhs-desdemona
The MHS-Desdemona was built and owned by the MHC with its sole purpose to mine and explore for extraterrestrial technology on surrounding planets and moons. A colonial expedition, the corporation hired an extensive team of varying professions along with their families (considering the long expedition). Its bolstering crew of 635 inhabitants has been undergoing their expeditions for the past eight years. Until recently, they were investigating a strange electromagnetic signal from a distant moon. A year later, they went completely silent after the distress call.
ss-azael
The SS-Azael is a small spaceship which was built by the MHS, who have hired a small crew of outsiders to investigate the distress call on MHS-Desdemona. They are willing to pay the crew a large sum for investigating the distress call and discovering why the entire crew of the MHS-Desdemona have gone radio silent. The reason for hiring an outside-crew is to avoid any connections to the corporation in case of a scandal which could cripple the company.
second earth
Previously known as Kepler-62f, this planet was considered the best candidate for terraforming. While it is now habitable, living on Second Earth is exclusive for those who are influential or wealthy; causing an uproar from humanitarian organisations who believe it should be readily available for everyone. Regardless, only the elite and the workers who sustain the planet (plus their families) inhabit Second Earth.
earth
Earth is still suffering from overpopulation with the climate only getting warmer with the coming years. Rainfall and snow are incredibly rare occurrences now, with mostly the lower socio-economic, the elderly and people who despise space inhabiting Earth still. Most major cities still remain order and their former glory, yet more desolate places are left ungoverned and are mainly avoided by the general public.
space stations
To immediately combat overpopulation, influential countries created their own space stations to house their citizens. These countries include the United States, China, Canada, Japan, India, United Kingdom, Russia, Brazil, France, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico and South Korea. These space stations are governed by their respective countries, yet all (and space itself) are under the universal laws of the "Space Nation Federation" which is made up of a representative from each of the thirteen nations inhabiting space.
Most of the space stations mirror major cities — providing education, jobs, entertainment and housing. It is mainly made up of the middle class and those whose occupations are pertinent to maintaining the space stations.
Note: individuals can inhabit their own spaceships (if they can afford it or are part of a team/expedition).

the crew
roles:
the captain [npc]
The SS-Azael needs a captain for its newly-acquainted crew. They are in charge of the expedition and safety of their crew. How far are they willing to go to save someone?
the representative [npc]
Of course the corp isn't going to let the crew go alone, they need eyes and ears aboard the SS-Azael to make sure everyone abides by the MHC's standards. I wonder if their allegiance to the corp will save them from this mess?
the comms officer [npc]
A linguistic specialist who is able to run the PA and broadcasting systems, this individual will help keep communication flowing between everyone. Unfortunately for this crew, communication won't be the only thing flowing.
the undercover reporter [npc]
Now how did they get on board? Under the guise of medical personnel, this individual is convinced MHC is trying to cover up something. This story will be a page-turner for sure - if people believe them that is.
the pilot
An expedition via space travel wouldn't be possible without someone who knows how to fly and handle spaceships and aircrafts. I wonder how they fly under pressure?
the chief of security
Skilled in providing intel via the surveillance camera system and offering security on board, this individual acts as a police officer for the ship by upholding the law. They are going to have to bend the rules a little if they want to survive this thing.
the soldier
Who knows what they will find on MHS-Desdemona, thus the corp elected to hire a skilled soldier who knows to fight and handle weaponry. Nothing could have trained them for this.
the veteran
Leaving the military life behind for whatever reason, the veteran's found solace in a new life. However, a veteran's income doesn't put food on the table. Strapped for cash, they are going to do what they do best and hopefully for the last time. Let's hope they aren't too rusty.
the doctor
Someone could be seriously injured upon the MHS-Desdemona, thus a doctor is integral. They are going to have their hands full.
the nurse
A doctor always needs a dutiful nurse, someone who is there to support their patients through thick and thin. I wonder if nurses get taught how to deal with homicidal patients?
the field biologist
The study of wildlife and plants is not only fascinating but might prove useful on the expedition. Yet, how does one study something they have never seen before?
the microbiologist
The SS-Azael has a state of the art lab aboard and it would be a shame to let it go to waste. They are proficient in the study and examination of microbes and diseases. I wonder what they will call this new disease - if they survive that is?
the astrophysicist
In space you need someone well-versed with the universe and all of its celestial bodies. This expedition may lead to discovering a new phenomena, but will they have time to crack the code before it is too late?
the software engineer
They know computers like the back of their hand, which the corp believes will be beneficial for the expedition. There is no hiding behind the computer screen this time.
the mechanical engineer
Machinery is their bread and butter which is pivotal in repairing the MHS-Desdemona's communication. I hope they have a mean swing with their wrench.
the psychologist
The corp apparently cares about the mental wellbeing of their staff. Studying the human psyche has taught them about people and their motivations. I hope they brushed up on their techniques, cause they sure as hell are gonna need them.
the forensic pathologist
An interesting choice to bring someone along who studies the dead and their cause of death. Maybe the corp is trying to cover all bases or is expecting the worst? One thing is for sure, they are going to have a lot of cadavers to cut open.
the cook
Maybe not as integral as the others aboard the SS-Azael, but the cook knows how to turn that poorly-tasting synthetic food into tolerable meals. Plus, at least someone knows how to use a knife.
the bounty hunter
A head hunter, this individual's latest target has apparently fled to the MHS-Desdemona. Luckily the corp isn't going to turn their nose up to someone handy with a gun. I wonder if the bounty's reward is worth their life?
the family member
Knowing someone could be in danger, especially family, will make someone stop at nothing to find out the truth. They knew someone aboard the MHS-Desdemona and for whatever reason found themselves with a ticket to their last location. Let's hope it isn't their last location either.
the stowaway
Fleeing from something or someone, the stowaway was able to board the SS-Azael under everyone's noses. Yet, it didn't take long for hunger to set in and to reveal themselves to the crew. Too far from any station, the captain decided they must pull their weight. They really should of chosen the other ship at the dock to climb aboard.
