She’s bad at the awkward smalltalk you partake in when you first get to know someone, in fact she is quite hard to talk to because she’s so unsure and mopey. Fortunately, she is trying to get past this, even though she is completely terrified by even the easiest of conversations. She is far too negative and becomes sarcastic when defensive or backed into a corner. When she is feeling off she tends to bring the mood down for others too, which she knows full well is selfish of her, but her emotional state is currently very turbulent and unstable. She hates the way she looks to the point where even compliments make her feel uneasy. She thinks she looks like a troll or a witch.

That being said, Min has some good points as well. She is very funny, and good at making others laugh. She is good hearted and will gladly offer herself up as someone to listen and offer advise. She is goal oriented, and works very hard at what she is passionate at, and she is also very brave. She will face confrontation almost with ease, and is extremely good at remaining calm under pressure, even emotional pressure. personality | min ha is easy to get along with or so she believes. her personality doesn't change because of her location. she acts the same way both inside and outside of the boarding house. she at least tries to be approachable which isn't hard on her part, considering that she smiles a lot and has a cute, child-like face. she is a laid-back, happy-go-lucky girl most of the time that prefers to go with the flow rather than try to change things. she would accept chaos as long as no one she cares about is hurt. she is especially well-mannered and polite around strangers but like many others she is much goofier and impulsive with both her words and actions with close friends. the difference between these two temperaments can be quite surprising when you make the switch from a mere acquaintance to something more, but there are aspects of her personality that don’t change no matter who she’s around.

for example, she is exuberant no matter what time of day, the words "i'm tired" rarely ever coming from her mouth. no one knows how she gets it done. it's like she had an invisible well inside of her to pull the energy from. it’s in her persona to always be ready to move onto the next pursuit of happiness. she does tire emotionally though, just like everyone else. sometimes things are too much for her and the only way to feel better is to cry it out. that aside, min ha always finds the optimistic part of everything and though at her age she should have a certain level of maturity, there are times she does behave childishly. she can be seen as a bit harsh to those with more tender dispositions since she tends to resort to playful insults and good-natured jibes as a way of showing her fondness. true to her direct and realistic nature, she’s very blunt in turns of speech and blatantly states things as she sees them, only holding back when she’s in the company of people who she could possibly offend and has some reason to impress. ironically, min ha is also one of those people with more delicate sensibilities. though she throws around sarcastic jabs like halloween candy, she herself is easily hurt by hate comments when they are directed at her.

as a result of her upbringing, min ha is quite high-maintenance. she can find anything to make a complaint about. that doesn’t mean she would, but if she’s in a bad mood then you should expect a lot of grumbling from her. it has toned down since she has moved into the gamcheon house but true to that saying, "old habits die hard" it is ingrained in her personality, therefore, it would never truly be scraped from her. at the very least, she is accustomed to getting what she wants but she would much rather acquire it herself and not always rely on others to do it for her. it is only when she isn’t allowed to do so that she gets irritated. she does feel proficient when she accomplishes a feat which leads to her becoming boastful and arrogant but not in repulsive sort of way. she would just continue to yammer on about it and try to subtly fish compliments from others (saying things like "i didn't do that well" or "it wasn't even that big a deal")

that is a another result of min ha's upbringing. she was always taught to never look down on her abilities thus what could be seen as an impossible feat to some is just a difficult obstacle to her. it is meant to be challenged and overcome. she’s ambitious. she has a strong will and is strong at heart. along with having a hardworking and determined essence, min ha is extremely loyal to those who have treated her right. betraying her trust is an awful thing in her eyes but she is not one to never forgive or hold long and pointless grudges. she would stand up for those she loves if they are wronged or insulted just as much as she would for herself if someone wronged her

biography | tragedy was something that was never present in min ha's life. everything good was always sent her way. it seemed the gods favored her, born on a bright sunny monday in the year 1996 to a well off family in busan, she was the only child in the choi household as her parents originally didn't plan for children but as time went on the loneliness began to suffocate them. of course, being an only child had its perks. everything was handed down to her especially if she cried loud enough, though that didn't mean she was treated as a princess because min ha surely got her fair share of scoldings.

growing up was a blast for her. she had many friends, went to a good school and had everything she could dream of. that started falling apart by the time she hit fifteen though when she told her parents what dream she wanted to pursue. they wanted her to become a successful lawyer and make loads of money but in min ha's eyes, she could see she would only be unhappy in her position. to add to that, she wanted to be a journalist of all occupations and journalism wasn't basically a bad word in her household. a few years prior, a close family friend of the choi's had their life turned upside down by a journalist and because of that their family began to develop a deep hate for the profession.

this led to a fallout between min ha and her parents and from then on min ha hadn't been on the best terms with her parents. she never lost respect for them, to say the least and that was simply because they were the ones who raised her and provided her with all of her needs. eventually after times passed they began to accept her decision although it didn't mean they approved of it.

by the time she hit eighteen and was accepted to college she was ready to move out and away from her parents. they had specifically told her if she really wanted to be a journalist she would have to show them she could succeed without any help of theirs and they would support her decision merely because she was their beloved daughter. min ha took those words to heart and began to pursue her dream. first by finding a place to reside which turned to be the gamcheon boarding house. she eventually got an internship after the hard work she put in during her college years and moved up the scale until she was an official journalist. she continues to pursue her dreams and updates her parents on where she is every once in a while. they have learned to be proud of their daughter and support her choices.

At the boarding house, he is a recluse. He stays away from everyone and is quiet at the dinner table. Apollo was born to a single French-American mother, Bela Clarke, as his father left them before he was born. When he was five she met a wealthy Korean business man named, Lee Hanuel who she married a few months later. He soon started calling him Dad, and began learning many different languages from both parents. By the time he was 6 he was fluent in 4 different languages. English, Korean, French and Cantonese. Life was great. He got good grades, had some awesome friends. He might have been diagnosed with ADHD when he was 8 but that never stopped him. He was still himself. He was 9 when it was announced that he'd be a big half-brother. He was extremely happy and they called her Lee Jin Bak but he just called her JB. She had his gift for linguistics but was a drawer. When he was twelve he found an old guitar in a room at his Dad's summer home. He found a tuner and tuned it and soon wanted to know how to play. He didn't have an awful voice either. He performed in different places around the country and soon learned how to make music on the computer and began writing songs. When he was 15 he released a small album on a website he created. The album had originals and covers of artists he liked and mixed genres together. He didn't exactly know what he was doing. He just enjoyed it. All he wanted to do was keep going. When he was 16 his Mom died in a car crash. His Step-Dad began drinking more heavily. He said it was his fault and that he should never have been born. He started hitting him and verbally abusing him, calling him every name under the sun. He was also bullied at school for being gay. His Sister ran away and never contacted them again. He graduated high school with straight A's and could've went to college. He didn't want that. Instead he stole a fuck ton of his Dad's money and did what his sister did and ran away, only he wanted to find her and see her again.

Personal: Originally born in Seoul, Ryu made it to the Gamcheon Boarding House for reasons she hasn't made clear yet. As far as anyone knows, she is just another kid who is trying to make a living in a huge world through extremely unstable means and simply decided that Busan would be her best bet. She's new in the Boarding House and indeed in the town as well and has shown herself to be quite closed-up when it comes to serious matters that she thinks are of importance. However, she is the master of small-talk, and will almost always take the chance to engage in one regardless of the situation at hand. She's acquainted with pretty much everyone in the Boarding House, but is friends with none.

From a distance, Ryu can seem rather intimidating. But those who engage in conversation with her will quickly realize that she isn't, and mostly acts in a harmless manner. Despite being rather arrogant, Ryu comes off as charming due to her way with words and charisma. She is rather impulsive and can say things that could and would easily offend someone, but no matter how atrocious a thing she implies, she always finds a way to make others accept it.

She seems to be easily inspired, with any little thing possibly triggering a spark to lead her back into her room to paint. After witnessing how many canvases she had filled in just a week after moving in, that's what most people assume anyway.

This is the total opposite though because if you just sit down next to him or whatever he will simply start off a converation with you. For example in activities like cliff jumping, once he has done one height he wants go do another but ten feet highter, after that one another ten, and so can you go on until something goes wrong.

Jaejae has a comfortable vibe hanging around him which often suits his mood. Stress isn't a feeling he's familiar with and only kicks in rarely. That's probably one of the reasons why he often easily gets along with people, and people with him. Jaejae has seen all types of people during his trip so doesn't care whether you have a different skin colour, clothing style, interests or whatever. He's definitely not a person to judge quickly. But he can't deny that he never judges though, every human being does it without even realising it most of the time. But when Jaejae's mood is down he can be either really quiet or extremely irritated. You can read the irritation off his complete posture and facial expression, his muscles are all tightened and his jaw will be clenched 24/7. Don't worry though, give him some space and after a day or so it will be all vanished away like it never happened. And last but not least Jaejae is extremely stubborn. He will stand his ground in arguments because he's most of the time convinced that he's right and the other person is wrong. Sometimes it just has to go wrong for him to see that the other person had it at the right end.

At the boarding house is Jaejae slightly different than outside of it, but that's mainly because he's not talking to strangers at the boarding house. He is raised with polite manners which are also important to him. But when he's hanging around with friends or people he knows quite well they tend to slip a bit. His choice of words will be differently and less formal than when he's talking to strangers or talking to clients.

biography | Ever since Jaejae can remember he wanted to travel around the world and be able to do his own thing. These dreams were mostly formed by his view on the world. In his eyes we're all trapped in a web of rules, even though we may seem to live freely. We're constantly held back by things we can't do and things you have to be. You have to be polite, you have to get good grades, you have to do a study which can help you getting a well paid job, you have to dress propiate and 'normal', etcetera etcetera etcetera. Society is pushing you from the day you were born to grow up into a selfmade 'perfect' person. He's not saying there's something wrong with wanting to be like that, but there are a lot of people out there who are forced to become someone they're not. Whether it's by direct or indirect pressure. Now Jaejae wasn't forced to become anything by his parents. The only thing they wanted from him was that he finished school so if there was ever going something wrong when it came to money, he could rely on his diploma and find a well-paying job. And basically that's what he did, he finished his degree in multimedia design and after that worked as much as he could to save up a lot of money.

Now I can hear you wondering, what has travelling around the world to do with his world view? Well, let me explain that for you. Jaejae is interested in the different standards in the different cultures around the world. He's wondering whether we're all aiming for the same goals and what differences there are. Especially in countries like North Korea and Russia where people are repressed constantly. How is it to live like that? And what is the reason that you're staying in your country under these circumstances? He wants to dig deeper into the whole mystery. During his trip he's trying to film as much as possible, otherwise, he will try to record somehow. His parents are supporting him in this trip and try to facetime or call him whenever possible. They're still living in his place of birth, Daegu, together with his younger sister who's also aspiring to get into the fashion industry like their mother. Once he's leaving the boarding house he will make a stop at Daegu to visit his family.

Growing up, Joohyun and his brother were treated with respect and love, but often times with various, subtle dysfunctionalities. For example, their parents rarely told them that they were proud of them - in fact, they did just the opposite. They considered their kids to be strong and independent, so they scolded them more than congratulated them. Joohyun grew to understand and appreciate it while his brother developed self-esteem issues and became detached from their parents. As they got older, he developed a depressive disorder and became very unhealthy.
Joohyun didn't understand. He wanted to - God, how he wanted to! But he wouldn't explain and shut him out. Finally, after graduating high school, he moved out immediately and attended uni, cutting off all contact with Joohyun and their parents.
One day, Joohyun saw him in passing on his way home from school and waved, smiling. He didn't even turn to look at him. Joohyun's smile disappeared and he rushed his brother, punching him across the face and screaming all the words he'd wished he had said sooner. "Who the fuck do you think you are?! Huh?! You think you're some big-shot loner who doesn't need anyone else?! Aren't you my hyung?! Aren't we supposed to be there for each other?! Answer me, you bastard!" His brother punched him right back and they fought, but after this, he never forgot the importance of his family. He began to heal, with the help of Joohyun and their parents, who learned their lesson. For Joohyun, this was a defining, coming-of-age moment. He realized how much people need each other, how important it is to appreciate life and to seek happiness, health, and healing above all else, and that it's ok to not know or not understand - all that's necessary is to be there for others.
His first piece of writing was based on this event. He wrote the story of a boy who was surrounding by people and yet felt that he was all alone. His story won 2nd place in a youth writing competition for a magazine, earning him a laptop. This sparked his passion for writing and he pursued it as hard as he could.
When his parents learned that he planned to become an author, they shut it down completely. A career in art was not an option. He was to become a respectable, useful member of society, not some starving artist with his head in the clouds.
He kept his writing a secret from there, going through high school and doing his best on exams just like anyone else. The only ones who knew the truth were his three close friends, two of which had been with him since middle school. But when he graduated, he came out with it; he was not going to college. He was going to become a writer.
His parents exploded, but he had already published his first book. This was the only thing that made them reconsider. Because of the bit of money he made from it, they agreed to let him move into a boarding house or dorm and pursue his passion for a year. After that, he had to go to college. They all agreed and he thanked them immensely for the opportunity to chase his dreams.

On the outside, Eun-Min wears a sweet smile, acts all cutesy, and is like, so adorable! On the inside, however, she's a lying attention seeking whore who will do anything to keep what attention she has. Despite this, Minnie indeed has a good heart; she just buries it with deceit and lies so that no one will break it. The reason for this being she is new to the whole friend making scenario and never really received much love in her life. However, if someone somehow befriends her, they will see that Eun is a rather caring girl who loves to talk about anything. She enjoys listening to her friends' problems and tries her best to help out. Alas, this good side of Minnie is for close friends, maybe a regular friend only. Acquaintances, enemies, and men will get her fake side of smiles and hair flips. While romantic interest receives her...well, who knows.

Let's just say, being the youngest out of five while the other four were boys, it was hard for Eun-Min to get some love and affection. Her father, a wealthy entrepreneur, never even acknowledge Minnie's existence. Thankfully, Eun's mother was there for her and paid more attention to her than her sons. Minnie's mother was a sweet lady and worked at an Aquarium as a tour guide. She was the one who sparked Eun's interested in the water and the species that lived in it. Minnie would always go with her mother to the Aquarium if she had the chance to learn more about aquatic life. Eun's mom and the Aquarium were her everything and her escape from the torment of the men of the house. Sadly, when Minnie was twelve, her mother passed. Eun's mother went to save a child who fell into the lionfish pools and was pricked by one of its barbs. A year after her mother's death, the Aquarium shut down after failing a safety inspection. Thus, Minnie was trapped with her father and her brothers.

Eun's brothers were not the nicest of people and were well-known bullies on the streets. They would annoy Minnie and sometimes hit her if she didn't do what they wanted her too. Minnie tried to tell her father, but he just brushed it off as boys being boys. Eun endured two years of bullying before she could not take it anymore. Minnie enrolled herself in some self-defense classes and learned to use her charms. Two more years past which resulted in Minnie had her own gang of boys who did her every bidding, and she had skills to beat down one brother and injury another. Eun made sure her fights with her brothers were outside just in case they decided to outnumber her. When this happens, she uses her damsel-in-distress act to attract some extra help. Or if they were in her gang's location, they would appear to help out. This plan worked out 90%! Her brothers soon began to back off seeing how their little sister developed into a force to be reckoned with. Eventually, they stopped altogether. Some might think Minnie should be happy now. Surprisingly, she was not.

Eun's brothers only paid attention to Minnie because they could torment her, now that they could not they didn't bother seeing her at all. Minnie was all alone. Her gang still followed her, but she knew they only liked her because of her looks and money. She had no real friends. The idea caused Minnie to go into a depression, in which she hoped to get rid of with drugs and sex. Sadly, that did not work, and so when Minnie was old enough, she moved out. Eun moved into Gamcheon Boarding House and became happier the longer she stayed there. She was finally getting the positive attention and friendship that she needed.

Soo-Jung is quite the character. She tends to lack impulse control and buys whatever it is she wants, and whenever anyone tries to even imply that she should watch her money, she gets quite frustrated and a little bit angry. Her general view is that she will do what she wants, and will fight with anyone who tells her otherwise (save for the law, as she believes abiding by it is important).

Her energetic side of her personality is quite prominent. She's always running around, and is both a morning and night person. She can run on what seems like limited steam, but is really just a whole awful lot of caffeine. Morning jogs, evening walks, and being always on her feet, Soo-Jung is quite active, and bursting with energy.

She is very compassionate as well. She believes everyone deserves second chances, and third chances, and fourth chances. She enjoys the company of people, and tries to be as kind and sweet as possible, save for if they challenge her that is.

Biography

Born and raised in Seoul, both her parents worked mundane jobs. Her father an accountant, and her mother simply working in an unnamed office doing goodness knows what. For Soo-Jung, spending ridiculous amounts of time alone has always been normal due to her parents' long hours. But when they were home, she'd make an effort to spend time with them when she could.

During her early years, Soo-Jung was diagnosed with scoliosis. Her back, bent into an 'S' shape only got worse with age, and she soon began going in and out of hospitals and different physical therapy offices. By the time she was sixteen, she needed a surgery to correct her spine, something that scared her greatly. While she went through with the much needed procedure, due to all her years in hospitals, and many less than savoury experiences, she grew to fear doctors. To this day she detests even getting simple checkups, and prefers home remedies.

When she was spending time recovering from her surgery in the hospital, she found herself drawn to their garden. When she was well enough, Soo-Jung spent all the time she could in the gardens. She developed a love for flowers and growing, and from that point on vowed that she wanted to be a florist and own her own little garden shop.

When she finally graduated high school, she spent several years apprenticing in a flower shop learning to master her craft. She enjoyed every minute of it, and her parents were very supportive. So much so that they encouraged her to move to Gamcheon to pursue her dream of owning her own flower shop after they saw an ad stating that a beautiful little store was up for rent. It's because of her parents encouragement that Soo-Jung took the plunge and ended up moving what felt like half way across the globe for her dream. She knew early on she wanted a small community, so the boarding house was the perfect choice for her.
