should i be able to post status updates?

I have over ten posts and have been on for more than 24 hours. I see the status update bar sometimes, but whenever I click it, it takes me to my profile and the box vanishes.

Our old system used to do this automatically.  You will have to enable the feature first.  Return to your profile page and click 'Edit' in the top right-hand corner.  A prompt box will allow you to enable the status updates.
