Shadow Trail (Necro and Flannel)

NecroKnight

Former Elite Death Knight of Decay
...it was cold, it was snowing, it was bloody freezing. For Detective Nick Sanchez, it was the worst time of the year to be a police officer - chasing hoodlums on the ice, where neither feet nor tires could get good traction. If you even could get your vehicle to work in this cold.

And that usually left you chasing punks, whom could run the athletic marathon - and on slippery ice, it was simply begging for trouble. But this time of the year, trouble seemed to have found them.

Nick Sanchez and his partner had been called in - a body had been discovered in the New York Park; or Central Park in Manhattan - it would turn out to be a rather cold and long investigation for this case.

"Bloody cold..." cursed Nick - age of 43, his once black replaced by a shagging light black and a few shades of gray - pulling the car into Central Park, and exiting the vehicle. It was colder inside than it was outside.

Ann Lewis, 41, had been damaged by the nine years of being on the force. She had a sense of paranoia and that she should look over her shoulder at least every few minutes. Some cases kept her up at night and left her being afraid of the dark. She never understood how others could do this for so long. Maybe she wasn't cut out for police work; Maybe she was cut out to own a quirky bakery and smile all the fucking time. After so long, she still had a gut-wrenching anger at the sight of some poor, murdered soul. Only now, she knew how to control it and not let her emotions get the better of her.

Ann pulled her vehicle besides Sanchez's and nodded her head at him. She tugged at her gray scarf and pulled her coat around her a little tighter. Unfortunately, she had underestimated Mother Nature's icy breath.
"Thought it'd be a little less cold today.." she commented. Lewis approached the scene, alongside Sanchez and let her eyes scan the girl's body. There's that anger boiling again. She thought.

"Name?" she asked.

"Eliza Richer," spoke the coroner, examining her body. "A gunshot to the chest and two into her stomach, bled on the spot."

Nick grumbled at the scene - a young woman, maybe early thirties had been shot, three times. Still wearing the same winter outfit, that most of them had on them.

"Jesus." Ann said.

Ann knelled down besides the body to get a closer look. She noticed a carved 'X' on Eliza's earlobe and tapped her partner's shoe.
"Has to be a symbol, right?" she asked. "We ever get something like this before?"

Nick merely shrugged his shoulders - not knowing how to explain this. "We've got somebody shot; without any sign of forced attack or assault. Simple bang-bang-bang."

"Maybe a gang murder? Serial killer?"

Ann sighed and pulled out her phone. She then continued to snap a picture of the mark, the body as a whole, and lowered her device. "Anything you can spot, here, Sanchez?" she asked. "Or can we get this body out of here?" Ann brushed her brown hair out of her face and looked up at her partner, waiting for a response.

Sanchez looked around the body - it was difficult to understand, how many people had been here; as many other officers had gone through the snow.

"She was shot - from the front, not the back. Nothing out of place..." he spoke, thinking to himself. "I think this might have been thought-out. If somebody wanted her dead, they would've shot her in the back. Quick and clean, without much personal crisis. It is hard to shot somebody, when they are looking directly at you."

"Nono - they just shot her. Shot from the front, so the victim could see her shooter. If this would've been a run-and-shoot, the bullets would've been from the side, back or other direction. Gang members, young initiates, don't like to usually check up. Pick somebody, bang and go," he said, re-enacting the event. As he faced his partner - standing right infront of her.

"I can see you, you can see me. I propably trust or know you, since it came from the front, and I'm not missing anything. You must have done something to me, I don't like you much - words and maybe some yelling, I lose my patience..." spoke Nick. "...bang...bang...you collapse and I make a run for it."

"We should check the closest people to her first. Spouse, workers, the usual group..."

(Hey, sorry for the long wait)

"Alright, great work, Sherlock." she said.

Ann dusted herself off and and began walking to her own car. "Why don't we check to see if she had any boyfriends- or any husbands. This could be the work of a jealous ex, it almost always is." she suggested.

"Sure enough. Lets head down to precint, and see if they have come-up with any ideas or leads," spoke Nick, as he headed to his own car, and started to drive back towards HQ.
