Origin Story
The world began in a flourish of light and sound. A moment before this eruption, Nothing conquered the void, an endless amount of nothing, for what was Nothing but something? As the light dimmed, it’s reach filling the nothing, a small sapling grew from the point where the universe was born. From this sapling, two beings were born, Chron and Luca, time and space, life and death. As time was born and Chron awoke, the sapling began to grow. It’s branches reached out and created worlds which Chron and Luca oversaw. In total, eight completely different, yet similar worlds donned the branches of this great tree, given the name Ydriss by the beings who came from it. In each of these worlds, the influence of the beings was found in echoes. Chron’s presence granted life, though it was finite, while Luca’s arrival brought the world’s constructs, but she made life so fleeting. On and on, did the two visit.
As they came upon the top of this towering tree, they discovered something new. As Luca stepped foot into the world, her special influence brought forth a small universe all in-and-of-itself. Within this place, a singular, outreaching branch of the worlds' tree grew a bud that would eventually flower. At the center of this beautiful plant, dubbed a carnation, a strange object resided. Coming closer, the two felt some kind of kinship with the object. Their investigation revealed that this thing contained seven unique parts. On the outside, this sphere-like item had a sturdy shell, resilient and strong. Just past it was another layer, one that appeared calm and smooth. Under these was a layer that brought a light of curiosity to the beings, it seemed random and odd. Sometimes smooth and level, while at others, it was wild and shaking. As they continued to examine this curiosity, they discovered just beneath this chaotic layer was yet something more different. Two layers, one bright, the other dark, seemed to be weighing the object on either side, keeping it from breaking apart. Distracted by what they could see, Chron and Luca almost missed the last two parts. At the center of this item, disguised in a veil were two more layers, one mysterious and strange while the center one seemed to culminate bits and pieces of all the other layers.
The item before them confused the beings, a sort of resonance that drew them to the thing. Chron reaches out slowly, taking the thing into his hands. As he did, the light of creation, the origin of Ydriss and the beings themselves, shown once more. As the light faded, within Chron’s hand was a new being, one much younger than its siblings. While Chron was curious over the result, Luca seemed more mystified by what the item before had been. As the being investigated, she discovered more and more of these flower buds, though much smaller than the first they had found. She, as Chron had, took the object into her hands slowly. As she did, no light came from her hands, quite the opposite. As her fingers graced the object, darkness looked around it before shattering the thing into its seven parts. Luca was shocked. By now, Chron and the new being, yet to be named, has rejoined Luca and they watched as they seven parts of the soul descended from the tops of Ydriss, spreading out across the lower seven worlds.
Time further passed and the beings had discovered so much more about the universe amongst the leaves of Ydriss and the seven worlds within her branches. Life blossomed greatly within the high universe, but as that life came to an end, the life of the being, contained in the strange object Chron and Luca has called a ‘soul’, would split into seven parts: the body, the mind, the heart, the light, the darkness, the shadow, and its core. These seven parts would separate and live peacefully within their individual worlds below this universe. Chron, Luca, and the new being not yet named watched this universe and the other seven worlds for a long time, learning and understanding what came from these ‘souls’, these gifts from Ydriss. Civilizations rose and fell. Peoples gathered and spread. However, as time passed and Ydriss grew older, the flowers began to appear much more slowly, life in the universe becoming increasingly rarer. Within the other seven worlds, the soul parts became overpopulated, too many within the smaller confines of the branches. From this, the two great beings devised a plan. They finally gave the third being a name and a domain to rule. Sul’Ran, the soul voyager. Sul’Ran was given the responsibility of rebuilding these shattered souls, helping life and death repopulate the universe above. Thus the Trial of the Soul began and the reincarnation of the shattered souls, those strong enough to reassemble themselves with the aid of Sul’Ran, allowed life to continue in the universe above.
Centuries, millennium, time continued to pass. Chron and Luca grew increasingly infatuated with their universe above the seven worlds. No longer did they aid Sul’Ran with the trials, only playing with their little planets and populations, controlling the fates of their toys. As this transition occurred and Sul’Ran was left alone more and more, the flow of souls trickled...and stopped altogether. Too distracted by their universe, the two great beings failed to notice and Sul’Ran disappeared, bringing an abrupt end to the trials.
