This is the character thread for the RP I'm hosting

Rules for the characters:

Age and base(s) learned is required for the characters rest of the info is up to you

5 different types of info minimum, you can't just put your character's name and age and then call it a day

Character portraits are completely optional

There's no limit for how many characters you can RP with, the only limit is how much you can handle

Veronika was just a regular student with a regular life until moving to haldur to stay with her childhood friend, learning that she can do magic, her parents decided to sign her up for the academy, she gained a few friends here and there, and gained a certain "interest" in her friends brother


Character 2: Athena Peterson

Relatives: unnamed father, unknown mother, Harken Peterson (Brother)

Athena, born into a pretty rich family, didn't have that many hardships in life, upon learning that she and Harken could use magic, their father moved to haldur and signed them up for serenity academy, with her childhood friend joining soon after, she never knew her mother

Finn had a pretty normal childhood, he was pretty good with handling boomerangs and was the best thrower in his family, although he can be a bit of a scoundrel, becoming a bit of a skirt chaser growing up, at age 16, his family learned he could do water magic and signed him up to serenity academy

  Personality: Seen as the disinterested and aloof professor of natural sciences, Edward fittingly never puts in the time nor effort to properly teach his class, often delegating his periods to 'self-study', if he ever shows up to class, that is. As such, it is common belief that Edward is just fudging his way toward every paycheck, and does not take his students seriously whatsoever; a common misconception stemming from the fact that before a teacher, Doctor Hart is first and foremost a researcher. As such, the majority of his efforts - and attention span - are dedicated exclusively to his research, rather than the students.
  
  That isn't to say that he cares not for teaching, however. Those that earn Edward's recognition would find him all too happy to impart his knowledge unto the younger generations, even if his private lectures may be a bit... difficult to understand. Sadly, rarely anybody ever asks the Doctor for his guidance, and would much rather spend their 'study period' doing anything else.

  'The Philosopher's Stone' (Atomic): The most base concept of the Atomic base honed to an extreme, Edward is able to rapidly reconfigure the structure of physical materials he touches down to an an atomic level, resulting in seeming to be able to erect structures, fabricate items, or convert one material to another. Uses can range from turning water to wine, lead to gold, or if need be, a living human to stone.​
  ​
  Arcane Magic (Energy): Direct manipulation of mana allows the user to shape it into myriad of forms, such as a protective barrier or a devastating volley of arcane missiles. A difficult-to-master form of magic, yet highly versatile in combat situations. Though, why would a professor need to be so versed in an art tailored for murder?​
  ​
  Counter-Magic (Energy): By interfering with the mana-flow in the environment, or by directly interfering with the mana within a target, the caster is able to effective 'jam' or 'fizzle out' magic that is being cast, though the latter is far less effective against a more skilled or experienced caster. A very handy tool for breaking up scuffles between students before they escalate.​
  
  
• "Hmm. Today's lesson is not very difficult, so it'll be a self-study. Please read through pages 64 to 78, and please let me know if you have any questions."
  
  And so begins yet another one of Doctor Hart's world-famous self-study sessions. Like clockwork, the Professor slumps over his desk and falls asleep at record speed, and as usual, practically nobody in his class is engaged in 'self-study'.
  
  Ever since the Doctor had been hired by the academy, his classes had always been known campus-wide as the 'free subject'. The one that comes with an automatic pass because the professor teaching it just didn't care. Whatsoever. After all, everyone knew that he's just here for the easy paycheck. A vulture swooping in at the opportunity to teach a subject that nobody would take seriously. This was a magic academy, so why in Hell would anyone need to study sciences?
  
  Of course, hearsay was often quite far from reality. The professor of natural sciences, Doctor Edward Hart was first and foremost a researcher; a scholar of magic, history and sciences hired by the academy to research new applications of magic, and to stretch the limits of what was originally thought possible. Of course, the credit tends to be taken by the prestigious magic academy to bolster their reputation, but the Doctor didn't mind - as long as the funding kept flowing.
  
  And as his students - it wasn't that he cared not for their progress and learning. Doctor Hart was not stupid - he knew well of the general consensus toward his subject. If a student would even show a hint of promise by asking, he would have been more than happy to share his knowledge.
  
  A shame that people rarely ask, though.

  “Now I am become Death,”
  
  Once proclaimed the man who fathered the weapon that would inevitably usher the end of mankind. With each step resounding across the silent stone desert, Edward imagined only of the anguish that man would have felt with the revelation that his creation would usher in the World’s extinction.
  
  His gaze flows over across a grey hellscape, a silent sea of humanoid figures. Petrified, preserved in time, like a remake of the aftermath of Pompeii, only that this time, it had been wrought forth by his own hands. As his fingers glide over the smooth and ice-cold ‘sculpture’ that had been a living human only moments ago, Edward’s lips quiver and twist into a deep frown. “These are civilians,” he quietly states, noting the general shape of what was once their attire, and the distinct lack of any trace of weapons on their person.
  
  “Hiding in a hospital. It’s a classic terrorist trick,” the company captain was quick to reply.
  
  “That wasn’t my point, Captain,” Edward was quicker to interject. “Some of these bodies can’t possibly be trained, armed personnel. I was promised that the hospital was empty.”
  
  “You must understand that sacrifices are necessary, Doctor. As is lying to your own allies to boost morale. But we’ve saved more lives than were sacrificed today. You’ve done a good thing, Doctor,” assures the Captain.
  
  As the men make their way into one of many wards, Edward is greeted by a sight that only causes the constricting sensation in his chest to further tighten its hold. Petrified bodies laying across beds also turned to stone, hospital personnel going about their duties, expressions of horror and unimaginable agony frozen in an instant. The sensation as your flesh warps to stone, helpless to only watch and feel. The mere thought caused Edward's heart to wrench.
  
  “This wasn’t what ‘the Philosopher’s Stone’ was for,” whispers Edward. Though his tone was cold, the light in his eyes wavered, smudged with a tinge of indescribable sadness. “It wasn’t to be a weapon of war, Captain.”
  
  “If we stormed inside, this entire building would’ve gone down regardless. You’ve potentially saved the lives of many more good men today, Doctor. When we return, you’ll surely be awarded-”
  
  “That. Isn’t. My. Point.” Interrupts Edward once more, raising his voice in his silently simmering melancholy and anger. “This kind of action against a medical institution is outlawed by the Convention for a reason, Captain. We’ve - no, I’ve just murdered hundreds, if not thousands of terrified, helpless civilians; men, women, elderly, children, in the name of weeding out a hundred or so terrorists.”
  
  “They aren’t just ‘terrorists’, Doctor. These ‘magic supremacists’ are more than just insane. If we let them be for even another day, who knows how many more ordinary civilians they would have culled like cattle? Our best option was to strike them by surprise with a magic that the world had never before seen until now. Even the Union had agreed to overlook this.” The Captain continues in his attempts at reason with the Doctor. “Even if it was done by your hands, nobody will hold you accountable.”
  
  “I do. I hold myself accountable, Captain,” whispers the Doctor.
  
  “And the one who will live on bearing the guilt is me, Captain.”

A river of blonde hair flowing downwards to their lower back with a tendency to curl off in random directions despite efforts taken to neaten such.   Due to the unconventional methods of Sophie's self-education before being brought to the academy, she was either unaware of the difficulties, naturally inclined or stubbornly persisted because of pride in one of the most complicated magic bases being that of energy. Though potentially it may be a mixture of all Three, to the point she has mostly ignored her actual base of Water. As a result of her somewhat perfectionist nature, lack of real instruction and difficulties advancing, she has repeatedly gone over the very basics and built up from there in her own path. As a result she has managed to take the fundamentals of the base far further. She is highly adept at sensing mana within people, the environment and spells, in addition to controlling her own mana internally. This has given her one of the most solid foundations for further study due to the number of times she has refined the very basics and her control, developing her own techniques in addition to the training methods she has used have also had multiple unintentional side effects to her body with several techniques becoming intuitive and natural. This foundation has allowed her greater ease in developing situational techniques based on her raw control of her own mana.
  
  Techniques (The following names may not be accurate to actual magical academic technique names or principles and have instead been named by Sophie herself)
  
  • Mana Flow: Ability to feel and control one's internal flow of mana
    • Mana Warmth: Rapidly cycling the internal flow of mana to generate heat. This allows the user to exist comfortably in extremely cold environments and advert the effects of exposure and hyperthermia.
      • Mana Recovery: Sending a steady flow and cycling of mana around injured areas, the user can increase their recovery times from days to hours.
    • Mana Draw: Ability to draw in Mana from the surrounding environment
      • Mana Pull: Ability to draw Mana out of existing objects and terrain that it has been infused or embedded into
        • Mana Condensation: The ability to condense mana into a liquid-like state increasing its concentration over its natural state in internally and externally.
          • Mana Compression: Further control of the condensation ability allows for the Mana to become pressurized internally and externally, increasing the volume and the speed at which it can be moved and circulated. If performed over a long enough period the technique will gradually expand the mana pathways and the amount that can be held internally.
            • Mana Solidification: Further compression results in a solidification of mana increasing its concentration further. While internally it is unable to be used in this state it does drastically increase the amount of Mana an individual is able to store within them.
              • Mana Projections: Performing the solidification externally allows the creation of solid items composed entirely of mana. This is limited by the users' own creativity and mana reserves, in addition to such projections often becoming unstable once leaving physical contact, quickly dispersing back into ambient Mana.
              • Mana Armor: Solidification of Mana on the surface of the user and internally can create a protective barrier that reduces the damage taken and prevents injury.
              • Mana Empowerment: Solidification of Mana within the body of the user can empower the areas it is focused on, such as increasing the performance of muscles or more.
                • Mana Attraction: Combining previous principles, this high-level technique requires both an immense mana reserve as well as high control. Condensing the Mana even further, it creates its own natural pull which increases based on the level of mana concentrated.
      • Mana Push: As opposed to the ability to draw in Mana, this ability instead focuses on the ability to expel and push it outwards.
        • Mana Expansion: Reversing the concept of condensation, this technique allows the user to increase the volume of mana by decreasing its concentration.
          • Mana Dispersal: Expanding concentrations of Mana further, the user is able to drastically increase the volume in a area by lowering its quality. This can make drawing in ambient mana far more difficult, limiting casters with low internal reserves.
            • Mana Burst: By performing expansion rapidly and combining it with the push technique, the user can create forceful blasts of mana.
              • Mana Repulsion: A lower intensity but far more prolonged version of the Mana burst technique allows for a repulsion effect to be maintained, pushing Mana and objects away from the user.
            • Mana Break: By performing the burst effect within existing concentrations of Mana, the user can effectively dispel the effects by breaking down the mana which forms the effects or items.
        • Mana Infusion: A combination of the Push and Condensation techniques that allows the user to infuse raw mana into physical objects or other targets.
          • Mana Conversion: A combination of the Drawing Technique and several others, the user is able to take in existing sources of Mana and convert it to raw unattuned mana to fuel their own reserves. This can also be used in the inverse provided the user has skills in other attributes of Mana.
          • Mana Storage: The advanced form of Mana Infusion allows for Mana to be pushed into targets and maintained, creating long term storage of energy in various concentrations depending on the skill of the user.
            • Mana Overload: An accidental technique created by Sophie in which excess Mana is infused into an object in an unstable manner beyond what it can contain. As a result the object effectively becomes an unstable Mana bomb that will detonate when sufficiently agitated.

    • Mana Observation: Advancing the Mana sense, the user can determine the nature, quality and amount of mana, including the directions and areas in which it is flowing
      • Mana Analysis: Further refining the Mana sense technique, the user is able to detect how mana is connected and structured, in addition to defining the particular signature of Mana that is unique to particular casters.
        • Mana Tracking: By combining Observation and Analysis, Sophie is able to track Mana across distances to locate the source and passage.

  • Physical Condition: A combination of over-saturation of mana and her upbringing, Sophie holds an immense amount of strength in her body, capable of superhuman feats of physical ability.
    • Mana Poisoning Immunity: As part of her physical condition and repeated exposure, Sophie is highly attuned to mana and is able to overcome sickness and poisoning caused by exposure to raw condensed mana and oversaturation.
  • Mana Reservoir: Repeated issues of the fundamentals beyond what they are intended have allowed Sophie to develop a vast internal mana network and reservoir with higher-quality pathways. In comparison, while others hold what could resemble a pool or even a lake, Sophies would be far better described as an Ocean. This combined with her level of control has given her high prospects for the further development of her magic.
  • Sports: Due to the popularity in her home area, Sophie holds a great talent for several sports, most notably those of Lacross, Wrestling and Hockey with everything those entail.

  Backstory:
  Sophie grew up in rural Quebec as part of a large family but was somewhat isolated at the same time given their remoteness. Between the home chores, her only real social outings were local sporting events which she took to with gusto. Given the large amount of free time that she would put towards developing her magical abilities, though given the lack of formal instruction or materials she would need to figure it out by herself. The result of this would be finding her own way, going over the basics again and again until they felt natural in attempts to build up to something more. The end product of this would be completely missing her base affinity and instead developing her control of energy through her own personal mana manipulations rather than with any actual affinity attached to it. Due to this it was only natural for her to jump at the prospect of attending an actual magical school, the instruction and socializing with others who were not her immediate family being too good to pass up.

Backstory: Ciernan ended up in the system due to his parents passing away in a bank robbery when he was 5 years old. After a lot of work he managed to emancipate himself and eventually moved abroad as a transfer student before he signed up for the magic academy when his powers awakened and he nearly flooded a classroom.

Personality: For the most part Ciernan is rather laid-back but he can certainly be opinionated and come off cold when he doesn't agree with something. His resting bitchface can often make him seem unapproachable but once someone has the courage to get close, he's a very good listener and enjoys hanging out. One way to win him over will always be food or helping him study things he struggles with. Like math. Ciernan despises math with a passion and would rather skip class than bust his brain over numbers. Once he's considered a friend, he becomes rather protective and care-taking of his people, often regarded as the 'mom' of a group.

On the other hand, Naio can be easily annoyed and irritated, causing him to be very confrontational with others even over misunderstandings. Naio holds grudges and tends to be petty, usually going farther than he should, while also being extremely stubborn. Though he may seem like an annoying brat on the outside (which he is) he is also a very hardworking and determined individual, especially when it comes to learning things and improving things. His inherit competitiveness also feeds into his desire to learn, which sometimes bleeds into a desire to outperform others. Naio also tends to be independent, generally not wanting to receive the help of others and especially not wanting to be indebted to them.   The moment they laid eyes on her, with her fierce pair of blue eyes, the girls parents knew their Silja would be special. Born to a wealthy family descending from century old royalty, Silja came into this world with endless opportunity but much to live up to. The Ulvefelts were known for discipline harsh as the winter cold, breeding strong leaders and powerful fighters akin to warriors of old, toughing through the elements. This of course meant that the newborn was expected to honor their ways and grow up fast to prove their worth.
  
  From an early age, Silja excelled with martial prowess and showed signs of developing magical abilities. Every adult around her, Maids, Butlers, Cousins and Friends were convinced she was supernatural with her gifts and most notably her full head of white hair that glistened like snow. A beautiful yet wildly powerful child that needed to be tied down, lest she become a wild sort. Her parents made sure to nail every lesson in etiquette into her head and reinforced it with a structured routine of sparring, schooling and sharpening every aspect that made her an Ulvefelt.
  
  By the time she had turned 13, Silja had already surpassed expectations, becoming an excellent fighter for her age and excelling in two forms of magic, but she had grown a chip on her shoulder. A distaste for all things posh and entitled, all things commonplace in her life amongst the rich boys and girls that squabbled. She had no intention of conforming or associating with the regular brats at functions. Her glare was effective at scaring them off weather it was intended or not, but it both granted her solitude and brought an equal hatred from the others onto herself. Her fellow classmates in elementary school soon held the same resentment, which eventually lead to a fight where two boys each received a broken nose.
  
  Furious with Silja, her parents punished her harshly for her actions which reminded her of the important of image. But for the society she had found herself in, image was just a face. Her peers and even her superiors were surrounded by money and became lost somewhere down the line and the disgust was palpable. She would find the true meaning of a good image by becoming truly good, she declared through tearful eyes. A rapidly growing obsession with that of elegance took root in her, inspired by many traditions in the west. Japan was a place of wonder and beauty where everything had a more artistic eye. Home was so bleak to her after seeing the same thing day in and day out.
  
  Her parents would refuse to send their only daughter away despite her lashing out, but she protested endlessly, deciding anywhere would be better than this hell. The look in her eyes could not be ignored forever and she would soon get her way.
  
  The Sasaki family, friends of the Ulvefelts would house her and watch over her studies during her time overseas, where she would become friends with their grounds keeper, who happened to be a swordsman. It was he who taught her his way in the sword, and a greater understanding of Japanese culture. Silja learned tranquility in a time where her mind was turbulent and to be humble without the curse of wealth. And with a greater understanding of the culture and herself, Silja returned home years later. However, it was soon time to enter another stage in her life where she would once again be tested, now in the ways of magic.

  Breeze Walk: A technique that allows for limited flight to become possible. Creating an equal force on the sole of the feet, Silja can temporarily maintain air by leaping off of it.
  
  Queen's Blade: Silja's signature technique; using the air around her to create sound, she channels it through her blade at high frequencies to cause vibration. This effectively makes her sword twice as sharp if not more.
  
  Laser Arrow: Inspired by her time with the bow, Silja fires off a thin projectile. Energy magic streaks by in the form of a glowing arrow out from her blade.
  
  Queen's Blade Second Degree: On top of the super-sonic enhancement to her blade, Silja can go a step further and imbue it with magical energy to improve it's effectiveness even further.
  
  Gale Transfiguration: Mixing wind magic and energy magic creates a new form, coined as "gale." Gale forms wind into something of a blade with a glowing hue, capable of slices rather than gusts. This is preferred over her two bases.
  Sweeping Gale: From her blade comes a swiping wave of magical wind that can cut and blow away a target.
  
  Crescent Gale: A swifter slash with Silja's blade launches a crescent moon-shaped projectile; magical wind with a sharp edge. This can be preformed laterally or horizontally and can be preformed consecutively.
  
  One Thousand Swarming Butterflies: Sheathing her blade while concentrating her mana into her blade, Silja releases countless Crescent Gales in a cone as though there were hundreds of butterflies being released. This is her ace in the hole and consumes the most mana.
  
  Martial Arts: Silja is massively efficient with classic weaponry, including swords, spears, bows, axes etc. A curved blade fits most comfortably in the young woman's hand, a katana suiting her best and in honor of her teacher during her time in Japan.
  
  Disarmed, Silja has her training in more intimate marital arts to fall back on. Reaching 3rd Dan black belt in Karate became her backbone for technique, followed by Tae Kwon Do.

Adopted practically at birth by Madam Hecate Yao, reputed CEO of the Athis fashion conglomerate, Proserpina had everything she could possibly want at any point in her life, though with it came the expectation that she would share Mdm. Yao's tastes and talents, all the better to inherit her mother's empire when the time came. Pina didn't exactly fight this idea, but like any young (and especially privileged) person, she had ideas of her own.

She spent her early teens developing a great enthusiasm for video games and manga, and eventually decided to turn her own artistic talents and love of the spotlight towards the ever-popular hobby of cosplay. She initially made something of a splash (thanks in no part to her existing social media following) with her appearances at the two days of one of the calendar's most prominent conventions as the lead character of the game Cotton Candy Buzzsaw, and then the heroine of the anime Could It Be Acceptable To Get A Divorce In The Labyrinth?

Fed by the attention and with Mdm. Yao hammering on the importance of developing one's Brand, Pina continued to design and model costumes, hold livestreams, and make appearances at various events, often being requested to promote this or that sponsor, or perform popular music from this or that release of the year. It may not have been the trajectory Mdm. Yao wanted for her, but a model was a model, and a profitable business was a profitable business.

One of Pina's most prized creations was the design of her original character, "Spider Lily, The Enchanting Kunoichi". She had commissioned a comic series based on the character, and had an animated series in the conceptual stages when the recruiter from Serenity Academy arrived. Why she of all people was approached was a mystery: after all, Proserpina Yao was many things, but she was no hero. What's even more mysterious is the fact that she accepted, putting all her projects on hold and agreeing to enter the Academy late. Perhaps this will be a chance for her to discover something new about herself...

As it were, Pina's artistry and chosen line of work seem to create the impression in some that she is a conceited sort, and Pina does little to disabuse them of that notion. Indeed, she is self-absorbed, flamboyant, often flirty, and enjoys being the center of attention. But she is also generous not just materially, but in her care for those she sees suffering, and never stands for undue criticism or pettiness towards anyone. Perhaps the qualities of a hero are closer to the surface than even she knows.

Magic:
As with many other generally proficient magicians, Proserpina is reasonably capable of using her mastered bases in flexible ways when needed, but there are several effects she is used to calling on almost effortlessly.

• Quick Change: Accelerated by time magic, Proserpina can exchange the things she is wearing and holding almost instantly; this appears not to be fully controlled on her part, as she cannot use the time slowed from her perspective to do anything else.
• Light Show: Why bother asking them to get the lighting just right when she can do it herself? This effect causes a cacophony of colorful lights centered on Pina, potentially disorienting other beings in the area. Music and sound effects not included.
• Blink: A combination of light magic and accelerated time allows Pina to dash past a target at literally blinding speed, a party trick she enjoys doing when in-character as Spider Lily.
• Unravel: Turning back time for an assembled object, she can disassemble it into its constitutent parts, though not removing any marks left or decomposing the individual components further.

Unlike most of the family, his magic base was unknown. Marcus looked up to his grandfather because he was the only one to notice him. When his magic finally manifested, he was ecstatic. He went to show his parents who only looked at him in horror as his magic wasn’t Light, but rather Darkness. His parents would throw stuff at him and call him things like “Monster” or “Evil Spirit”. He had no choice but to run. As he continued to run he bumped into his grandfather. At first, he thought he would assault and berate him just like his parents. Only for his grandfather to reveal that he too is a Dark Mage. Ever since then him and his grandfather would live with each other away from the rest of the family. The Grandfather would then train Marcus to master and control his magic. One day his Grandfather said to him: “Marcus, you must enroll in a magic academy as there will be a day that I might not be able to teach you. I also want you to show them that darkness isn’t something to be afraid of. That darkness can be heroic.”
