SELF-MADE RECLAIMERS
Worlds slip away from the crucible of mankind like the trickle of sand between fingers agape. The xenophobic collection of aliens known as the Covenant started their campaign to crush humanity underfoot seventeen years ago in 2525. The Covenant are fervent followers of their religion revolved around a long dead race called the Forerunners and their legacy in the form of artifacts. Among these artifacts are the Halo array, massive ring-planets that serve to annihilate the Flood, a parasitic alien race that lead to the extinction of the Forerunners ages ago. To the Covenant, these rings are the markers of a religious path known as the "Great Journey" in which devout followers will ascend to greatness and godhood. Among discovery of the humans during the First Contact event at Harvest, the humans are revealed to the Covenant holy leaders: the Prophets, to be directly related to the Forerunners. In order to keep the Covenant intact, the Prophets ordered the mass extinction of the human 'heretics'.
Harvest was the first to fall under the overwhelming weight of the Covenant Empire. With the Covenant's superior technology, firepower and numbers, they bombarded the planet with their fleets and powerful plasma weapons and began the scorch and burn campaign known as "glassing" that the human race would soon become painfully familiar to. The outer colonies of mankind were first to go as Covenant ships slowly began to uncover more and more planets inhabited by humans. Each of these planets would face the same fate as Harvest and become marred by the Covenant war machine. In order to safeguard human secrets such as Earth and further protect inner colonies, Admiral Preston Cole of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC), enacted Emergency Priority Order 098831A-1 or best known as the Cole Protocol. In case of detection of Covenant forces, all UNSC stations and ships must purge sensitive data and even self destruct should capture be imminent. Failure to comply with Cole Protocol results in life imprisonment or execution, being charged with the crime of treason.
You, the soldiers of the UNSC, are among those that are the forefront of the human struggle against the Covenant. You, the brave men and women that swore to protect humanity in our darkest hour, will be remembered as saviors. You, those who lift their weapon courageously at the face of defeat, will stop the trickle of sand that is humanity's ticking seconds left in this galaxy and show the Covenant that humanity is not a flame that can be extinguished.

CURRENT YEAR: 2542
ONI and the UNSC alike are in disarray. Colonel Ackerson, having been recovered since his capture by a brute commander, has now revealed to the public his previously undercover SPARTAN-III program in an attempt to increase humanities morale. Once the controversial SPARTAN-II was initially unclassified, it was seen as questionable and possibly immoral. However, no one could argue with it's results. Considering the dwindling amount of the living SPARTAN-II's. As well as Alpha and Beta companies of the original SPARTAN-III program being completely wiped out; humanity was grasping for answers in the ever growing threat of the Covenant.
What was being shared with the public, was that this will be the first group of SPARTAN-III's ever to be produced. Unofficially, they gathered adolescents who had become orphans because of the Covenant war instead of resorting to kidnapping. The spooks at ONI felt it would be better to continue to keep the previous projects a secret, mainly for that reason. Not having the time to raise young children now, though, ONI and UNSC changed their strategy and combined efforts to create the SPARTAN INITIATIVE. A program that allows military personnel to be pushed for promotion by their leadership to receive the infamous SPARTAN augmentations. The advancement of technology since the last projects allows a more lenient acceptance range. The eligible DNA matches are higher, certain personality traits are no longer automatic firewalls.
The ODST were a clear choice for being swept through first. However, a lot of them have an acquired hate for SPARTANS. A common sentiment in the atmosphere throughout training. Most refer to the SPARTANS as Test Tubes and derogatory terms of the like. Those who have had the privilege of fighting with one, however, usually come back with a sense of respect for them. That's not something that can necessarily convince the rest of the branch who haven't met one. Nor the those who have only seen them portrayed in negative light, however.

The fight against the Covenant is still raging and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. A large expedition force is currently gearing up to assault a Covenant war base on the planet Herracus VII. Intel reports say they are building some sort of super weapon. No further details could be collected. It will be the job of the ODST and marines deployed to the planet to destroy every trace of the base and its super weapon, as well as recovering any valuable Covenant technology along the way.
As an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST), you are deployed via a Single Occupant Exoatmospheric Insertion Vehicle (SOEIV) to the battlefield. The shock value of rapidly inserted infantry from orbit is paramount to the UNSC strategy of quickly responding to the looming Covenant threat. ODSTs are commonly dropped deep in enemy lines and far from UNSC resupply lines. Therefore, an ODST often carries more equipment, ammunition and supplies as they may go extended periods of time without receiving extra supplies.
The drop pod is deployed from standard UNSC ships and houses one soldier and their equipment. Their smaller profile and rapid entry velocity make it difficult for enemy AA fire to target the drop pods. However, this makes entry dangerous for the ODST. Helljumpers, as they are nicknamed, receive the namesake partly because during atmospheric entry the inside of the pod becomes sweltering due to friction. The dangerous nature of drops in general means that only one soldier is assigned per pod to limit causalities. At roughly 3000 feet from the ground, a drag chute is deployed to slow the descent of the pod. On the ground, the pod has two exits. The first being the front door which explodes outward upon release and the next being an emergency escape hatch on the top of the pod.
This is where you come in, soldier. As an ODST, you have a responsibility to defend the human race. With SPARTANS or not, you're the best we have. If you pull this off, your higher ups might recommend you for promotion. You have to survive though, of course. Now get geared up and...
GET READY TO JUMP INTO HELL!
