Realistic or Modern SEEKING Disney or Musical/Era rp

Hey all! New to the site and still figuring things out, but wanted to send out a call for a (preferably) long term partner for a 1 x 1 rp.

I'd love to do either a Disney rp or something based loosely off of a popular musical (Phantom of the Opera, Fiddler on the Roof, and Grease being my favorites). I am also interested in an era-rp, either 50s (think Grease, again) or a Civil War rp.

Please let me know if you're interested! :)

Hey! I've been looking for someone to do a Phantom of the Opera role play with me. I'm looking to do one that is loosely based off of the original storyline. I've done a couple in the past that ended up being an almost exact re telling of the original story and that sort of thing is no fun to me.

I think I'd like to keep the general plot line and setting in tact, but I also want to put some imagination into it and really make it something new.

I'm ok with using canon chactacters, OC's, or even a mixture of both. Maybe we can do sort of a role reversal plot if we use canon characters to kind of switch things up a bit. Or anything that's gonna make this fresh really. I'm not too picky. I just want to have fun with it.

Also, a few things about me and how I like to role play. I'm fine with threads or pms, neither bother me so whatever works best for you will work for me. I typically prefer to play male characters and usually stick to a MXF relationship (should the role play start to head in that direction). However, with a one on one like this I am absolutely willing to double up some characters and play side female roles. And with side characters I don't mind exploring MxM and FxF relationships. Just preferably not with my main character as I'm not as good at it.

So let me know what you think! If you're interested at all we could map out some details together. Just let me know! :)

Awesome! I'd love to hear about what you're thinking of for a loosely based RP... did you have something specific in mind for a plot?

I've thought about it for a good bit and honestly I can't think of a whole lot. However, I do have a couple different plots thought up that could work with either canon characters, OC's, or a mixture of the two. Keep in mind these are very basic beginnings to plots. I haven't had anyone to brainstorm this out with so I've been struggling to come up with something new.

- Childhood friends rp where we can use canon characters (or not) and give them a completely different backstory. This opens up the possibility for new a new narrative to happen within the story once they somehow "reconnect" within the opera house. This could also be worked on so that it's more detailed than just "the main characters were friends as kids, were separated in some manner, and found each other again at the opera house". We could take it to where they find themselves crossing paths at different moment throughout their lives and the "main action" happens to take place in the years spent at the opera house.

- Role reversal in the sense that, if we used canon characters, it would be Christine (or a female OC) "haunting" the opera house, and Erik (or a male OC) would be the performer who end up coming in contact with her. This would just have to be detailed out a lot more in order to keep from slipping into the original storyline. Again, character backgrounds could be altered and the narrative can be changed greatly.

Those are the most basic beginning to plot ideas I have so far. As you can tell I haven't been able to brainstorm very well by myself. And I'm not set on either of those, so if we come up with something completely different, or alter one of those plots in any way, I won't be bothered a bit. I'm desperate for sugguestions at this point haha!

Also, I have a question for you. This may help us plot things out. Are you familiar with the movie version of the original story, or the book, or perhaps both? I'm familiar with both. The only reason I ask is because we could also choose to delve into the book narrative a tiny bit when it comes to back stories and such. There's a lot in there about Erik especially that is not talked about in the movie or the stage version of the story. I feel as though some of it would be fun to play around with and meld into a different story. Also, some of the book characters might be fun to use if we use some canon characters.

Anyway, let me know what you're thinking. If you don't really like either of those ideas and want to stray further from the plot than those I'd be happy to come up with something original with you. I'm sure between the two of us we can make this interesting.

I'm going to take tonight to think on it some more and see what I might be able to come up with.

Ok so I came up with a more detailed plot for the childhood friends one that would allow us to use canon characters, but with a twist.

I thought about altering the background of Erik some and, should you wish to role play as Christine, you could alter her background as you wish.

My idea for Erik started with this:

Have you ever read Victor Hugo's novel The Man Who Laughs? (P.S. -Forgive the incorrect punctuation. I'm having trouble using italics and such on the mobile version) Anyway, in that novel it talks about the main character being kidnapped as a child by a group called the Comprachicos. This term was coined by Hugo, however groups like these did actually exist throughout history. They would kidnap children and physically disfigure them and send them to beg for money or use them in performing acts to also draw in money. When they no longer needed them or they were too old they would just leave them behind.

I thought this would be a good place to start. It gives a new background to his disfigurement rather than saying he was born that way. Also, it could lead into how he would meet Christine so young. Perhaps we could go along and say if he was taken by a group like that and is discarded (or escapes) later he would begin to wander in search of shelter/food/work/etc. Perhaps he runs into Christine's father and, therefore, Christine herself. We could decide the story from there.

The other main plot point for this that I had was if they reconnect at the opera perhaps it could be played off as Erik is not as demented as the original made him seem. Traumatic events at such a young age would result in some sort of PTSD and would explain any violence or anger he may have later on. However, it still keeps that darker side of him intact so there can be plenty of conflict because of it. What I'm thinking is kind of like a personality switch for this sort of thing. Not in a literal sense, but in a way that Erik isn't fully the bad guy here. Actually, depending on how you'd like to change Christine and her background (if you're interested in playing her that is) I thought it might be interesting if her father had inherited or purchased the opera house at some point in his life and after many travels Erik sought him out to reconnect with him (perhaps because of the kindness he provided when Erik was young and needy/ or maybe out of anger even if her father is played as cruel rather than kindhearted in the original story) and in his bad health he allows Erik to take care of him in secret and when he passes on he gifts the opera house to him. (For one reason or another, that could be decided later. I was thinking for the purpose of giving it to Christine when she's ready for something like that) perhaps her father also request that he watch over Christine and make sure her talents don't go unnoticed. This leads to him owning the opera house, but having managers to run it because obviously he cannot appear in person.

My biggest plot point here is that the managers could turn on him. Obviously it's known that Christine is the only person who trusts Erik (in this version at least because he's being honest with her this time and actually putting her best interest first). So, based on the stories spreading through the opera about "the opera ghost" the managers set up accidents, inconveniences, and even deaths and frame Erik as the culprit. Thus, successfully putting Christine in a position to distrust him and turn her back on him. And when he has no one to believe him or help him anymore the managers hit him with the fact that they want this opera house for themselves and demand it to be given to them so it can be sold. Or whatever reason we might come up with.

The little details can all be altered. My main point with this kind of storyline is that Erik has huge issues, but isn't the bad guy. He's looking out for Christine and he actually gains her trust (partly because she knew him when they were young). They are driven apart by the managers who are in it for the money. We could even add in Raoul, or even an OC like him, that could team up with these managers for money or just for the sake of winning over Christine, or both. A character like that (someone close to Christine that actively keeps in touch with the managers, telling them details about Erik that Christine may only entrust to Raoul because she trusts him) would help push the plot along and give the managers the information on Erik that they might need to "take him down" so to speak.

Anyway, none of this is set in stone. It's just an idea I had with actual detail. We can do something completely different if you want. If I forgot any details or if I think of anything else I'll post it later. In the meantime, if you have any ideas please feel free to let me know! :)
