The prideful kingdom known as Phonurith has a serious problem when it comes to the gender's power balance.
The males of this kingdom have it on the easy mode, because of their natural strength and intelligence. In fact, you can call them gods, since that is how the people of Phonurith keep treating them.
The females, on the other hand, aren't so lucky like the males. They are treated like toys for the males, and some situations for them can be extremely dangerous. They have no power to stop this madness unless they are in a position of power. Even then, the females in power usually fail to stop this behavior.
As for the royal family, they want a boy for this reason. They locked their daughters away from the rest of the world, because they show weakness.
The second child of the royal family is a special case, since they may or may not have powers. If the second child of the royal family is a female. Treat them like the devil they are, especially if they have powers. If it is a male, they will be the kingdom's hero.
The Phonurith kingdom's view on superpowers is strange. They think of superpowers as a cheat, despite liking how powerful they are. The people of Phonurith want actual strength and intelligence, and for some reason won't accept super strength or super intelligence powers. This includes Princess Ember's fire manipulation, since the people of Phonurith don't count that as true strength.
