Sea breeze

Emily swam happily under the crystal blue waves of the ocean she came up and peaked her head out seeing the beach shore just a quarter of a mile away...the surfing zone...she smiled and looked along the sand curiously before swimming closer to the dangerous place especially for her...

Gregor sat on the ledge of his back porch gazing out at the surfers. He was used to going with his uncle Peter but Peter was out on a business trip so Gregor hadn't gone out since he left.

His mother suggested he'd try it out for himself but he didn't want to when there were many around.

When everyone had left, Gregor got out his surfboard and ran to the beach, surfed out and waited for a wave.

The wave drew closer so he paddled with it before he jumped up. He was nervous since this was his first time alone and quickly he fell off his board and the wave carried him around. In the chaos he sunk down in pain as his legs seemed to stick together.

Emily was under water and she saw someone sinking she went to go save him coming from below she knew this was crazy but she did anyway oushin him back to shore she quickly swam a ways away and watched him to make sure he was ok

Something dragged Gregor and soon he felt the sand from the beach between his fingers. He opened his eyes and looked out at the sea before him and caught a glimpse of a fin disappearing into the water before he heard his mother call out to him. He looked up at his house and saw his mother running towards him.

"What happened?" He said and rose up.

"You fell of your surfboard."

Gregor looked down at his hands and freaked out. His legs were all covered in fading scales.

"Mom! Mom!" He called out in terror but his mother seemed calm.

"It's alright, just calm down. Gregor calm down." She hugged him as the last of the scales faded away.

"We need to have a talk." She said and helped him up and up to the house.

"My father is a what?!" Gregor shouted at his mother who he thought to have gone completely out of her mind.

"A merman." She said as calmly as she could.

"What?" he said and buried his head in his hands.

"It seems you've inherited a few of his... abilities, I guess you can call them." She said unconfidently. "He told me this might happen when you'd touch water but since you never changed I just thought you didn't inherit it."

"What?" Gregor looked confused and frustrated at his mother.

"Your fin Gregor. The scales you saw earlier. If you don't believe me just try it yourself." She insisted and handed him her class of water.

"Get that away from me!" Gregor shouted and knocked the glass out of his mothers hand. The glass fell to the floor and broke into tiny pieces.

Gregor ran out and away from the house and his mother decided to let him go.

Gregor ran out to a secluded area near the ocean. It had gotten dark and the moon glittered on the ocean waves.

He sat on a rock but didn't really know what to do so he cried.

He looked down at the water and thought for a moment. What if she's telling the truth? he thought and reached down towards the water.

Emily watched Gregor underwater she saw himcoming down to touch the water and she swam closer to the surface to get a better look at his face

When Gregor saw his own reflection in the water he hesitated. What if she's telling the truth? What am I then? He studied his reflection but decided he had to find out the truth. Better to find out in private instead of with other people. He reassured himself and reached back out and touched the water. Nothing happened right away but he still kept his hand in the water. It wasn't until he felt a sudden small jolt of pain rush through his body that something happened. In his surprise, Gregor fell in and transformed.

Emily was almost to the top when Gregor fell in on top of her she squirmed out from under him and flicked her wrote while clenching a fist turning invisible she swam in front of him watching him

Head first, Gregor fell into the water head first and harshly hit something in the water. He grabbed his head for a split second before looking down at his feet that were changing in front of him. In shock, Gregor gasped only to realize he could breath in the water.

He was in such a state of shock that he didn't even realize he'd been sinking until he touched the bottom.

At this point, Gregor didn't know how to feel. He didn't know if he should be excited, scared or angry and so he just swam for it. He had to be somewhere no one could possibly find him. He swam out to the little rocks just out of sigh of the beach and raced himself up onto a rock which could barely peak out of the water.

Emily curiously followed him her left shoulder was sore where he had landed on her she watched him get on a rock and she his on the other side of it she became visible again

As he sat on that rock, Gregor closed his eyes and listened to the small waves softly crashing on the other rocks around him. The moonlight vagely lit the ocean around him and calmed him down.

Just when Gregor settled back, he heard a sound that didn't fit in and he jerked his head towards the sound.

"Is.. Is anyone there?" He asked cautiosly. Oh what am I asking? Of course no ones there, I'm in the middle of nowhere. Gregor though and shook his head.

Emily flinched and went under the surface making a small splash, then after a little bit she came back up she peaked at him. Cautiously she went back down and swam in front of him then poked her head out of the water right in front of him

Gregor flinched back when a head poked up out of the water right in front of him. He tried to cover his tail but couldn't, so he dove into the open water next to him. He however immediately stopped after he looked back at her and saw that she too had a tail.

Emily ducked underwater after him and when she saw him looking at her she held up her hand and flicked her wrist clenching a fist and she dissapeared

In his desperation, Gregor quickly swam towards the girl as she dissapeared.

"No, don't go!" He called but she dissapeared completely. Gregor swam to the rocks next to them and rested his body against the rocks.

Emily swam up and around him lookin him over then she reappeared and peaked out from behind the rock her golden hair waving in the gentle current

From the corner of his eye, Gregor saw something so he turned towards it. It was the girl again.

"Please don't leave again." Gregor said and turned with caution.

"You're a.. a mermaid right?" He couldn't believe he was asking her since this morning he thought they were a myth.

Emily nodded she swam out and looked him over then smirked and said " I'm Emily Windsnap "

"I'm Gregor Finnick." There was a slight pause before he continued. "Have you always been a mermaid?" He asked but blushed right away when he realized what he had just asked. "Im so sorry, that was a foolish question. It's just that.." He paused again and drew his tail close to his body. "I didn't really know mermaids existed."

Gregor dove back into the water and quickly came back up. "Well, no matter really, wanna take a swim with me?" Gregor asked with a huge smile on his face.

Emily bit her lip " please don't tell anyone I'm out here, or this close to the mainland " she said hoping he wouldn't or she would get in a lot of trouble

"Who would I tell? It's not like I'm going to be telling anyone about this anyways" He said and looked back at the beach.

" Good " Emily smiled and grabbed his hand she turned and began swimming and with one flick of her tail they jetted off with her dragging him along she watched bubbles go by

Emily stopped and when the bubbles cleared she was smiling and a thin wall of kelp was in front of them she looked to Greg and said " I want to show you something "
