Scroll of Ivy [Webcomic] [Exalted]

Now that I finally get around to reading this, aside from the high barrier to entry, it's pretty fun.

Not without rewriting the entire first arc or adding an even earlier arc, because it kind of relies on you knowing about Exalted and Exalted isn't the most accessible game out there.

Exalted is a complex setting and fully understanding it involves reading an awful lot of books. The best you can do is not worry too much about accessibility--target fans of the game as your audience. Keychain of Creation could appeal to newbies but only because it was silly and not at all representative of the actual game.

A serious story in a serious, complex world will be tricky to get into. Embrace it.

I do have thoughts on a prologue chapter, a simple, but useful chapter. I tried a few pages as a prologue, but moved them to my extras folder because it was too much of an info dump.

So, if you have any specifics, might as well write it down to give me direction if I plan to do it or not. My thoughts were to keep it simple, and introduce these concepts in a very broad sense:

  • Gods give power. Different flavors from different Gods. Restrict it to that simple.
  • Myst is a shapeshifter. (It can be something out of left field if you're not expecting it.)
  • Characters' names. I was particularly bad about this in the first chapter.
