It's the fictional time period in which the game is set. It's been in Exalted coypright notices since forever.

Trying to work out how Fair-Spoken Rishi’s orichalcum superheavy plate costs him 3 dots of the artifact background. Given that people are saying alchemicals will be using the same version of the background as jadeborn (3 dots of artifacts per rating), I would understand if it cost him 2 dots in the background... maybe its just another error in Scroll of Exalts?

Maybe it's a different artifact that Fair-Spoken Rishi affectionately named Orichalcum Superheavy Plate, after a suit of Orichalcum superheavy plate he used to own as a young start-up.
