Mankind in its present state has been around for a quarter of a million years, yet only the last 4,000 have been of any significance.
So, what did we do for nearly 250,000 years? We huddled in caves and around small fires, fearful of the things that we didn't understand. It was more than explaining why the sun came up, it was the mystery of enormous birds with heads of men and rocks that came to life. So we called them 'gods' and 'demons', begged them to spare us, and prayed for salvation.
In time, their numbers dwindled and ours rose. The world began to make more sense when there were fewer things to fear, yet the unexplained can never truly go away, as if the universe demands the absurd and impossible.
Mankind must not go back to hiding in fear. No one else will protect us, and we must stand up for ourselves.
While the rest of mankind dwells in the light, we must stand in the darkness to fight it, contain it, and shield it from the eyes of the public, so that others may live in a sane and normal world.
We secure. We contain. We protect.
The SCP foundation was founded to protect the world. From the anomalous, from the dangerous explainable. Anomalous creatures and entities, known as SCPs are contained within the many sites of the foundation. Site 19 is one of them, and perhaps the largest. You do not have to know about the SCP foundation prior to this roleplay, but it definitely helps.
The staff of the SCP include the Class-D, the Researchers and the Security Branch.
The Class-D are criminals of terrible accord, sentenced to either life-time imprisonment or execution. These criminals are given to the foundation to be used by researchers to test on SCPs, so that perhaps oneday they may be understood. Class-D are considered expendable by the staff, a philosophy the foundation has ingrained in order to remove staff of any ethical holdups they may have when sending Class-D to their likely demise at the hand of monsters.
The Researchers are the scientific minds of the foundation, ranging from botanists to Quantum-Engineers. Focusing on understand the SCPs, they conduct tests using Class-D and manage the containment procedures and information on the SCP information files.
The security division is the force behind the foundation, keeping the rowdy prison block of Class-D in line while supervising researchers in tests to insure safety. They are seperated by this group, and the MTF. The MTF (Mobile task force) are stationed off-site, and are called in specifically to deal with a containment breach of SCP(s) nature. They are specially equipped to deal with most dangerous SCPs, and have specialized methods of dealing with each individual one, each MTF unit being designed for a specific purpose or to counter a specific entity.
Overall, Site-19 is the largest site of the SCP foundation. Disguised as a military nuclear testing facility in the desert, the majority of the facility is underground, hosting a wide variety of SCPs, research labs and prison blocks. As the site has just experienced the first staff-shift in half a decade, new researchers are ushered in to take the place of researchers moving to other sites, resulting in plenty of new faces in every division. While there are veterans to teach any newcomer, it is a frightening and intimidating experience for any person. This shift has also accompanied the discovery of several new SCPs, which are to be stored in Site-19.
Welcome to the Foundation, Newcomer.
