Scion or Exalted?

I am looking to start up a new game, and I'm debating between two different concepts.

First is a Scion game that I ran for a while and had Archived called 'Bureau of Paranormal Defense'. Since the game board is already set up, all I would need to do is have the dust brushed off and have it made active again. The premise for this game is that you are all members of an internationally sponsored anti-monster group that, according to the public records, is a anti-terrorist task force. You would all need to be members of some government agency such as the FBI, KGB, MI5, Mossad or some other alphabet soup that has been assigned to work in this new team, thanks to the work of your divine parents. Somewhat like Hellboy, you will be sent around the world to deal with 'terrorist threats' with the mission to keep the Overworld War out of the public eye.

The second idea I'm tossing around is a redo of my first PbP game Lunar Fury. It is a Exalted 2.5 game where all the players are Lunar Exalts. For some reason, your particular Exaltations have been held away from Creation for many hundreds of years and now they have all reappeared. The Silver Pact suspects that there is some great purpose behind this, and all the characters have been sent to train with a old Full Moon to teach you how to tap into your powers. This game is only taking Lunars; no other kinds of Exalt need apply.

I am looking for 4-5 players that can post on a weekly basis. If you are unfamiliar with the system but are interested in playing, I can work with you on making up a character if you are willing to learn, so newbies are welcome here. Once the game concept is settled on, I'll post details on character creation so people can whip up their submissions.

I could do both, but I'd much prefer Lunargame. Though I wonder how an amnesiac quasi-chimeric Lunar would fit in.

Both ideas sound great to me though I would lean more towards the Lunar option but that is mainly from being a Lunar fanboy. So yeah interest here for both options.

Would we be able to use the existing Scion characters, or will you be rebooting from scratch?

Though a newbie to Scion and Exalted, I am familiar with (old) White Wolf. I am in for either game, assuming there is room (I am the 6th in line to post on this thread after all).

It looks like Scion won the toss-up, but I will probably end up running the Lunars game anyways, just because I put so much work into it before and it was such a blast. lol

Ok, lets talk game crunch and setting info and see exactly who is interested.

The group will initially be set in England, but you can expect to be traveling around the world as needed. Your Godly parents have pulled strings in your lives to put you into a position that you can be selected to take part in (officially) a multi-national anti-terrorist group. Unofficially, you are the first field agents for the Bureau of Paranormal Defense, a organization dedicated to the protection of humanity from the things that go bump in the night. In order to qualify for this position, your careers were steered into a path that is either military or government in some way. Most of the people you have worked with in the past will not know your special status as a Scion unless you tell them, but someone knows about you and has pulled strings in your life to put you square in the middle of the Bureau. Characters can be from any government or military you choose, such as the British Special Air Service or MI5, the American Delta Force or Navy Seals, FBI or CIA, Soviet KGB or GRU, German or Japanese military or intelligence services, et cetera.

Due to the intense training and focus of your chosen professions, you will be starting with extra dots in your skills and attributes. Instead of 8/6/4 in your Attributes, you will be starting with 9/7/5 in stats and 35 dots in Abilities instead of the standard 30. Everyone starts with Legend of 3 for free, and it CANNOT be raised during character creation, leaving you more bonus points to dedicate to the rest of your sheet. All the Pantheons are allowed except for the Atlantians and the WW2 ones, leaving you plenty of options to choose from.

@Dannigan, in case you are not aware, Scion is a game where you are a literal child of a God from some mythos, so Thor or Aphroditie can be mom or dad. There are many different Pantheons to choose from, including the Greek/Roman, Asgardian, Japanese, Chinese, the Loa (voodoo), Celtic, Egyptian, and many others. The books are available to download, but I don't have any problems making up a character for anyone that does not have the books but still wants to play. Just let me know basically what your character does and who your Divine parent is, and I can work up a good character for you.

How do you feel about house rules? Such as Perception and Epic Perception adding to Marksmanship damage, or some way to compensate those who prefer the gods that only have a few favored attributes and purviews?

Epic Perception will add to Marksmanship in the same way that Epic Strength adds to Melee and Brawl damage. Once you've hit, you add the extra successes in to make it a little bit more even for those that want to go through combat with a sub-machine gun blazing away. As for the choice of gods that have a few favored purviews and attributes, I am hesitant to make any changes there. There are enough gods that are allowed to choose from that you can probably find one that has a good selection of powers that are favored to work with.

That's the point. The choice of Divine Parent should be guided by fluff, but having wildly different usefulness n terms of number of powers makes me tempted to base my choice at least partly on that.

Hmmm. I am willing to work with you on your choice to try and make it more even. I just don't want to go overboard and make it unfair for everyone else.

What a good choice for starting location =)

Well I shall blow the dust off my Scion books and put a couple of concepts together as I have a few ideas for this one.

@Sherwood how do you feel about some fan-made alternate versions of the pantheon specific purviews to make them a bit more balanced or interesting. The ones I'm referring to specifically are Tsukumo-Gami and Jotunblut. The former in particular fixes the glaringly exploitable level 3 power, and the latter balances out human-ish servants and beastial servants, and gives the Aesir other neat stuff.

Cool. I'm glad you're giving this concept another try. Can I play Melanie again?
You'll need to redo your math on her, since I'm starting off with more points, but go ahead.

Scion eh! I think I'll pass on that - not very inspired for Scion on the moment, although I'll keep an eye out for the houserules here. Anything that fixes the oh exploitable RAW is good.

I have put in a request for the Mods to bring the forum out of mothballs, but I don't know how long that will take to put back together.

Like I said, I have a feeling that I'll be running the Lunar game too. Just give me some time to get settled in with the Scion game.

When you do, I may be excited. Single-splat games tend to keep people from stressing about relative power levels so much.

@Sherwood. This sounds like fun. Count me in as I do my research on the game. And thanks for having me! =)
