Farseer of Ulthwe
You fancy me mad. Madmen know nothing
What the purpose of this is, you select a song, be it a song from an actual singer, band, OST, etc. and use to create a short scene to give it an atmospheric feel. I'll start.
Overview: Francis Wayland Thurston (narrator of H.P. Lovecraft's "Call of Cthulhu") is being driven to madness, as expected.
Song: Metallica - Dream No More
Start:
[Silence]
Francis sat in his room, alone, he believed. He hadn't slept in days, fearing the horrible dreams of unspeakable horrors, and the a strange chanting in an abstract language. Yet somehow, in his mind he heard the words clearly: Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn.
He had taken up the bottle, in hopes he would forget the horrors. A vain hope.
[Song Begins; 00:05 to 00:41]
Francis doses off for a moment, and in that moment he sees . . . Him. A creature so horrible, the thought of Its very name brought madness on the most strong-willed of me. He drops his bottle and it shatters. He opens his eyes, yet he sees nothing. Only darkness. A blackness so dark, it cannot be described without shattering one's perception of reality and driving one insane.
[00:42 to 01:05]
And yet in his blind state, the darkness forms into a shape. The shape of the dreaded creature that haunted his dreams and waking hours. It reaches out its terrible hands, the shadows shifting with every moment. The Creature's presence caused the very darkness to scream. The shadows writhed and cried in a horrible suffering.
[Lyrics begin; 01:05 to 01:42]
Francis fell to his knees grasping at what would be the flooring, trying to find something, anything to stop this. He felt nothing. Not even the wooden boards he stood on moments before.
[01:43 to 02:24]
He crawls back, yet as he retreated, the Creature only moved forward. He was everywhere. He was everything. Francis stumbled about, and his hands fell on a broken shard of glass, a piece of reality still in this darkness. The Creature, He was toying with him. He grabs the shard and gouges his eyes out, in hopes that he may never see the Creature. Yet that hope, too, was in vain. His gone, he still could see Him, writhing and . . . laughing. He screamed and no sound could come out. He kept screaming, trying to do so louder and louder, yet all he heard was a terrible laugh, from all directions. From . . . from within himself.
[02:24 to 02:30; "Screen" turns to black as the music distorts and slowly shifts to a laugh; then silence]
[End of Scene]
So, that's the basic idea, give it a try yourself, if you wish.
NOTE: It's better to read through the story first, then listen to the song and read the lyrics until the 02:31 mark. Once you have done that, you can visualise the scene with the music.
