A Knights Rest - furnished hotels and apartments complex

The rattling of the noon mag-rail train was a disorienting thing for Ix to wake up to. Her throbbing headache beating in the old adage that you get what you pay for; in this case, not much. Annoyance at her housing was pushed aside she finally noticed the soft red glow indicating a received message from her work posting, she activated her internal comm link nearly unconsciously.

Hey there babe! I hope you're still keeping your nose clean now that you're out. One of my clients who I occasionally provide supplies for mentioned that he was looking for someone familiar with computers and I knew you were looking for work. I've attached the details to this message if you're interested, if the pay is good you should come by my shop and invest in some new ink.

Robin hit submit on her forum post with a satisfied smirk, this would make jsantos67 think twice before posting his infantile grasp of the Greek dialectic influences on modern philosophy. Robin had been enjoying her recent down time, although the months worth of rent money left behind by her former teammates when they fled the country in the stolen jet was nearing it's end. not enough room in there for a gnome? Likely story. The incoming message icon flashed on the corner of her screen, she clicked on the message while trying to remember where the name seemed familiar from.

Robin,

The disappearance of the bulk of your colleagues has left me somewhat shorthanded. I'm assembling a new group since I still have a lot of work that needs done. If you are still looking for work I've attached a map back to my lab, please be there by 0900 on 8/4.

Sheltim pressed the elevator call button while putting away his ID with a sigh. The doorman still didn't recognize him and this daily ritual was getting old fast. While the elevator counter softly dinged its way towards the lobby a newly arrived message began scrolling down Sheltim's left contact lens.

Misaki idly tapped a finger against her chin as she perused the restaurant's menu. It was going to be tough making rent this month if she wasn't careful here, but it was important to make a good impression with the people she planned on meeting. A short vibration from the pocket of her suit jacket informed her of a message from someone on her high priority list. A quick glance around to make sure no one was going to bother her and then she hit replay on her comm-link.

Misaki-san,

Someone was interested in hiring our services, however he was not paying enough to make it worthwhile for our boys nor is it likely he needs anyone that skilled. We told him we'd send someone as a sign of good will, perhaps we've found a use for you now? The details are attached, get whatever pay you can but we're expecting a slight gratuity of course.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thread open! You've all received information regarding a potential job. The meeting will be the next morning (despite my initial date screw up) Decide if you're going, and if so what if anything you'd like to do before then, as well as how you plan on getting there.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Finally, some action. Work's been slow, and it's about time. I've got just enough time to get some sleep before the meet.

Sheltim waved to Rolex, his Watcher spirit, as he entered his apartment.

I wonder what I'm getting into this time... was the last thought that ran through his head as it hit the pillow.

Morning: Sheltim grabbed the keys to his bike, and soon he was on his way to the meet.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Robin stared at the name for awhile before remembering who it was. Content to see what was up, but less so about the early morning Robin set an alarm and headed to bed.

At least the cool morning air at 70kph was good at waking her up. Parking her bike, Robin headed for the lab. She was about ten minutes early. She wanted to get a view of the new hires on their way in.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

As Ix crawled into bed, she glanced at the clock. 6 am was definitely too late to be going to bed when she had a meeting at 9 the next morning, but she'd gotten caught up playing around with a new program she'd picked up. She was definitely going to be cranky when her alarm went off in 2 hours.

The next morning, after listening to her alarm go off for 45 minutes, Ix finally rolled out of bed. Damn, she thought, I'm gonna be late. Good thing I fell asleep in my clothes. At least I don't have to take the time to get dressed. Ix ran her hands through her hair, attempted to smooth the wrinkles out of her jumpsuit, and threw on a pair of sunglasses to hide the bags under her eyes. She jumped on her scooter and headed out.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Misaki started to open the details to get an idea for where she'd need to be. It'd better not be another lame baby sitting job for some suit's hot-shot kid. The meet and greet address wasn't anywhere in the recognizable metropolis area.

That's a relief. Perhaps this will finally be a chance to actually use my art. Though that could be a bit of a drive, guess I better rent a hybrid in case I drop off the grid. Perhaps one of these days I should take Priss up on her offer to teach me to ride a bike..

Looking back at the menu while her comm started suggesting rentals, she selected a healthy portion of sobe. Better not show up with too empty of a stomach. Who knows how long I'll be out there.

None of you will have any problems following the directions you've been given. Sheidow lets say you dropped 100 credits on a rental vehicle. Leslie you'll be arriving first, katie last. The destination is a once abandoned bunker built into the hills outside of Seattle. There's a small guard booth and parking lot out front. You'll be meeting inside the directors office which is in the main doors and past the receptionist. You'll be waiting in the lobby area for a few so this is a good time to scope out the others and give physical descriptions etc as you describe your arrival.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Sheltim parked his bike and walked in to the lobby, eyeing his surroundings with curiosity.

An office in a bunker, eh? A nice pretense, but I wonder what else might be in here. At least it's comfortable.

Sheltim checked in with the receptionist and sat down in the waiting area. A quick glance at the other(s) in the waiting area, and then he closed his eyes and took a nap.

Let's see what I can see astrally...

A nondescript man is sitting in the lobby. The only thing remarkable about him is how unremarkable he is, and your eyes quickly slide off of him. His head is leaning back against the wall and his eyes are closed. He is wearing plain clothes and a jacket. While you can tell that his jacket is reinforced, he appears to be unarmed.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Ix rushes in, out of breath, after everyone else has arrived and has been waiting for a few minutes. She announces herself to the receptionist and sits down, looking relieved to have made it before the meeting starts. She runs her hand through the pink spiked hair that covers half of her head; the hair on the other half looks more natural, long and black and braided. She's on the small side for a human, probably about 5'2" or 5'3". She wears a wrinkled jumpsuit, and if you look closely you will notice two of her tattoos. One is a pink and green butterfly on the back of her neck; the other appears to be some sort of glyph on the back of her left hand. She sits with her arms folded and if you make eye contact with her, she'll sort of glare back at you.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Misaki gives the guard a friendly wave as she pulls up, discretely checking for a name tag or badge for later reference. She takes in her surroundings as she gets out of the car, taking note of any hidden eyes. Nothing obvious. I hope that just means they like being discrete as much as they like their isolation. This mission definitely starting to get intriguing. Not that she expected any with an underground installation, she does a quick check for astral barriers or watcher spirits while she gracefully approached the main entrance.

The young elf was a little bit surprised to find someone already waiting in the lobby. Partially because she wasn't expecting competition, so hopefully this will be a team member. She was also curious as to why such a young girl would be here, but Misaki of all people knew how looks could be deceptive. A quick word to the receptionist and she went to sit down next the girl. Judging from her sense and the lack of typical tell tell signs that you see with mages or shamans, Misaki guessed she was some form of adept, though she would need to see more to confirm that.

She introduced herself to the energetic girl and continued to make small talk with her to discern where she was from and what her interests were. Fortunately, before she had to seem too interested, their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of a new gentlemen. Misaki quickly sized him up from under the cover of her shades and his aura quickly explained why he was unarmed. A fellow magician? 3 awakened in one place is no coincidence. Now I'm really curious as to why my services are needed here.

To avoid any award interaction with the new arrival that seemed content to sit by himself, she pulled out her comm and began clearing out unimportant messages. A few minutes later, just as she was tempted to start crunching numbers on her budget again, the last arrival swept into the room. A quick astral perception spotted why the new girl seemed a little out of place for the group. 3 awakened and a deckhead - that seems to be an odd combination.. After flashing her a friendly smile, Misaki pretends to check a few more messages while actually setting the comm to run in silent mode, but not until after saving an image of that odd tattoo.

The young elf appears to be in her early 20's and fairly tall, though that's mostly due to her slender elven figure and the fact that she's sitting next to such a small dwarf as she's actually slightly short for an elf. While you might think the Asian looking woman to stand out in this isolated bunker in her chic business clothes, her posture implies that she perfectly belongs there. While her shades don't seem out of place, you might notice that her business garb covers the upper arms more than is typical for females.

[ ooc ] for "spot the heat" rolls, ie, perception/assessing, do you want us to roll that, or will you do it as necessary?

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Robin watched as the others arrived. She tried to make small talk, but she apparently wasn't very good at it. Eventually Sheltim showed up, but he almost instantly went to survey things astrally so she was left with the awkward silence. She sat remembering what she could and trying to figure out what to expect from their host until some.. crazy person wandered in. I mean, this must be a gang thing or something, right? Robin stretched a bit in her seat. Hopefully this late comer's arrival meant their host would finally reveal himself.

---------------------------------

A child-like dwarf not even a meter tall sits in one of the chairs. Her face and features would lead you think she is a teenage dwarf, or a human child. She has reddish brown hair and green eyes. She has a generally cheery disposition, but when she smiles you notice she has fangs. Her ears, usually covered by her hair, are slightly pointed. She wears an urban jumpsuit that somewhat hides a toned muscular physique.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Sheltim, while you're astrally perceiving you'll notice both the doors behind the secretary are warded, and every few minutes a spirit flits through the area. Two of the others waiting in the room are also awakened. Sheidow I'll do that for you any time there's something hostile you don't know about, but you can always roll it yourself if you ever want to try and find things around you regardless of their current potential for danger.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few minutes after Ix settles into her seat the door to the right of the secretary opens and Dr. Warwick waves absentmindedly for you all to join him as he glances at the clipboard in his hand. The man stands slightly above average height and his brown hair is kept at a short buzz, his chin accented with a neat goatee. Adjusting his glasses he looks over the group of you before nodding to himself. "Glad you could all make it, I've been very busy lately and needed an extra set of skilled hands, you seem to fit the bill." He continues to lead you through the facility, technicians sit at monitors and fabrication tables while some variety of environmental suits lay mostly disassembled on workbenches. "I've got a few small tasks for you, nothing too dangerous and most likely a sleeper assignment for people of your caliber. The pay will be fair consider the low risk and brevity of your work record with me. Can I consider you all on board?" His pen sits perched above the clipboard as he watches you all expectantly.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Ix says she'd prefer to have more information about what will be required of her before making a commitment.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

I forgot Robin arrived before me. I would have acknowledged her at least:

Sheltim nods at Robin, glad to see a familiar face.

Sheltim ponders Finister for a moment. "I get a bit wary when someone tells me a job is easy. There's no pizza involved, right?"

Re: Scavenger Hunt

"Interested, yes, but you'll need to tell us what the risks are before we agree to what's a fair price."

Re: Scavenger Hunt

He blinks nonplussedly at Sheltim before regaining his composure. "Erm, well pizza aside I don't think there's any real risk, just some errands I need taken care of that I don't have the time for nor skilled help. Today I need two things done. Firstly I need someone to go to town and finish some purchases with a finicky vendor of mine who insists on a face to face sale, secondly I need some folks to go up to a now abandoned lab I worked at and retrieve some of my old records. Assuming you get those done in a timely fashion I'll need some recruited volunteers to participate in some harmless testing. Perhaps you could find willing people in the slums outside of Seattle." clearing his throat he continues. "Of course more details will be provided if you agree to the work." He taps the back of his pen against the clipboard as waits your responses.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

A pause. A thought. A nod.

"I'm in," said Sheltim.

He turned to the others, "I think we should split up. Who wants to go to the vendor, and who to the lab?"

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Robin frowns a bit. "That isn't really much information, but so long as you can fill in the details I'm in.

Turning to Sheltim, "If spliting up is actually viable I can cover the records retrieval, but I have a feeling this might be the nice sounding version."

Re: Scavenger Hunt

"I'll go wherever there's hacking to be done...I assume that's the record retrieval side of things?"

Re: Scavenger Hunt

Warwick nods to you all as you agree. "Good good, a yes, details." he glances down and begins reading off the clipboard. "Regarding the supplies, I've already got a contact and he has the items, we just haven't settled on a price. You can meet him at his store and just negotiate him down to the very reasonable 20k in credsticks I'll give you. It's some lab equipment, you'll need to be able to transport two boxes, about a quarter meter on a side." He folds over the first page on the clipboard. "The lab is an abandoned research facility, we did some cutting edge work there with awakened animals. I still have the old security codes, however the main line was likely severed when the building was abandoned so you'll need to find a live wire inside the grounds to connect. I've got a list of filenames you should try to recover." he holds out a datapad as he says that. "I can't speak to what risks are involved, however our security was always personnel based, now that it's gone the place could be empty, falling apart, or even have squatters. As I said nothing of consequence for skilled workers. Anything else?"

Re: Scavenger Hunt

"Sounds like a plan," Robin says as she tries to size up Ix. "Hopefully they took those awakened critters with them."

Re: Scavenger Hunt

"Hmph," said Ix, looking Robin up and down, trying to determine whether her new pint-sized partner was going to be more useful than she looked.

Re: Scavenger Hunt

"You said you worked with awakened animals. What's the chance that some of your old experiments are still there?"
