Sailing the Fires: Pirate Role Play

Sen Pai

I'm back, baby.
It was hot. It was almost 90°F - or 32°C, whatever you want - hot, right? But, this was normal in the world we call Volcania. Sounds really cheesy, doesn't it? Whoever thought of the new name for this planet wasn't being very creative. Then again, what else would you call a world filled with magma and fire?

Brushing the sweat off her brow, Rowena removed her somewhat dull red pirate hat and used it as a fan as she leaned against a glass wall. "Why does metal have to heat up?" Rowena complained as she fanned her metal arms, trying to keep them from overheating. It was a painful procedure to connect the wires to her nerves, but it was worth being able to pick things up and elbow people in the ribs. "I paid too much for these things to just melt!" Rowena quickly made a mental note to get that heat proof layer coated over her mechanical arms.

Reluctantly pushing herself off the glass wall of one of the big cities, Rowena glanced around for her best mate. "Vance!" the pirate captain called out in a very lazy voice. Wiping the sweat off her forehead, Rowena placed the pirate hat back on and walked out into the burning sun. "Oh, dear Calcifer! It's hot today!" Oh, how Rowena wished for air conditioning right now. But, nowadays A/Cs are pretty hard to come by.

"Vance! Where in the bloody lava are you?" Rowena muttered, feeling very irritable today. The sun isn't helping either. Rowena looked around for her long time friend, feeling the slightest of frowns appear on her face. It's only been an hour, Rowena. People will come. Rowena released a stressed sigh and massaged her temples. "People will come." Rowena reassured herself before walking around the area, peering around for her friend.

Who was this woman waiting for? Well, Vance Xenia for one. But, there was another reason why Rowena was out in the sun. No, not because she wanted to get a tan - in this heat, you're probably going to get cooked - Captain Rowena Calypso Alvilda was looking for a new crew.

Jayson rushed down the metal docks, ginning the widest of grins. He was gripping a small slip of paper tightly in his left hand, but it was very important. You see, he had found out that a certain 'Captain Rowena Calypso Alvilda' had been looking for a new crew. He had quickly packed his necessities in his trusty heat-proof backpack and had written down the ship information on a slip of paper and took off. Today was his adventure.

Unfortunately, he tripped on the dock and fell flat on his face. He quickly shot back up and screamed in pain, desperately trying to fan his now red face. "WHO MAKES A DOCK OUT OF METAL ANYWAY?! ANYBODY GOT A COOLING PLATE???" After freaking out a little while longer, he decided that, as a pirate, this is the kinda stuff he'd have to deal with. So, shaking off the burning sensation, he proudly WALKED down the dock in search of his captain.

Vance looked at himself in a mirror, making sure he looked professional enough. He had tied his long hair into a neat ponytail and he finally finished putting on his tie. He buttoned up the rest of his shirt, gazing at the large scar on his chest. Seeing the old injury was not making him feel any better. Today was the day he and Rowena were putting together their new crew and he was extremely nervous. Many people wouldn't think being nervous was such a big deal, but if you knew Vance Xenia, it was a very big deal. He was always calm and composed, being nervous just wasn't in his nature.

He reached into his coat and took out the picture he always kept with him. It seemed like it was just yesterday when it was taken. Alfred, Margret, Ulysses, Sam, and Robert, they were all there. 'What if I screw up again? What if I can't protect them?' Vance shook his head and composed himself. 'No, I will be strong enough this time, that's the reason why I started over.' He placed the picture back in his coat, his nervousness gone. He made his way towards where he was meeting Rowena a little ways away. 'Things will definitely be different this time.'

Vance walked around the city, hands in his pocket. The heat cascaded on the area, it was more than likely the hottest day of the year. However, Vance felt none of the heat, his calmness seemingly giving him a layer of ice. He continues walking, looking around for his captain. Soon enough, he caught sight of her trademark red hat. He ran over, smile on his face. "Rowena!"

He stood in front of his friend, scratching the back of his neck. "Sorry for keeping you waiting. I was just trying to prepare myself. After all, we set sail today." He stretched his long arms, getting rid of some of his stiffness from last night. "So, how are you feeling?" He had an idea, but he's rather hear it from her.

Red had been rejected from three crews already, and continued looking for people who looked like the belonged on a boat. She noticed to figures from a distance, both standing inside a glass building and one of them being a strong looking female, fanning herself with a large, red... Captain's hat! Red was pleased with the finding of a crew that definitely wasn't sexist. They were short a few fifty members, but it'd do for now!

Red began to run towards the building, being used to the heat. A normal person of this world would definitely find it strange to see a girl with such white, untouched looking skin, running in such heat. Barely anyone ever ran anymore, because it was so hot, but Red was used to it as she was almost always outside. She ran straight through the doors and turned to face them, skidding a tiny bit.

"Excuse me, miss! Are you a captain?"

"I've sat here for a whole damn day.

Hey people what's with unfair pay

I've got a wife and family too

Okay, we all know that's not true

Cause I'm a girl but whatever can you say?"

Claire sang as people walked by, her guitar case open for the occasional, "throw in some money to a broke but super-famous person." She came up with move's name by herself. A girl came running through, jumping over the case, sending winds that caused money flew everywhere on the ground and Claire got on hands and knees, picking it all up and putting it back.

"Please give me everything you've got

I'm not really asking for a lot,

Can't you make the world go round

And turn the sad face upside down

To broke stars and songs with no plot?"

Serus looked in the mirror, trimmed with what appeared too be gold. Honestly, it was just his best attempt to make it look like it was lined with gold. Serus leaned back, admiring his handiwork. He was in the smallest room of his home, which was a spire, ten feet taller than the house itself. It was a cylindrical tower, as the name suggests, where he eats, sleeps, and spends most of his time. It was roughly twelve feet in diameter, leaving a very cramped atmosphere, but he loved it just the same.

He put his hands on the metal behind him, almost untouched by the heat, it was warm, but wasn't nearly as hot as the weather outside. He looked around at test tubes and other various mixtures, all his poor, failed attempts at trying to make a new chemical that could deliver an instant burst of cooling to an area. He took some vials, sticking them in his pouch on his right hip. He walked down the spiral staircase, only to hop back up to his carpeted area. His feet felt like they were on fire, and he put on his sandals. He hated anything to do with shoes, so he wore simple sandals. He then walked down the metal staircase, opening the door to the main house. He walked through it, opening the door.

"..Serus." Snipes said. (If you get that reference you get all of my approval for the day.) "Don't do this." He said. Serus sighed. "Good day, Snipes." He said, holding up his hand, facing towards the open doorway, right next to his head. His way of saying good-day-to-you. He walked through the door, closing it behind him. The doorknob was surprisingly cool- only ninety degrees for once- and walked to the square. He found the captain who was looking for a new crew and walked towards her, there was already quite a crowd around.. Apparently these would be his crewmates.

Violet slowly made her way down the docks, pulling out a handkerchief and wiping her face every so often. She scanned the boats, keeping her eye out for the Wicked Turnip. Surely the captain would be near her ship. The slightest feeling of nervousness flitted through her stomach. This would be her first time joining a crew. Sure, she'd just be a cook, but that didn't mean she had no reason to be the best damn crew member she could be. With her pride came guilt. Her family had probably found the note by now...

Violet shook her head. There were more pressing matters to attend to. She returned to her search for Captain Rowena Calypso Alvilda, shielding her eyes from the sun. A good distance away there stood a woman with a rough looking, red pirate hat. "That has to be her." Violet said to herself. She began walking in that direction, mentally going over how to introduce herself.
(Serus...Snipes...only thing I can think of is Severus Snape. Which makes me think of Harry Potter Puppet Pals xD love those so much!)

Jayson looked at the names of all the ships he passed by and compared them to the one on his slip. So far, no matches. He was starting to get kinda freaked out when he saw the right ship w ways away and near it, he saw some people. One woman was wearing a captain's hat. Grinning, Jayson began running again and, once again, he slipped on the dock. "Not again!" He cried as he began to slide down the dock, past everyone else, and into a wall.

"JAYSON, at your service!" He said giddily with a grin on his face wen he finally got back over to the captain. He knew that this was what he lived for, he was a pirate, just like the song told him. He only hoped that the ship wasn't super slippery.

(one moment, I need to eat dinner))

Rowena turned to Vance with her trademark silly grin plastered on her face. "Burning hot like a plate of jalapeño peppers." Rowena removed her hat quickly and wiped off the sweat that was accumulating on her forehead. "How about you? It looks like your coming from the Antarctica!" Although, "Antarctica" didn't exist any more, the once blocks of ice are now just a hard slab of rock, the magma had cooled down there and instead of continuing the fiery seas, it really was just a giant slab of rock. Rowena had only heard of the tales about the icy Antarctica. Another reason to find the Stone of Moses.

The captain turned her head to another voice, feeling very happy that someone had enough manners to call her miss. Then again, whoever this person was did ask if she was a captain. Rowena glanced up at her red pirate hat and smirked at the young lady before her. She must want to be part of my crew. "Yes, I do happen to be a captain." Rowena scanned over the woman, examining her body and if she was capable of fighting. She seems fit enough, but how is she so pale? Shrugging it off, Rowena stared down at the woman and raised an eyebrow. "Why?" Rowena raised an eyebrow, hoping this girl meant a pirate captain.

Rowena leaned back and spotted a random blonde man fall on his face. Owch. That's gotta hurt. Stifling a chuckle, Rowena slipped a small amused smirk at the man's misfortune. I wonder what kind of idiot makes docks out of metal. Turning back to the young woman, Rowena waited patiently for her reply.

Seeing the same blonde man approach her, Rowena turned her body to face both the man - Jayson, if he's saying his real name - and the young woman. "Hn." Rowena folded her arms over her chest and glanced over at Vance. "What do you think, Vance?" Rowena tapped her foot impatiently, Vance was always the voice of reason in her own suicidal plans and strategies. He always did have a pretty good intuition.

(Wesley Snipes is an actor, not from Harry Potter. Disney....*plays all childhood memories*. Isn't it Fantasia? no...Tarzan! Jesus. No, he's a freaking woodpecker from Winnie the Pooh!)

(Gah. I had it. :< Why Disney? Why must you use the name Snipes in two movies?)

Violet quickened her pace when she saw the captain speak to various people. Hoping she wasn't late, she quickly stepped in near the group that had gathered. She patiently waited for her turn to speak, as the captain already seemed busy with conversation. She kept replaying her introduction in her head. "My name is Violet Greene, and I have come to join your crew...." It went on in that manner. For a girl raised by pirates, she didn't know much about anything having to do with piracy. Suddenly she hated the intro she'd worked on. Did she even introduce herself? The questions flowed in like a river, making Violet's stomach a butterfly garden. She'd have to be stronger than that... At that thought, Violet straightened and the the nervousness melt away. She was no butterfly-recieving weakling from some shielded region of the world! She'd been raised better. Violet stood with pride, waiting for her turn to speak.

"Please except me into your crew!" She said with a determined expression and a humble bow. She looked back up. "I want to find the stone, and I was hoping that was what you were planning on doing." Red continued to plead. She had to do something to lighten the weights of the deaths of her family and hundreds of servants, and would do anything to join a crew as an equal.

She looked at her competitors, and didn't enjoy the competition, and hoped her goal would outrank theirs.

"Damn you fools you stole my bag!

I'll chase you off cause I'm no hag!

I hope you die in pain!

And rot in deserved chains!

Or come back here all dressed in drag!"

Damn, Claire was running out of "ag" words. This wasn't good at all, because she didn't want to see them dress in drag at all. Ew. She noticed quite a few people were going one of the buildings and thought she'd check it out, beginning to pack her guitar up in her case.

Vance was glad to see that they already had some potential recruits. One was a man and the other was a woman. He chucked a little when the man fell and helped him up. He turned his head to Rowena when she asked his opinion. He observed them, taking in all of their traits. Picking a crew was a very crucial part when starting out and you couldn't afford to take risks.

His eyes bore into theirs, face serious and unresponsive. After a while of looking, he spoke up. "If you were to ask anyone else, you would more than likely get the same answer from all of them. These two don't look like much and it's doubtful that they could be of any use. But," A kind and gentle smile appeared on his face, his analysis over. " I'm not just anyone else. I see a lot of potential here and I'm sure they'll be a great asset." He faced Rowena, still smiling. "However the decision is up to you, Captain."

Rowena pondered for a moment before turning to face the two possible recruits. "Fight me." Unsheathing her sword, Rowena smirked at the two people. "You want to be a pirate, right? So, fight me." Taking Vance's words to her brain, Rowena wanted to see if these people really did have "potential". Besides, they need to learn how to fight if they want to sail with the infamous Captain Alvilda, after all, she does have many other pirates after her head.

Stepping back a few steps, Rowena stood calmly as she waited for the two others to take out their weapons and get into position. Rowena decided not to go easy on them, but she didn't want to kill her new possible recruits, did she? In addition, if she killed innocent people the military would be on her heels again. Smiling nonchalantly, Rowena gripped her sword and cut through the hot summer air. "Come on now!" Spotting a few more people approach her, Rowena did a quick count and found that they would have enough for a small crew. Small crew means we need a powerful crew. Rowena grinned cheekily as she felt a light wind blow through the area, cooling her body down for just a moment.

(Hooray for pilots! Who say absolutely nothing and sound condescending if you interrupt them, in other words, Serus.)

(I'm turning in. Got school tomorrow. I'll try to post in the morning and maybe sneak on during school. good night everyone!)

Violet stepped back at the mention of a fight. It didn't seem to be directed at her, though. Gathering her courage, she stepped forward. She watched curiously, interested in how it might turn out. Then again, there were all kinds of ways this could end. The dagger in Violet's boot seemed to grow heavier.

(you guys have my permission to control my character if needed)

Jayson took in everything everyone was saying. In the end, he decided...he had no idea what was going to happen. He wasn't sure if the man, who was apparently called 'Vance', was insulting him or complimenting him. Nonetheless, Jayson just wanted to get in.

That was when the captain randomly took out her word and told them to fight. Staring blankly for a moment, Jayson took off his pack and rummaged through it, taking out a small knife and a small gun. "I have a knife and a gun, but neither seem very appropriate for the situation...got anything I can borrow?" Jayson didn't mind fighting, but he liked it to be fair. If he was fighting somebody with a sword and he didn't have on, then EITHER THEY SHOULD GET A SMALLER WEAPON OR HE SHOULD GET A BIGGER ONE!!! Or something, he had very acive thoughts.

She held the look of determination in her bright blue eyes, not showing fear or hesitation, but confidence and pride. She kept quiet and took a step forward.

Red didn't hesitate one bit, and was sort of in a trance to think against the captain's idea of fighting in a building. She removed the gun from her back and quickly shot, aiming at the handle in a way that would blow the sword from her hands or chop the blade off. She watched and waited for the sound of a clang if she even succeeded. Red had perfect aim at this moment, so if the captain dodged in a quick enough moment, only then would the bullet completely miss.
