In college, Devon had come to find that the party culture ruled over all others. Perpetually stuck at twenty-three years old, each new location he eventually moved along to would provide a whole new party scene, where he'd blend in and observe the wild activities of humans in their most laid-back habitats. Substances were everywhere, from alcohol and weed to coke and ecstasy - but of course, Dev himself had never fancied such things, not without being mixed with what he could actually ingest: blood.

Even so, clarity of the mind was a blessing, and he was as clear as could be beneath the colorful lights and amongst the crowds of dancing people. Even for casual parties, Devon always dressed to look the best he could; a sky blue button-up shirt had its sleeves carefully rolled up to his elbows, with gray jeans and equally-monochromatic sneakers. Old habits died hard, and despite having a phone on him, a gold watch was wrapped around his left wrist. After all these years, he still struggled to use a smartphone on occasion, but he'd never admit to it. It was simply instinct to lift his arm and check the time instead of pulling out the tiny contraption.

Regardless, he'd gravitated towards some fellow students that he'd chatted with before, a fair-sized group that welcomed him in like an old friend. He kept a polite silence, occasionally tossing out a joke or a comment to spark up more conversing between the humans. Smells blended together, the scents of many humans in one space giving him a very interesting selection to ponder on, like a sommelier browsing a winery. Loud, pounding music caused the floorboards beneath to quiver delicately, enough so that perhaps only Devon could notice. He occasionally would pinpoint his hearing to eavesdrop on other conversations out of boredom, sometimes catching juicy gossip that he had absolutely no use in knowing. Still, listening to the silly things humans worried about was entertaining enough.

"Hey Dev - " Markus, in a voice edged with a slight slur from pounding beers, asked him, " - how come I never see ya' drinkin'? Ain't it boring bein' stone cold sober?" Devon just gave him a half-grin and shrugged. "Dunno, I think seeing others stumbling over themselves is anything but boring. Plus, what is that phrase .. I'm high on life, yeah?" Markus and a couple others snorted and chuckled at his statement, and he put on a smirk. Perhaps, by the end of the night, he might just get a bit of a buzz - but it wouldn't be from just drinking alcohol by itself. No, no, a high alcohol blood content would do him just fine .. if he could sneak it properly.

For the moment, though, he let those thoughts fall by the wayside. The others appeared to be expecting another female student to arrive at the party, and out of pure curiosity, he decided to wait around and see who would be making their appearance.

“Come on !! we’re already sooo late”

A pair of young women walked down the path, illuminated by the street lights they were passing beneath. It wasn’t an unusual sight to see, especially in this area of town; ruled by the college kids. It was safe enough, everyone in this area was more than likely out taking part in their own form of Dionysian escapades. Far more interested in their next drinking game, or strip poker than a peppy blond pulling foward a begruding red head.

Avalon scrunched her nose. She had agreed to this, one stupid night of drunken fun with Sadie and then her roommate would leave her along for the next month. Oh, sweet quiet study time how she longed for it. Maybe a nice coffee, with some caramel syrup and a cinnamon stick. One that wouldn’t be spilt by her dorm mated crashing into her room from god knows where, scaring the daylights out of ava, and demanding she take a break to ‘live a little’. So here she was, arm being tugged out of its socket as she wobbled in her far too high heels, heading towards some house she had never been for a party.

Letting Sadie dress her was also apart of the deal. Regrettably. Most of Ava’s wardrobe consisted of comfortable clothes, sweaters, jeans, the occasional floral dress. None of which was good enough for Sadie’s definition of party wear, resulting in the ridiculously short black number she was wearing, with a matching pair of heels. A slight jingle reached her ears after a reasonably hard tug from her friend, the necklace she wore around her neck. A simple silver chain with a cross, a gift from her religious father before she left for college. It wasn’t something Avalon believed in herself, God’s, magic, the supernatural, she was more logical than that. But it made her father happy, so she found herself never taking it off.

They finally arrived at the location, music pounding through the shut door. Avalon’s throat begun to close up. It sounded like there was a lot of people inside, people that she more than likely wouldn’t know or have much in common with. No doubt Sadie would vanish as soon as they entered, off to stick her tongue down her latest victim’s throat- Markus she believed his name was. He had been around for a week now she believed, much longer than Sadie tended to keep a guy on her hook. Sadie threw the door open, her high ponytail swinging as she skipped inside without a care. Avalon followed along, not that she had much of a choice with the manicured fingers still clasped around her wrist.

“We’re hereee ! I told you she wasn’t boring ! Ava, say hiii

Ava found her hand finally being released as Sadie threw her arms around a stocky jock type figure, Markus, she would presume. The red-head mustered a smile, and a small wave before nervously clasping her arms in front of her. She wasn’t one for being the center of attention, and in the moment eyes seemed to be on her.

“Ah- Hi. It’s - uh - nice to meet you all.”

Not the most confident she could have been, but from what she could observe it seems this group was drunk enough that it didn’t matter. Well, all but one. Her eye’s fell on the blonde standing near Markus, who was now thrusting a drink into her hands- a red solo cup filled with what she could assume was beer. He wasn’t displaying any of the signs of the others, no sway while standing still, no dazed smile, no slurred speech; not that he had said anything of yet. Were all college parties complete with handsome and mysterious strangers ?

She offered a small smile, before raising the drink to her lips, following the cues of the others around her. If she was going to fit in, perhaps she needed to ‘get on their level’, as it were. Avalon did promise a couple of drinks before she could leave. Her lips curled in distaste. Covering her mouth as she coughed, she wasn’t sure if it was the bitter taste of the beer, if she had swallowed it wrong, but that was certainly not the most pleasurable experience. She smile as Sadie eagerly looked her way, as realistic as she could muster, then downed the rest of the beverage. This earned a cheer from her friend.

“Alright ! Avalon’s here to party ! Who’s up for beer pong ?”
