Ruby Text

Stir

ヴィンテージスマイル
A lot of the Fandom RPs are anime based, and therefore it would be good to have furigana support. So like, there's small text above larger text.

Basically [ruby=lol]Laugh out loud[/ruby] for things like special attacks or names or whatever people want.

I believe a lot of that comes down to computer compatibility. Like all other fonts, RpNation can include as many as we want on to the drop-down list; however, only computers that have that particular font type downloaded and installed will be able to see that particular font type. There are very few fonts that are considered international across computers--Times New Roman being on of the few. Therefore, I'm not sure something like this would ever work, because some users simply don't have the capability to show Japanese characters and there is nothing that RpNation could do to change that.

Not show Japanese characters but implement it with English.

Basically allowing ruby text.

So like if I write "Guest" I can have "not a member" written in little letters above.

Ah, gotchya.

Sorry, I got thrown by your first post a bit. I understand what you're thinking now.

Like this (I am using the font size to do this)

He said "..."

Laugh out loud

I just went LOL?

(I did space the 'laugh out loud' but it refuses to space).

In english it'd look like this.

I see what you mean but I'm trying to find the necessity for something like this.

Although ruby text has its uses, between aforementioned compatibility issues and the simple fact that RPN doesn't allow posts in foreign languages and therefore translations shouldn't be an issue, it's not something that will be implemented anytime soon, if at all. In the meantime, using aside comments in parenthesis should be perfectly sufficient for 99% of the users.

Okay, if that's the final decision, that's that, no argument.

As for necessity, I'll take an example from Bleach because isn't that fandom really big in this community?

Either way there's ??? (????????) which is a Quincy move. Which translates to Rain of Light (Licht Regen).

Putting it in parentheses is okay, but it's bulky and doesn't really have the impact people want for a special move or whatnot.

If I put it in ruby text though:

It looks much more impactful and a lot less bulky.

While there is no true necessity, as in the site will not exactly lose anything for not implementing such a suggestion. I do believe that it is something worth bringing up considering how many fantasy RPs and anime fandom RPs exist on this site, as it is a feature that adds significant value.

In essence what ruby text allows you to do is add another layer of meaning to whatever you're creating and by adding a layer of meaning you can add another layer of personalization and creativity. Which is why, disregarding techincal obstacles, it would be a great addition to the site.

I believe the problem is not that it would not be important enough, but that it would be broken for many users, because some computers do not have the ability to load this format, therefore it actually would damage the site (I am not trying to start an argument, just saying so I might get a better understanding of it). It would be cool, but at the moment (and (most likely) the moments for quite a while) not possible...
