Hello, I go by Lord Strongbow in these parts. I'm an Aries and I like long walks on the beach, candle-lit dinners at sunset, and poetry. Wait, wrong kind of Looking for Partner thread. ;P (Sorry, I have a biological need to make that kind of joke whenever I can.)
In all seriousness, I'm looking for some role-playing fun! I'm hoping to improve my writing skills and make some online friends at the same time. But first, let me lay some ground rules of mine (standard forum rules still apply of course):
- Proper grammar is a must. I'm understanding of mistakes in spelling, punctuation, etc., but do your best, please. No text talk.
- I like a paragraph or two of writing for most replies. I say most because it can be a little difficult to make a scene of dialogue into a big ol' paragraph or two. But, if simply doing exposition or other non-dialogue, please don't just post a one liner. That makes me sad.
- Try to post every day or every other day. I work and go to college, so I get busy schedules; please just try to let me know if something is coming up that means you won't be able to post for a while. I understand, I'm a human being too and stuff happens.
- I'd rather not have to say this, better to say it here than not at all: no god-moding, perfect characters who can do everything, or otherwise breaking the story. Yes, your character(s) is a precious creation shaped with blood, sweat, and tears. So are mine. But actions have consequences; characters are injured, incapacitated, and (if story appropriate) die. I say story appropriate, because I prefer to avoid needless character death.
- I'm not a fan of romance. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'd rather it occur organically in the story if it occurs.
- Most of the RP ideas I list below would be rated PG-13 to R in the U.S. for violence, language, and adult references. The rules of RPNation apply for all of those things.
- Feel free to talk to me! I'd like to get to know you besides writing and roleplaying. If you have a problem with anything in the RP let me know. Need someone to vent to, fire away. Want to plan the next plot arc, let me know.
If you have any questions about my ground rules, feel free to ask.
On with the ideas I currently have!
FANTASY/SCI-FI
Shadowrun-inspired Cyberpunk/Fantasy Noir caper (does not need to include fantasy elements if pure cyberpunk is preferred)
It was a run like any other. Get in, grab the data, run. Only your crew turned on you. Guns blazing, cops' sirens whining in the distance and closing. By some miracle you survived – killed your crew, got the data to the Johnson, and got paid. Then you left town and set up shop in the City. It's been half a year since that run, and you've finally blown through most of your creds. Time to start running the shadows again. Genre: Noir, Cyberpunk
Harry Potter/The Magicians meets Neil Gaiman Urban-Fantasy at a University
You were living your ordinary average life of a senior in high school - worrying about prom, grades, graduation, life after high school. You certainly weren't expecting to receive an invitation to a prestigious, if mysterious, university. According to your hurried online research, the David Sinclair Lyceum for Gifted Youth only invites students; no one applies. According to your invitation, the David Sinclair Lyceum for Gifted Youth teaches magic; you've been given the opportunity of a life-time.... Genre: Fantasy, school, slice-of-life
Fantasy meets House of Cards politics
The Glorious Republic has expanded and incorporated a hundred lesser tribes, states, and cities. The military might of the Republic is unparalleled – barbarians to the east and north have never broken the Legions. Life is good. Except something is rotten – the First Consul faces crises abroad and domestic, while factions within his party plot to murder their way to the Consulship. Meanwhile, powerful generals begin to wonder why the Republic is even necessary. Magi plan and whisper of usurping the reins of government and creating a magocracy. Where ambition, power, and lust converge only blood and death can emerge. Genre: Thriller, politics
Clockworkpunk meets Dragon-Clans meets Mecha meets post-World War I meets Final Fantasy-esque magitech
The War ended five years ago, by a storm is gathering. Assault Gears mass on the borders. Traditional infantry and cavalry likewise muster. Airships patrol the skies. The Lords of the Clans, the Fire Wyrms, the Dragons, they plot and they plan as they have for millenia. But that does not necessarily matter to you. You might be an adventurer, exploring lost ruins of old civilizations. You might be a singer, making your way through the clubs of the big cities. You might be a gangster, smuggling alcohol and other illegal substances from one country to another. Or maybe the clouds of war hang over your head, as you prepare to pilot an Assault Gear into battle. Genre: fantasy, slice-of-life, crime, war
ANY FANTASY SCI-FI IDEAS NOT APPEARING HERE THAT YOU'D BE INTERESTED IN ROLEPLAYING, FEEL FREE TO LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR IDEAS ARE.
Before I continue, some notes on fandom RPs:
- I'm probably a bit weird like this, but I prefer my fandom RPs to avoid main characters, time periods, and-or-events from the original book, tv series, movie, or game. My idea of canon characters is probably different from yours and I don't want to annoy or be annoyed if our ideas for how a character would act are discordant.
FANDOMS
Fallout - South Western U.S. only. I'm not a fan of Boston/DC. Sorry!
A Song of Ice and Fire - Knowledge of the books or TV series is fine.
Firefly - I'm no expert on the Firefly universe so please be forgiving if I make some mistakes on the setting.
NOTE: I'm only going to commit to no more than 2 role plays. Partly due to my school/work schedule and also because I like quality role plays over quantity. If you are interested, shoot me a PM or a reply here. I will most likely ask you some questions via private message. These will be on your role-playing history, or otherwise pertinent to whatever role-play you were interested in. If I already have 2 RPs going on I will let you know. Please do not take that as a personal insult.
Thank you for your time and patience reading through all that! I hope to see some of you around in the coming days.
