Help rp "structure"

New Member
Ok, so I'm kind of new to rp so there's still stuff I'm not really sure about.
Like rp's "grammar" kind of.
So here's my question:

Is there a common agreement on how to quote In Game Character's thoughts for exemple, I saw somewher that it would go like that

/ I think this is insensitive /

Do you have an agreement on how to quote action, I get that most of the time it goes like this :

* Takes the cup *

When you're In Game and you want to say something OOC do you use:

[ got to grab lunch come back later ]

And do you have any other rules of the sort ?
Well it's all that I needed to know for now I guess ^^

I don't believe there is a common consensus on how this should be done. This'll vary from RP to RP. Some RPs might even forego the first two and use narration instead. So long as it's clear and fits with the RP's style, I don't think it really matters.

If you want to start a discussion on this, feel free to start a thread in Roleplay Discussion & Advice.

There is no 'standard' format for IC quoting or OOC. It really depends on a person's preference.

For OOC, it could only be done via PM (aka Conversations), in an OOC Thread, or in bracketed ()[]{} text within the RP; usually at the top of bottom of the IC post.

As far as 'quoting' a character's speech, I personally try to go with what my partner prefers. Sometimes it's copy/pasting a character's words and either making them bold or italicized. However, I have also simply just copy/pasted a character's words as it is written into my post and then write character's own reply to that statement.

As far as quoting a character action, same case, it's personal preference. Your example is more towards a scripted format than 3rd person novel style.
