RP Battle and Name

Belongs in that dumpster
Hello people of the interwebs. I'm putting together my very first roleplay and would like to get some help in how I could do and/or improve on somethings.

My roleplay takes place in a futuistic fantasy world. My idea for the plot at the most basic is that a proup of people become rebels and have to overthrow a group of rulers that are spread throughout different regions. I have some classes and how they work.

I just want to get some input on what other classes could be join in the story as well as some ideas on how the combat could work. I also want some input on if or how I could improve the plot.

At the moment I have 8.

Gunner: Adept at long-ranged combat and the use of black powder. They can easily help in battle without getting

too close to the fray.

Mage: Long-ranged magic users. Through their knowledge of the arcane they have learned how to use the elements in and out of battle.

Medic: Fantastical scientist mages that are nearly any team. Combining the sciences and magical arts to keep their team alive and well.

Mechanic: These genius supporters can build battle companions. They can also help to by using their gadgets to fight and buff teammates.

Thief: Swift and elusive. Can reap more rewards from, scavenging, battles, and various quests.

Ranger: Very familiar with nature's flora and fauna. They can easily find their way around forests and other landscapes while using it to their advantage.

Fighter: A strong close-combat warrior. Their great fighting skills prove useful when fighting a foe in close-quarters.

Hunter: Does well against beast enemies and enemies that have been previously fought.

You need a system and a more concrete setting.

I can recommend something easy, but which won't fit perfectly, or something that should do what you want but will require more work.

You wanted advice on dice, right? The system is the mechanical abstraction expressed by the dice to do what you want.

Think of it as a bit like the code on which videogames run.

Oh okay. I see. I've been in a few rp's where where there was a succes rate system, but I'm not too sure if that's what you're referring to.

That doesn't sound like what Grey was saying.

A 'system' in dice rp is like...

"To attack, roll two dice. Your attack succeeds if your score is higher than the enemies two dice rolls."

It's the rules and guidelines how how dice are used in the game. It includes things like ability scores, skills, powers, etc and all the rules that govern them.

Jaye is correct.

Although it's possible to have a dice-free system, and use a resource model or cards instead, cards are difficult to represent online and diceless ones are hard to balance. Heavily, heavily reliant on the social contract, you see.

RISUS is free and effective, simple to learn. Needs tweaking on your part, but it's versatile.

FATE is pay what you want, and one I'm more familiar with. Extremely versatile, very story-focused.

Crucible, linked in my sig, is one I wrote which can be hacked to serve your purposes, but it's honestly a bit harder to learn than the other two and pretty crunchy besides.
