How many days has it been since the kingdom fell? 5? 8? 2 weeks? For Leo, one of the King's top servants, it began to feel more like a year. Kids running around in dirty clothing, women asking their husbands for food, husbands badgering the servants and higher office men for food. The chain should be leading back to the prince but Leo refused to let any one talk to him. He had just lost his parents and the weight of a homeless starving kingdom was on his shoulders. Leo hadn't been around the Prince often and he bet the prince was around his age. The king always regarded Leo warmly, putting less work on his shoulders than the others but taking him just as seriously. Because of this Leo happened to be the only one that felt a little bit of sympathy for the prince. Although, now, he had to admit that he was wondering when the prince was going to spring to action and make things better just as the king had always said his son was going to. The people voted that Leo should be the one to talk to the prince, which was what he was trying to do now.

The prince had his own special spot on some rocks, overlooking a river. The view was beautiful and Leo stopped to admire it before walking forward slowly. The prince was sitting at the edge and Leo sat himself down next to him. There was some awkward silence as Leo was lost for words. He had never talked to the prince before and only heard about him from his father, but the dad was a sore topic at the moment. He cleared his throat and inspected the prince's profile silently. Even though his people looked like hell the prince still managed to look regal and in control, which gave Leo some hope for the future. Leo ran a hand through his own wavy brown mess of hair self-consciously and heaved a sigh.

"I assume you're thinking of some foolproof, brilliant plan to get back at the people who stole your kingdom." Leo said, hoping that it came out as a joke like he intended.

The young prince stared out at the waters he was deep in thought he had lost everything... no not everything the people they stayed with him, but why? He was brought out of his thoughts by one of the palace servants one near his age maybe a year or two older. Leo? Yes that was his name his father spoke of him. He looked at Leo his gray eyes framed in long black lashes stood out against his moonlight pale skin the Princes' silver hair framed that doll like face of his well. "I... have given it thought but no plan would be advised to try," he said his education showing in his manner of speaking. He heald himself well dispite his rather grimm predicament. "You stay by my side so loyaly, why?" he asked he was sure the answer would have something to do with his father the ever charismatic king Numair, he Zekhiromaru was a pale shadow of the great man. I could be just as great! he argued with that thought.

Leo could feel warmth rush to his cheeks. The prince was so handsome and looked much younger than himself, but when he spoke Leo heard confidence and wisdom well beyond their years. Like his father the prince was a born ruler, and when he spoke Leo listened intently. Every word came out smoothly, clearly and Leo was a bit jealous. He had grown up on the streets most of his life and came from bare, callused feet and hard words. Leo swallowed and looked down into the water, his dark, colorless eyes staring back at him. Why was he loyal? Leo scoffed, surprised he even needed to think about it.

"Your father was an incredible man," Leo started, the fact stated in a manner that seemed to be the most genuine he could muster. "He didn't push me away because I was different and he ruled us much better than your grandfather did. The people need someone to look up to, and one of the hot-headed officials would never work. We need a prince." Leo looked into the Prince's eyes and smiled. "We need you."

Zek looked back at him. Need him? no they need his father back; such big shoes to fill. Zek masked his feelings well very few ever knew what the prince was thinking he had gotten quite good at fooling people over the years at court. "Father was an amazing king," he said his voice clear though he wished he could just cry. A prince does not cry in the presance of others, he reminded himself. "I do not think placing me in power is what the attackers had in mind even though they left me alive,"

Leo sighed and shifted around to face the prince, crossing his legs. He was used to giving the king advice, but this was harder. The king had never disagreed with him or doubted himself. "Even if they did leave you alive because they thought you were too weak, wouldn't this be a great chance to prove them wrong?" He asked. He had to fight back the urge to look back into the woods he came from and call for back-up and stared at Zek intently, hoping that the sincerity and belief in Zek would show in his eyes.

Zek looked at him "I am not weak," he was offeneded that he had even said something so crude. Zek looked out at the waters "I am young," He knew he could do things wonderful things, but he would need more then he had, being what he was made things hard his body looked fragile and in all honesty it was the prince couldn't throw a punch without breaking his hand. "I just... I don't know how to fight someone so strong military wise,"

Leo panicked for a second and wanted to apologize. He had not meant that the prince was weak at all, only that the people who killed his family believed so. Being in the princes bad wills would be horrifying for Leo, who had spent his whole life making the king happy. He couldn't believe that Zek actually believed his age would have anything to do with how he fought off the offenders. Leo uncrossed his legs, patted his knees and sighed, heaving himself off of his feet. "You're forgetting how badly the people out there want to go home. If fighting people off will be a problem then I will fight for you on both sides. I can tell you don't want to face your people just yet so I will go out there for you, give your orders and cover for you. Here, as often as we can, the two of us will train like hell. If you are unhappy, so are your people."

With that Leo took a couple of steps back and crossed one hand over his heart, bowing as low as he could.

"Tell the people something for me, Tell them that those who choose to stay with me and follow me will be returned home," he said softly not looking back at his servant. "Even if it costs me my life," the wind blew fluttering through the silky silver strands of the prince's hair. He ment what he said he just didn't know how to make it happen just yet. The enemy was sly and crafty well then he will become just as sly. "Also take the numbers we are up against," he said "I want to know our odds,"

Leo could feel pride surge in his heart. He had talked the prince into action and his people would be reassured in one day. All he needed to do now was find a way to get the message to every one without letting them know where the prince was or why he didn't want to come out. He shook his head and decided he would get to that later. "In the meantime, my prince, you stay here and get ready for a great first lesson in self-defense."

With that Leo was on his way, leaving the prince alone with his thoughts.

Zek wasn't exited about learning to fight his silver tongue was his weapon not a sword of his fists. He coul make poisons and antidotes or weasle his way out of trouble but that was the extent of his skills his body was just too small. He was fragile and he knew it. With a deep sigh he laid back on his rock to look up into the sky how could it be so peacful when he was in turmoil?

Leo finally had the people surrounding him and raised his arms for silence. It wasn't like they were talking in the first place but Leo wanted it to be clear that he was in charge while the prince was busy letting off steam. Thankful that he had not forgotten what the prince said he nodded and began to speak in a clear, loud voice. "The prince is alive and well, of that I assure you, but he wants me to pass on messages to you. It may be a while before you all can go home, but I have no doubt in my own heart that we will all return! With that... the prince would like for it to be known that any one who does not want to follow him may... leave. But," Leo added as some people looked about ready to get up, "the prince says that those who stay will be returned home. Even if it means his life is at stake." Leo shivered as he thought about the eery way the wind blew with those words and there was some muttering. A couple of families, the poor people who are living in the same conditions now as they were before, got up and walked away from the group surrounding Leo but for the most part every one was just as moved as he was with the prince's words.

Leo ran as fast as his legs could carry him. He was excited to let the prince know that the people had faith in him and the idea that he would be back home lifted his feet off of the ground. Finally he crashed through the last of the trees and into the clearing where the river sat. He stopped and panted a little. The prince was laying down and looking up at the sky, so Leo walked closer to him and blocked the prince's view. "I've got good news, my prince." He said, sure the panting in his voice was heard.

His eye's widened a bit and his lips parted in suprise he was unprepared for his musing to be interupted. The softness of the young prince made him look like a doll under the gaze of the larger servant. "I'm glad you have good news," he said softly once he recovered he sat up and looked at his servant his gaurd might be a better word. "What is it?" he asked in his soft way leaning back his hands on the rocks holding him up.

Leo's chest swelled and he cleared his throat, flushed. He hadn't been expecting the adorable manner in which the prince moved and spoke and he was afraid of whatever this feeling might be. He waved it off as another strong surge of adrenaline and excitement, now able to be cheery once more. "Barely any one left, and those who did were people with bad records, so now the kingdom can start with a clean slate!" He didn't wait for the prince's answer and was afraid that the feeling would come back as he stepped back and held his hand out for the prince's.

"It's going to be hard to fight sitting down." Leo explained, smiling.

The young prince visably tenced but took Leo's hand he was afraid but he'd never admit it out loud. "I supose it would indeed be a tad dificult," he said softly letting Leo help him off the rocks, but he tripped landing in Leo's arms "oh..!" he said in suprise; since when have i ever been clumsey? he asked himself even as he rested shocked in Leo's arms he had instinktivly grabbed Leo's shirt in his small hands. "I seem to have lost balance," he said still not completly recovered yet as his hands still held tight to Leo's shirt.

Leo's breath caught in his throat and a smile began to spread on his face slowly. Heat began to prick at the bottoms of his eyes and he knew he was blushing. Leo began to blink rapidly to get over it and grabbed the prince's elbows softly. He treated him like a doll and moved closer to him to steady the small body. "Are you alright...prince?" He asked softly. Leo had meant to ask it in a professional way but the words came out softly, lovingly. The feeling began to swell in Leo's chest again and he panicked.

"I am fine thank you," The prince said though he could have sworn that Leo's voice was different. He steadied himself and looked up at the man he was blushing? No must be a trick of the light, Zek told himself. "I have never lifted a sword before father was going to teach me but decided long ago i was to ... delacate for such activities," Zek informed Leo and the prince was honest he lacked the dexterity to run for more then a few feet much less fight.

Leo stepped back a little and inspected the prince. It was true that the prince was a bit small and Leo nodded. Leo was no muscle man himself, but he was tall and lean enough that he would make an okay soldier in battle. He thought it was from years and years of carrying heavy things and running around for the King. "That will be no problem with the proper exercise. We can start now, but I think I'll need to know how much you can do before we begin." The last thing Leo wanted was to push the prince too hard and be the cause for having no leader.

Zek stood proudly "I am not made of glass," he said though he was just as fragile. "I wish you to treat me no different then another trainee," he nodded if he was to learn he would do it his way all or nothing. He was positive it would not be pleasant but he'd try his very best anyway.

"Are you sure?" Leo asked, staring at the prince skeptically. His determined expression and the way he stood answered Leo's question itself and he shrugged, holding his hands up in submission. "Whatever you say, oh so great prince. You can call me Leo, because of course you're still above me." Leo wondered if the prince would make Leo go easier on him just because he was of a higher status but quickly realized that the prince wasn't that kind of person. "I will, of course, be referring to you as prince. Unless you want to be called something different."

"In private my name does well enough, I am Zekhiromaru ... father often called me Zek," he said not showing the pain in his eyes of his fathers memory. "Before we get on with training... I need to adress my people now that those who are loyal are the only ones here." he said his eyes flashed dangerously Leo could tell this boy was definatly someone to avoid if angered.

Leo nodded, deciding he would call him Zekhiromaru until they got a little closer and he was comfortable with him. Leo was a bit unnerved by the look Zek was giving him and he swallowed, mustering up all the courage he could. "Are you sure you want to do that? I can give them the message... after all they'll bombard you with questions and demand answers." Leo didn't say it but he wasn't sure how much of that Zek could take until he snapped under the pressure. It was important that his prince stayed healthy both physically and mentally. Wait... did he just say his prince? He meant their prince, the people's prince. Leo shivered involuntarily and decided he would let him do whatever he wanted to.

"What kind of prince buckles under his people?" Zek asked "they may ask I may deem it a question to answer or not," he said as if it was that simple the prince was called ice prince at court for a reason after all. "I can not hid from them and expect them to follow me," he stated

Leo nodded. "Fair enough, I won't question you." With that Leo started towards the forest where the prince's people were. He made his way to the large boulder he stood upon when making his first announcement. Many people gawked at him and the prince, since they were not expecting the prince to make an appearance after what Leo had said, and many others bowed to him. Some men took off their hats as he passed and kids pointed at him, whispering excitedly. Leo waved his hand toward the boulder and grinned at the prince, now sure that he could take whatever was coming to him. "Go on ahead, prince."

"Loyal subjects please listen to my words, I prince Zekhiromaru have decided that the time of mourning is over and it is time to take back what was stolen," he said clearly to the croud. "I see a few of you are sceptic of the abilities of a young man but i assure you I am as serious as my father and i will get you all home. I will need your aid though. Alone we will fall together we stand tall and strong each man woman and child here has something our enemies lack! We have eachother," he said watching the crouds reaction. "And even if i die I will have a leader chosen to take my place to asure you sent home,"

Many people perked up with Zek's last sentence and Leo began to listen more intently than before. One buff man standing towards the back grinned smugly. He was the top of chain of soldiers and obviously the most worthy when it comes to strength. He lusts after money, blood and women and he is a bit arrogant most of the time. He never fights for the people like the other soldiers do, instead he fights for his own reputation which he seems to be able to carry with those broad shoulders. "Who is this leader prince?" He asked from the back and many people rolled their eyes at him, knowing he only wanted to hear the prince say his name.

"Prince Zekhiromaru said if he dies, not that he will die. He's a great prince..." Leo barked and then looked down at his feet, slowly letting himself look at the prince. "Who is this person though Prince Zekhiromaru?" Leo asked quietly.
