Hello, so I've been slowly digging into these forums, and I noticed this little rule right here. Now, this disappointed me. I have a few interest checks floating around, and I really wanted to get specific and targeted advice from people who might genuinely be interested in giving some. Surely Roleplay Discussion & Advice would be the ideal place to discuss your roleplays, and get advice. Not that I don't understand this rule, because if it wasn't in place people would just appear to be in need of sympathy and advice as a front to get attention to their roleplay. Or some other mishaps. So, if you will, allow me to propose a few amendments to the Roleplay Discussion& Advice section:
- The easiest proposal I can suggest is clarifying this, but also keeping it vague enough for discretion. Something like: Egregious "linking" and "advertising' is strictly prohibited, if this is believed to be in a thread, it will be dealt with case-by-case. -- Now obviously that goes for everything on RPN, but putting that more specifically here if this amendment were to be made would likely limit backlash from butt-hurt dudes who got their thread pulled.
- A more permanent and low maintenance idea would be making a sub-section in the sub-forum specifically for roleplays and interest checks that have gone past the "official interest check" phase. This would nullify a great deal of the responsibility on your behalf, seeing as what would users expect to be in a roleplay and interest check advice section other than roleplay's interest checks, and advice about them. Of course a quip that maintained the ideal that advertising was prohibited would be great too.
Obviously the best place to get "advice" on your roleplays and interest checks is in their respective area. But the commentary from member's there isn't exactly always helpful. This part of the forums is dedicated to advice, and people dispense genuine feedback there. So cordoning it off is just saddening to me. I was told to make a suggestion thread for this. My other option was to inadvertently subvert my topic to make it allowed there by "discussing the attributes of the roleplay not the roleplay," "just mentioning the game idea" because the worst it would be "is moved," or ask for tips on how to "GM something with 'X' attributes." And well, as you can see I chose to make the suggestion thread. Because that just isn't the help I was looking for.
