If we did stop playing this, and even Sherwood's Rifts game, what might take its place?

I, for one, am watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003 series (at the behest of a Real Life buddy of mine whose love of the turtles is, I find, contagious). But I would be surprised if anyone wants to be in a campaign involving Palladium martial arts and all.

I am not going to be in any hurry to jump into a new game unless I am quite excited about it. If there were a TMNT-ish game with martial arts, I would want to know more about it before committing myself to it.

Likewise. I am... not hot to run a third game when my own two games are not as busy overall as I would like (they are busy at the moment, which is very nice).

I certainly don't mean to recommend the idea that we close both of these games (I mean, GunMan2 hasn't even seen this yet). Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself.

Yeah. I still feel like both of these games just... run too slow. I want something that I'm very interested in, preferably in a system and world I'm familiar with. I can see the two of you (Psychie and Sherwood) are happy on the Exalted: Abyssal new-car-smell (and may you have much fun there!). I can see there are already issues with the 2.5 vs. 3.0 system and all that, but I really would like to play a game like that - one that appears very fun for the long-term (like Sherwood's recent UEEF game that we're all involved in).

Are there other realms and worlds all three of us would be happier spending our time in?

To be honest, I don't know what would hit me in that sweet spot of needing to be in a new game. A different setting for a Rifts game might be interesting; looking into some of the different settings that have not been explored before. Psyscape, the Three Galaxies, Wormwood. Stuff like those. Or a 'Escape from Atlantis' game, using the full martial art powers that are described in the Rifts Conversion Book, be them the Body Hardening Techniques, Chi combat, or the Zenjorike powers.

I hear that. Chi Combat and Zenjoriki began in Eric Wujcik's terrific Ninjas & Superspies game. While the latter have Rifts conversion, did Palladium ever make such changes for Rifts to Chi Combat? Yang vs. Yin, centering the mind, nature-given Dragon Chi, Negative Chi infection, and all that? To my knowledge, that is entirely Ninjas & Superspies territory.

Back when I was running Rifts (tabletop), the Gang there had a series of incredible adventures in Rifts Japan (Good Times!). There, I was able to both draw upon the rich and eye-opening Japanese culture and combine it with the spirit that only Rifts games seem to have. There was a delicate balance to watch there, but those were games like no other.

There is enough in Rifts Japan alone to hold interested parties there for years. Kitsune? No problem. The ghosts of souls forged into samurai swords? Been there, done that. 9 million spirits under the Goddess of the Sun? Each a jewel. But I feel with martial arts becoming little more than MMA matches, phony practitioners being caught for the fakes they are, and the masters of old either dead or getting older by the day, I feel only few players can go from being interested to invested in a martial arts oriented game. Mine is a narrow path, but I walk it happily.

That could be very interesting. I'll have to think about this idea. I might see myself diving into this.

If I were to do a new game, I would want to do something different than I have done in past games. I'd have to look over the books to see what options are available in the Japan region..

Well, if either of you are set on running such a game, I'd of course recommend Rifts Japan as a starting point. But the rest of the Palladium Rifts books focus mostly on China. However, if either of you need any resources on the martial arts, Asian philosophy, or just plain neat inspirational stuff, let me know. =)

Hmm. A Japan/China based game, using the full mystic martial arts from Ninjas and Superspies. I need to do some reading to come up with a plot hook for a game like this.

So... both of you are open the possibility of running a Rifts game in Japan? Or at least one with martial arts in it?

At the risk of sounding formal, may I offer my expertise as an advisor on the subject matter? I would run the game myself if I thought it were wise.

I like the idea, I just need to think of a proper hook to be able to pull together a group of random adventurers to work as a team.

Yeah, there is a need for a overall plot that would be interesting to the assorted players. Why are you working together? Are you employees of the same mega corporation that have been tasked with an assignment? Are you free agents, meeting together for the first time? What are you supposed to do?

One idea that might be cool is a Ghost in the Shell/Silent Mobius style game, where the group is a government team of borgs, Dbees, magic users, monks or something like that with the martial arts training as a supernatural police force.

Psychie Psychie

I'm well familiar with Ghost in the Shell, but what is Silent Mobius? Why do you like it?

That sounds alot like cyberpunk red and alot like a much darker themed game. Not really familiar with many systems outside one i gmed. Oh and dannigan the feeling is mutual

IIRC, Silent Mobius is a police group that gets called out to fight demons and critters that go bump in the night. I've read some of the manga, and it is pretty cool.

GunMan2 GunMan2 Thanks! =)

I have GMed both Cyberpunk (2020, not Red) and Rifts and I feel Cyberpunk is the darker of the two. Rifts tends to be somewhere between light-hearted and grim.

When Psychie or Sherwood run a game that's how it usually stays. I don't remember the last time it got seriously dark and bloody (if ever), but I'm quite okay with that. Both of them have a similar gaming styles.

I feel what you've experienced here with Psychie's Robotech game is largely the same feel you would get in her other games.

How interested are you in what we're talking about here?

I've seen that you have a character in Sherwood's Robotech game, but you have yet play him?

Her and most of the time i actually don’t have anything to remind me like i have at home. Im not sure if rp nation has some sort of app or a settings were i would get notifications if someone posted anything in the game. Moat of my notifications are emails and i don’t check them as much.

As for the game? Im not sure what the system or the creation process is rift games takes me some time to make a char as there is alot of stuff i need to add. So before i decide id like to see the system first and have a read

GunMan2 GunMan2 Rifts is the same system as our Robotech game here - Palladium! =)

As for getting alerts, I have just made it a habit to Bookmark each of the games I'm in and not rely on the Alerts. =)

Kaiju Cat Kaiju Cat Heya Kaiju Cat! *waves with enthusiasm* RP Nation says you are viewing this thread? I remember you from Parrot's Phonograph, a wonderful thread if there ever was one (not to mention Parrot! He is fantastic!).

Well, right now we are starting to discuss the possibility of a Rifts China/Japan-based game, using the same basic Palladium system that the Robotech game uses.

I am looking at the Rifts Japan book, and I like the location of Hiroshima as a starting point. For those not familiar with the book, Hiroshima and a large area around it vanished at the time of the Great Cataclysm for a period of 300 years, during which only three days passed for the residents of the area. This has given rise to the (new) Republic of Japan that consists of the three megacities of Hiroshima, Kure, and Iwakuni as bastions of high technology and science.

Taking a page(s) from various manga, the players would be a mystical response force in the city, working together to stop supernatural incursions in the city. This opens up the possible character classes to be any from the Rifts Japan book from the samurai and mystic monks that have been recruited to serve to cyberninjas and cyborgss with high tech guns and armor.
