Risus - SCP Foundation RP, Secure.Contain.Protect

Silver Samurai

Magic Eight Ball
Hello Everyone,

I was interested in running a SCP Foundation RP using Risus. The SCP is a Indiana Jones , Warehouse 13, Eureka style repository for wierdness set in the current age that is mostly oblivious to how wierd the world can be. The idea is for it to be mainly a minimal rolling , RP/Exploration game set loosely in the SCP universe followed by occasional bouts of Helter Skelter when everything goes wrong as shapeshifting (but only in the dark) people sized centipedes come to nom your face or other SCP object interactions.

The Characters:

Its really gonna focus arround Class D personal , aka the expendibles. A strong emphasis on slice of zany life in the mad house until finally they ratched up the mad a level and you either die or die terribly. Mortality is not a goal as far as the D class personal go, but I'm going to be doing my best to tempt some not so bright actions, create drama and put some plot in the slice of life.

The Game:

Risus is the anything RPG. You can find it here: http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/risus.htm

Basic characters, I'm not decided on all the sub rules but basically you have stats from one to four. When you try to do something you roll that number of six sided die, add them up and compare to the target number which will be between 5 and 30 as determined by the gm. There's some variant rules but we can cover that later and again for large portions of the game the emphasis will not be on stats so much as navigating and exploring the SCP foundation.

Hope some people are interested out there. As far as Canon goes, the game is attempt to respect the SCPwiki but loosely. Not all the items will be in the game, The emphasis will not be on the 'insert' characters from the descriptions but on your pc's.

I like risus because its in a lot of ways the final evolution of W.E.G. d6 system. It also helps that its based on their Ghostbuster RPG, I really don't think you can get a finer pedigree then that. Again, the game is going to be divided into two main phases, a very rules light exploration/slice of life style phase and a combat/horror/wtf phase.

But yeah, if we can get the bodies, I would be very excited to run this for people.

So, generally, you want people to draft death-row inmates and profoundly punished former researchers who will be thrown at fatal monstrosities?

The death-row inmates comment fascinates me. What kind of people usually get scooped up a Class-D personnel?

Sounds interesting, but will we have to reroll our characters after certain in-game time because of "termination" shenanigans? Or are you using another headcanon for that euphemism, such as it meaning memory wipe and reassignation?

Hey guys, sorry I had to step away a little due to Work and the weather dropping almost 3 feet of snow on us in 3 days.

My initial Idea as far as the 'Termination' of D-Class personal would be either 'promotions' to a provisional or permanent C class due to issues or shortage of manpower or a combination of brain wipes, artifact effects and shenanigans to keep liked characters arround and just basically keep D class personal as an easy way to introduct new characters .

I could understand if the players wanted a 'No DM Kills unless agreed to by the player', its annoying to have and build a character and then get him gibbed by jumping on the wrong pulse of the teleporter swimming pool or something. Perhaps a simple 3 strike rule (Where you get 2 strikes where you would get to keep miraculously or not a character who otherwise would have died to SCP bullshit).

But yeah, I want likeable characters that stick around more then 30 days, but a certain amount of PC mortality is expected (and used to allow people to change characters etc rather then as a punishment or anything).

Sorry again for the delay, but if you guys are still interested, I would put up a proper thread for it and see if I can hack RPNation.

Man, I wish I could RP this with you guys... I love SCP. I've never been any good with dice systems though and it just confuses me. That, and I would want to play SCP-682... I've done many RPs as it, and it's fun to write. I love the challenge it presents (not the OP of the beast, but the way it thinks, responds, etc). I wish you all the best of luck with this!
