The world leading to the Fall

The year is 2043 and History in this world is very much the same as it is here in ours except for the past 90 or so years. Mankind has always sought Power. But In this world they have found that It is not wealth or influence, it is not armies or steel. However true power has been within man since the beginning. Magic And The Metahuman gene have been forces in the history of man for time immemorial, and in this world the existence of both is a bonafide fact confirmed by scientists, historians, and those who still to this day live with such sources of power. Hercules, Odin, Anansi, Horus, Chernobog, and almost all mythological figures Were real beings who were human and had magic or metahuman powers. Yet oddly the existence of such things did not change the way history flowed for mankind, after all it was just another weapon we could use against each other, so nothing would he too different, at least not until the year 1971. It was at that point that the Events known as the “four horsemen” would occur.

In 1971 the Earth was hit with an invasion from an extraterrestrial force. The Kiratēn species. A race of grey skinned aliens with gene editing technologies that would allow them to program their own species with abilities on an as needed basis. They would come to earth in search of mankinds metahuman gene which they saw as a means to upgrade their own ability granting techniques, and use the remaining population of mankind as genetic stock to rebuild their dying species. Seeing mankind as a violent and brutal race that would not be able to be reasoned with the Kiratēn species instead would make an effort to conquer the planet. While initially they were able to wreak havoc on the planet, mankind was not technologically capable of competing with them. They would come to find the human race was a good deal more capable of defending themselves than they thought. Across the world people would gather behind Metahumans and mages alike and take the fight back to the invaders. The Kiratēn would respond by sending their elite forces to target the leaders…but this was a part of the plan. While their best were out slaughtering our worlds champions, our best warrior was sent to the mothership in an experimental low tech balloon craft, once on board a bomb crafted by the worlds most intelligent man was used to blow up the main ship. This would cause the gene alrering devices in the Aliens to no longer have the signals from the main craft stabilizing their mutations and over the next 48 hours the Kiratēn invaders would all succumb to their own technologies drawbacks. However their invasion would leave a lasting mark on mankind. Almost 1/4th of the world had perished in the short few weeks the kiratēn had been here, and the destruction of their main vessel would leave a cloud of the gene editing material around the world for decades to come. The Chemical compound remnants of the Kiratēn motherships explosion had a unique response within the human genome. It increased the rate of superpower by nearly 1000x going from an average of .008% of the population, to a staggering 8%! Granted not every power was great, but still the diversity of abilities made it nearly impossible to properly deal with the growing issue of Superpowered criminals. As a result We began to see a rise of Masked vigilantes. However it wasn’t until 1986 that the public got to meet one, the first official Superhero, Eternal The unbreakable man. After him many many more Would come. Mages hoping to bring notoriety to their arts, Magical creatures trying to make a better name for themselves, Metahumans seeking to use their powers for the greater good. Within less than a decade these hero teams we’re dismantling corrupt governments, crushing criminal syndicates and occasionally clashing with equally powerful villains. Even the Return of the Kiratēn proved but a minor inconvenience as their return vessel was smashed before it ever had a chance to return. Markets and the culture shifted, heroes took the place of celebrities, pushing actors, athletes, and activists to the sidelines. It would turn into an industry, arguably beginning to rot away at the integrity of superheroes. In 1993 a university was made so that heroes could train and be sponsored by companies and organizations seeking to use their fame for their own financial benefit. Which would eventually result in the retirement of Eternal the unbreakable man, leading to the end of his career only a decade after it began. Warning of the coming threat of superficial and irresponsible heroes of the new generation he would hang up his cape and return to his normal life. Yet in the shadows something was brewing.

In 1999 the world was Shook out of its hero worship and comfort zone and would never really return to it. On November 3rd 1999, a villain by the name of Arbalest managed to smuggle the components for a powerful hydrogen bomb into the Hero University, there one of his subordinates constructed the weapon and blew the academy to kingdom come. Only a few survived the blast, and this bombing would announce the era of dangerous villains teaming up to slay heroes and their families in their own homes. Of course this would change the dynamic, no longer was this a contest of powered individuals fighting crime or trying to satisfy their own desires. This became a war, a battle of life or death. The casualties and collateral from their battles began to rise, and with heroes falling left and right, public support for them began to wane. Heroes began to be coopted by the militaries of the world and villains who were captured were affixed with Masks that would trap their mind in their subconscious and allow them to be remote controlled as though they were a video game character. Eventually the villain Necros would force Eternal out of retirement, and he would join the united states government in rounding up villains. But the damage done to the world was irreparable. Nearly 70% of people were in Some way affected by the growing tension.

Eventually it would come to pass that the growing conflicts between superheroes and their villains would become an untenable situation and the leaders of the magical community were forced to take drastic measures. Many of the worlds top tier mages all poured power into a ritual, one that would remove the powers of the vast majority of the metahuman community. This was to be achieved by making a deal with a god from another dimension… yet this god turned out to be a devil. The ritual he taught these mages actually opened a portal to his dimension one where hell ruled supreme. The hordes of hell would come and slay nearly 4/5ths of the world. Heroes and villains alike would join forces to face this threat and the military’s of the world would dump their arsenals on them. During all the chaos the tides of battle turned. A dangerous villain known as Dr. Omega would hack his way into control of the Governments Puppet Masks and in one swift maneuver he would secure reign of the earth. Sending a masked Metahuman with Vibrational dimension hopping into hell, he would overclock this metahumans powers with a cocktail of gene mods and narcotics causing his power to rip holes in the hell dimension and collapse it under the weight of adjacent universes. This universe was the source of the Demon kings power and with it gone he too perished, the forces of earth were able to scatter the demonic armies and those who did not flee into hiding were slain. With the final horseman having ridden the world was primed and ready for a period of hopeful rebuilding.
IMG_1365.jpeg

The period of hope never came, with the world on its knees from so much tension, Dr.Omega would easily take it. He captured Eternal and his teammates, along with most superhero teams, even the mages found themselves on his list. Worse each one captured would usually be another Puppet masked soldier in his army. Those who for whatever reason could not be dominated by the masks were sent to prisons where they would be experimented on until they would be executed. The rest of the world’s population would be rounded up and placed in giant cities that were built by this superhuman army almost overnight. It took less than a year to conquer the entire planet. A planet he has now ruled for nearly 20 years.

Yet his rule is not without challenges. Rebellious groups rise here and there with varying levels of success, though to date every one that has reared its head was subsequently crushed. Hope however is a persistent bug, one thats nigh impossible to Crush.
