The Grand Aldmar Empire
With forming of the empire and coronation of Talid, a golden age followed with great works of art and advancements in both magic and technology. The capital of Thinos was considered one of the great wonders of the world. However Talid never married and so had no official heirs, what was worse Talid was womanizer who father many illegitimate children. So when he passed at the age of 250, succession crisis soon followed as Talids illegitimate children stepped forward as his heir and risked starting a civil war. Anera, Talids advisor and closest friend since the start of his adventures, sought a way to avoid war. Through various backroom dealing including the Talidian Cult, she managed to avoid end the crisis by having Talid recognised as a Diety and the eternal emperor. The empire will be run by a council of the empire's wisest people which at the time were the Order of Wizards. Thus magical rule of the empire began and remained still up until a few years before the cataclysm.
The Cataclysm
The empire lasted for hundreds of years, in those years it had suffered rebellions, plagues, dictators, false prophets and other crisis but it endured. Key to it success was its use of its citizens with innate magical ability, anyone like that were taken by the state at a young age as form of taxation of the empires territories. They became Therians, the loyal elite of the empire feeling the role of crack troops to some of the highest positions in the empire. Trained hard, highly educated and loyalty to the empire born into their minds. They have been the solution to many of empires problems and maintained the power of the magical council.
However as technology progressed, the empire entered an industrial age, factories sprang up to produce new consumer goods and weapons. Coal increasingly became the fuel of the empire over magic and the cities expanded as the population grew. This growth meant more of nature had to be turned up other for its resources or to make space. This led to unintended consequences. Though population grew the amount of mages born actually decreased as the years went by with that the number of Thelians dropped as well. Thelian were more valued but also more corrupt as they began to realise there importance. The meddled more and more with council affairs for their own gain preventing reforms and a results the empire suffered.
The corruptions of the Thelians lead to anger in the populace. In addition the new technological advances of industry meant things were cheaper and requires less manual labour to produce. More people became educated and ideas formed. Soon rebellions and uprisings began to spring up more and more, some fighting for independence other for a particular forms of governments. These rebellions started to succeed as they were no longer peasants with pitchforks but now were armed with guns and cannons, and the empire had less resources to fight them. It was not long that the empire was on the brink of collapse as the capital was threatened.
Than the Cataclysm occured, how is not known but it began at the capital whipping it out from the east of the earth. What followed was darkness as magical storms, hurricanes and tsunamis battered the empire. The death toll was in the millions and the land left was irreversibly changed. People survived however they could from caves to cellars. Any mage caught in the storm was changed either driven mad or turned into monsters. This lasted days until the storms began to slowly dissipate and it was safe enough for people to walk the earth once more. Everything they new changed forever and this new world was more hostile than ever as thought the storms have eased they did not end.

The Aldmar Empire was an Elven empire that once stretched the entire know world. It formed by the Unification Wars lead by the legendary emperor Talid. Talid was born a minor noble the Elven Nation of Alteria, known for its court intrigues and plots which Talid fell a victim of. His family had angered the wrong people and had been subject to assassination condoned by the elven king. Talid was the only survivor who ran away into exile and starting a successful rebellion against the king and later the rest of the world. A capable tactician and powerful wizard Talid, he become renowned for being unbeatable and his exploits have become stuff of epic myth. So impressive that that a cult was born around him, claiming he is a god made flesh, soon after his coronation as emperor.
