Overview
The NCIS OSP Chameleon Team lives and works in a series of 5 different trucks, which contain everything that they might need to do their job well. The 5 trucks have names: "Meller," "Panther," "Fischer," "Oustalet," and "Jackson." For those wondering about the names of the trucks, each truck is named after a different species of Chameleon. These buses travel together, but often take separate routes which leads to less conspicuousness- someone the team takes turns driving "Meller," and the other trucks are driven by official NCIS drivers. Each truck is designed to blend in as best as possible, and so are decorated with company names and logos, giving them the appearance of mere delivery trucks.
These trucks are just as important as the human members of the team- without them, the investigation would be greatly hindered. They are what allow the team to travel from place to place, they give the team a home, they provide the areas for the agents to do their jobs, and so much more.
OSP: Chameleon "Meller"
Don't let it's looks deceive you- while OSP: Chameleon "Meller" is disguised as a Pepsi delivery truck, it is anything but. "Meller" is the heart and soul of the personal lives of this team, containing living quarters, a kitchen, and other communal spaces. This is where the team spends time while traveling from place to place, often for days at a time as they traverse the country. This is where the team goes to sleep at night, and wakes up in the morning. It may not look important on the outside (unless you really like Pepsi), but "Meller" is arguably the most important truck the team has.
The "bedroom" section in "Meller" aren't a four star hotel, or even close to a hotel at all. It's a small area, packed with bunk beds that fold up when not in use. Each bunk bed has a small nightlight attached to it, in the event that one wants to read or even just find their bed in the dark. Next to each set of bunk beds are two lockers, where agents can keep their personal effects and clothing. Each agent may choose what sort of blankets and sheets they put on their bed, which gives the bed a little bit of personal style, even if together the colors often clash.
The kitchen in "Meller" contains a fridge, microwave, stove, toaster oven, sink, and an oven- all in a very small section of the bus! The team stops once a week to go grocery shopping, but most of the food bought is non-perishables. The team alternates who is cooking what meal- sometimes people cook in teams, and sometimes people prepare food individually. If someone really can't cook, though, for the sake of the team, someone else will likely help them.
The dining room in "Meller" is also small, but takes advantage of the space available. The table itself pulls out of the storage unit that houses the dishes, and chairs are stacked and stored in a closet. For fancy occasions there are some tablecloths, but for the most part , the team uses placemats instead of a tablecloth.
The family room in "Meller" isn't the largest, but it is the coziest room on the truck. Most of the team spends their free time in this room, reading or playing games on their phone. For less solitary activities, sometimes people organize a game night in the family room, with games like Cards Against Humanity and Trivial Pursuit. This room also has a small TV, which is almost always tuned in to the news.
OSP: Chameleon "Panther"
Disguised as a Walmart delivery truck, no one would ever be able to guess that the inside of this truck is really a multi-million dollar Ops Center. "Panther" is the truck where the most business happens- cases come to light, assignments take place, people assume new identities, any information found is analyzed, and all communications are looped in with "Panther."
The Ops Center in "Panther" is where one can see that the Chameleon team is really an offshoot of the OSP team. With the same general layout and the same technologies, the only difference between the Chameleon Ops Center and the Los Angeles one is that the Chameleon Ops Center is completely mobile.
Sure, the Costume Room in "Panther" is messy, but that's part of its charm. The Costume Room contains not only a wide variety of clothing, but also a significant number of props. The first place a person goes to once they are assigned an undercover role is the Costume Room- to be believable, you have to dress the part! There is clothing for all shapes and sizes, and for any role imaginable. Costumes for clowns, ballerinas, lawyers, doctors, custodians, teachers, and more can be found in the Costume Room.
OSP: Chameleon "Fischer"
Disguised as a USPS delivery truck, "Fischer" is anything but. Rather, this truck contains a state of the art gym and a shooting range to help agents better hone their skills. Whether it's learning a new kind of fighting style or simply a morning workout routine, "Fischer" contains everything one needs to get the blood pumping!
The gym takes up a fair amount of room in the truck, and contains several treadmills, elliptical, and stationary bikes for anyone's cardio needs. It also has several machines for weight training, and an impressive collection of different sized weights. In addition, it has an open area in the center of the gym that is used to practice hand-to-hand combat techniques. One of the most impressive parts of the gym is the small rock-climbing wall that agents use for competition and training.
The shooting range is, again, based on the design of the OSP Los Angeles office- it's a small shooting range, designed to only accommodate 5 shooters. With the touch of a button, the targets zoom forward for you to take, eliminating the danger of having to manually retrieve targets. As with any sort of contained shooting range, "Fischer" requires the shooters and those observing to wear protective eye-wear and ear protection.
The Weapons Room contains any weapon one could ever need in the world. Knives, guns, you name it- mostly used for practice, but some have applications in various cases the team is assigned to.
OSP: Chameleon "Oustalet"
There's a reason for "Oustalet" to be disguised as a Coca-Cola delivery truck- it doesn't look out of place for such a truck to be refrigerated. While the inside of "Oustalet" certainly isn't totally refrigerated, no one on the outside would be able to tell what this truck really houses. In reality, this is the truck which houses a small morgue a forensics lab. It enables the scientists and the medical examiners to share information and recovered evidence very quickly, and discuss results and postulate theories. Both have state-of-the-art technology, even if it's a little cramped.
OSP: Chameleon "Jackson"
Some members of the team thought it was bad luck putting a "target" on one of the trucks, but it is one of the most common trucks seen on the road. This truck is not what it seems, though- it does not deliver goods to Targets around the country. Rather, the truck is where the Chameleon team brings suspects for interrogation. "Jackson" contains three interrogation rooms, each hooked up to the television screen in the common area, where agents can toggle between views of the room and discuss the suspects' behavior. The interrogation rooms are intimidating, but not as scary as the interrogation rooms with metal tables and chairs. The tables are bolted to the floor for moving purposes, and the chairs are all stowed in a closet for transport.
