Reviving a thread?

Naps

Noble Napper
Is it allowed? I found a really cool thread that seems to be abandoned. Is it against the rules or just plain wrong to start a new thread that's basically a revived version?

I suppose use your best judgement.

Thread necromancy for roleplays is probably not a good idea, as the GM (the roleplay's creator) probably abandoned it for a reason. Discussion threads, however, are usually OK to revive. In the end, it's not explicitly against the rules but is sometimes frowned upon. I suppose I just tell you to use your best judgement.

You would need the express permission of the original creator, in the case of roleplays. I know if someone tried to reboot As We Knew It I'd go ballistic. xD

Okay, I understand. And yeah it was a roleplay. I'll try contacting them and see. Otherwise it's best to let dead things be.

The same applies to generally anything, ask permission of the original owner if you want to do anything related to their work. ;)

I hope that you solve it, though, @Naps.

If the owner isn't active on the site anymore it could technically be fair game...

but that only applies if they don't even come on at all for like a month after you PM them

even then it would possibly still be frowned upon (although I don't see why but it may)

If a roleplay has become inactive and the RP owner is no longer active on the site, recreating the RP could be possible. You could cite the original creator and RP as inspiration for the new RP, plagiarism and creative theft are only really applicable if a person uses the ideas of another and passes them off as their own.

I wouldn't recommend it... people revive/reboot their own work all the time on here. And if you used their idea, especially without permission from them, I could see major ugliness. Best to just come up with your own ideas or interpretation of the idea.

Thanks for all the feedback. I messaged them and guess I'll be playing the waiting game. After some thought the main thing I'd liked to do is borrow the races he came up with and expand on them. So if no reply comes in a month I'll cite him as the creator of those races. I'm having mixed feelings though so it'll all depend on what happens next.

Just a follow up. He contacted me back and OKed it. I'm hoping to setup something with him where he'll be a lore adviser. All due credit will still go to him but I get to flesh out the story to my own imagination.
