Renewal (Flip & Wretched Egg)

Kori ran out the entrance of the orphanage, tears in his eyes, as he ran towards his first and only friend, Aude. As he reached her, he grabbed her sleeves, bawling, "Please don't go, Yumi! You can't! Don't leave me!" His friend was adopted, and she was being taken away from him by her new parents. His ears were drooping. He didn't care what her new parents thought about him, being a neko and all.

Present Day

Kori sighed as he walked up to the high school. It was his first day, and a cold one at that. Kori had his hood up not only to keep his head warm, but to hide his ears as well. He didn't want anyone to know that he was a neko, otherwise he would most likely be subject to the bullying and isolation he had to go through many years ago. His tail felt uncomfortable squished under his backpack and stuffed under his shirt. He kept his head down as to not make eye contact with any of the other students walking in.

"Hm?" Kori mumbled, turning around to see who poked his shoulder, only to find a girl standing behind him. His long hair blocked his blue eyes, but he could still see clearly.

"...Kori...," Kori replied, uninterested in what the girl had to say. He then turned around and started walking again. He still had to get his class schedule.

Kori remained silent. Was she one of the ones that bullied me in the past? he thought to himself. His heart started racing in fear as he quickened his pace.

Kiro ignored Yumiko as the school bell rang. He rushed over to the office to get his schedule from his counselor, brushing past the wave of students that was flowing in through the doors of the entrance of the school. Kiro held onto his hood so that it wouldn't get knocked off his head if he bumped into someone.

Kiro felt someone bump into him as he walked. He shook it off as he entered the office, walking towards the receptionist, who pointed him out in the direction of his counselor.

Kori sighed, standing outside the door to his first class. He looked at his schedule. Math. Kori took a deep breath and opened the door to the classroom and knocked on the door frame. The teacher, along with the other students, looked up to see who was knocking. Kori approached the teacher and handed her a note. The teacher read the note, then looked back up at Kori. "Ah, yes, okay. Take a seat over there," the teacher said, pointing at the empty desk next to the girl Kori encountered earlier. Kori did as he was told. He could hear the whispers of the other students as he passed by, with the question of why his hood was up being the most common. Kori then took a seat and sighed, pulling out the math book he was given earlier.

"Huh? Oh, sorry about that," Kori said quietly, glancing over. He then looked at Yumiko's hand intently, wary of it. Kori's left ear twitched ever so slightly under his hood, but he slowly reached over and shook Yumiko's hand, quickly retracting his own. It was a bit warm in the room, but he couldn't let that make him take his hood off. He wouldn't take his hood off.

Ever since Kori was "adopted", he lived under a new last name than what he had back at the orphanage. What did she want from him, anyway? Maybe if he just told her, she would stop bothering him. "Steinwell," he mumbled, rolling up the sleeves on his sweatshirt to cool him off a little. He shuffled around his tail to circulate some air into the back of the sweatshirt, moving it from side to side along his back.

Kori began to breath more heavily, now. Sweat started to run down his forehead as he began to overheat. He wanted to take off his sweater, but he couldn't risk revealing himself on his first day. A few minutes later, the bell to signal the start of break rang, so Kori shot up from his seat, collecting his things, and exited the classroom, heading towards the roof access of the school. He looked back to see if anyone was following him before exiting onto the roof, pulling off his hood and untucking his tail from under his sweater, letting the cool air blow over them. Kori then fell back into a sitting position, taking out a bottle of water and drinking from it. He stayed away from the fence just in case, and sat next to the door in the shade.

Immediately when he heard the door open, a sense of fear shot through him as he scrambled to put on his hood and hide his tail. He shook when the girl asked him that question, pulling his hood further down his face. "W-what are you t-talking about?" Kori asked. His voice wavered, pulling his knees in to shut her out. Bad memories flooded into his head, making him shake even more.

"I-i have no idea what you're talking about. I'm completely normal," Kori stuttered, squeezing himself tighter even more. "I d-don't even know you."

It was painful for Kori to look back on the past, clutching his head as pain shot through it. "Please, just stay away from me," he mumbled, crying a little. The bell signaling the end of break rang. Kori shot up and collected his bag, hastening to get to his next class. He stumbled down the stairs, falling and landing on his side.

"Just...stay away from me," Kori mumbled, swatting away the hand as he got up on his own and headed toward his next class.

"My life was hell," Kori said, stopping in his tracks. "Every single day, I had to go through the same shit over and over and over again. Ignoring everything and everyone was the only way I could cope with it, so don't even try to compare me with those assholes." Kori then stormed off again.

When the lunch bell rang, Kyte returned to the rooftop, sitting alone as usual, leaning against the guard fence. Sighing, he pulled out his lunch, which was a can of sardines and began to eat them one by one. He looked down at the lunch area, looking at all the people that he has to deal with for the next couple of years.

"Hmph," Kori mumbled, getting up and collecting his trash and belongings. He then proceeded to return downstairs, bumping into another student, a jock by the looks of him.

"Hey, watch it!" the jock said, abruptly turning to see who bumped into him, only to see a kid with a hood over his head.

"Sorry," Kori mumbled as he began to walk away.

"Weirdo," the jock commented, returning to his business.

((Timeskip to after school))

Kori walked alone off school grounds, sulking as usual. He kept his head down as he walked so he wouldn't make any eye contact with everyone.

Her again? Well, if it'll get her to go away, might as well, he thought to himself. "Fine. You sure you won't try anything funny on me?"

"Right." Kori mumbled, shrugging his shoulders as he entered the froyo shoppe. The cold air filled his nose as he took a deep breath. He could smell the individual toppings from the toppings counter.

"I don't know," Kori mumbled, shrugging his shoulders. "I rarely get ice cream." He walked over to the dispensers, looking at each flavor as he passed. "Sorry about being rude earlier," he said quietly after stopping in front of one of the dispensers. Peanut butter.
