Life of the party!
So bare with me here, this is an old concept I pulled out of the closet and tweaked. I did proof read, but did so quickly. Here is the general idea...
In the year 2118 a massive war ravaged the earth. The hunger for power drove allies to turn against allies. No country was spared, and mass casualties and environmental tolls occurred. Advancements in technology produced weapons of mass destruction and chaos. However, these weapons still did not bring an end to war. There were a few world leaders, now fearful of how destructive the war had become, who eventually formed a truce. The spent countless hours, ideas, and manpower on a solution.
This alliance introduced the concept of “super soldiers” in the year 2121. Through the use of genetics and technology, modified human beings were created solely for the purpose of war. Unfortunately, these test subjects were often young, typically around the ages of 13-16. This was due to the already occurring bodily changes and the body’s increased tolerance during this stage. The “experiments" and methods used to ensure these modifications success would be deemed torture by most. These modifications include inhuman strength, strategical excellence, improved weapons handling, impeccable hand to hand combat, and many more modifications ideal for the purpose of war. Each super soldier was given a serial number for identification and to be monitored during the war. Once these soldiers were trained and of age, typically 18 and older, they were unleashed to opposing forces.
These super soldiers helped turned the tides for the allies, who now went by the Aligned Powers of Oden [aka APO]. APO brought a successful end to the war in the year 2129, and established their dominance. The world became quiet again once. Humanity began to pick up the pieces. With no war to fight, APO turned to their attention to the colonization of the terraformed planet, Mars. Unfortunately, this focus left earth on the back burner.
The year is 2135. Peace has been established for these past years, and the Aligned Powers of Oden wish to keep it that way. The super soldiers, once heroes, now became the subject of political distress. Citizens demanded the assurance that peace would stay. What if they turned rouge? What if they decided to start another war? After all, that’s why they were created. Fearing that these newly designed super soldiers posed too much of a threat, the scientists behind the super soldier research program were killed. All research was destroyed, and APO then established a task force to eradicate the surviving super soldiers. The task force established did not receive the modifications the super soldiers received, which made the job that much more difficult. While it is safe to say the task force accomplished most of their mission, it did not do so without many casualties. These casualties were never made public so potential recruits would not be frightened from the cause.
Hundreds of super soldiers once existed. The number now dwindles each passing day. Escaping from the massacre, the remaining super soldiers took precautions to ensure their own survival. These super soldiers all had different ideas on how to survive. Most chose to remain hidden. There are others who wish to make their presence known and exact revenge on the ones they once fought for. The last remaining super soldiers have been termed “Renegades” and are to be considered armed and dangerous. APO has offered a generous reward for anyone able to bring in a Renegade, dead or alive. Preferably dead.
The World Today
Humanity seemed to be able to finally master the ideas of space travel, or at least to a certain degree. Interstellar travel has become available in the form of shuttles for the public, and private ships for those who can afford them. There are some parts of the universe mankind may never see. However, as of the year 2135 mankind has made the planet of Mars habitable.
There are now cities, breathtaking and glamorous cities, the most noteworthy being the city of Oro. Deemed “The City of Gold”, Oro is the heart of Mars. The hotels and condos consist of the most beautiful architect that money could buy. Casinos and stores flood the city. Wealthy politicians, celebrities, and CEO’s are found roaming the streets. The weather is reminiscent of constant summer weather, making it an ideal for tropical getaways and vacation spots. A large manmade lake sits at the outskirts of Oro to help sell the tropical feel of the city.
There are a few smaller settlements located on Mars as well, however their prime focus is on agriculture and not luxury. There are rumors that Renegades took over one of these rural communities known as “Gent”, a large settlement established not long after the war. Most say this rumor is baseless. After all, what would Renegades have to gain on Mars?
Earth is no longer the world it once was. Large barren areas have become wastelands of debris. The Aligned Powers of Oden have walled off surviving cities. These cities are known as APO colonies and each contain an APO base within them. There are few grocery stores, an occasional mall or two, schools, hospitals, and a few miscellaneous stores here and there. Major businesses and entertainment attractions have moved to Mars due to the devastation of war, making earth a bleak and dull world. Living quarters are tight, and curfews have been set for every major city. Everyone on Earth seems to have the goal of wanting to live on Mars. However, the task is not an easy one. That’s why Earth has now become the promising land of Bounty Hunters. In fact, becoming a bounty hunter has been idolized. The price of a Renegades head could pay for a luxurious life on Mars. Kids even look up to and aspire to be them like modern day super heroes. Black market dealings have become a key source of income for those who are cunning enough to keep it from the APO. Makeshift spaceships can fetch a pretty penny on the market. Weapons dealing has also become advanced. Heck, there is even talk that one of those super soldier scientists survived and is selling some very impressive gear. You best know how to handle yourself though. Not only are you chasing super soldiers, there’s a good chance you’ll run into some angry APO officers.
