Remove Image Borders

We meet again, SQI forum. (I am so sorry)

I’ve noticed a lot of users aren’t big fans of the border that shows up around images in posts. It’s not exactly the most aesthetically pleasing thing in the world. A lot of us would like it gone, or invisible, or something, because it’s pretty distracting and looks very clunky on small images.

Is it possible to remove/disable it entirely, or is it part of Xenforo/the image resizing feature and therefore something that cannot be overwritten?

If it IS impossible to remove, is there a way to perhaps decrease the width of the border or reduce its transparency?

If all of this is completely impossible, would you willing to educate us on why it is so and save this thread for the next time someone else asks about the image borders?

Shoutout to @Elle Joyner who threatened to make this thread herself, @Honeybucky who seemed to be interested in the answer, and @Erica who tried to find a previous thread that she thought may have had a "why not" explanation but couldn't find it.

Even if it's impossible, I'm really interested in why that is/how the site works. The only other website I have experience with that deals with responsive design and these borders is the Wordpress.com platform, and I know the border around an image will disappear if there's no caption or title in the metadata to display. But in RPNation, we're hotlinking images from other sources when we put an image in our posts, so there's no information like that to account for, so it's not the same mechanic as Wordpress. Unless I'm wrong. Which is always a fairly large possibility.

Well, regardless, I'm hoping at the very least that the next time someone asks this question, we'll have a thread to chuck at them that says "This is why we can't do that".

From what I can remember, it definitely has something to do with all of the fancy back end stuff. A lot of things on this site are part of Xenforo (such as the notable user list) that the Admins don't have control over. If they removed it, it would be like removing a bone from the human body. The site wouldn't be able to function as well. I'm sure the Staff will put something together explaining the presence of the image border when we are able to do so. ( :) )

That's what I figured - if it were an easy fix, I'm sure Pineapple would have changed it months ago! As it is, I'll consider it a lucky break if he's even able to adjust the width or the transparency.

I would like to see the ability to adjust the transparency [if possible]. However, with a lot of tweaking, I did find a way to make the border disappear altogether. But, you would have to work around having a black background.

1) The site has always been Xenforo and the image border was not always here, which makes me conclude that the Staff placed it deliberately

2) Everything can be changed

3) I hate the border as well and would give up a hot meal to see it gone

*woof*
