Hello! Before I begin, there are a few tidbits you should know about this piece. It originally started as random crap I wrote down when I was listening to music, but it soon turned into a story, and before I knew it, each segment connected pretty darn well. I won't spoil the plot or how each chapter connects with each other, if I even am to post more than one chapter, but it definitely helps if you listen to the song while reading. There may be a few grammatical errors, but eh. Anyway, all you need to know is that each chapter is in chronological order. And with that, I'll let you get on with reading!

How extraordinary she seemed in the fire, dancing like one with the so called savages. She lit up the dull sky with her bright dances, and when he caught her eye, they stared, not gazing anywhere else. She ignored the stare from her husband, emperor of Rome. She heard a few murmurs when she watched the captain of the guard get up from his position and join in on the dance. Only the “savages” were supposed to dance, after all, her people were considered the scum of the Earth. It had been a rule enforced by a harsh dictator. And if anyone, especially the captain of the guard, was caught socialize with said "savages" it'd only considered blasphemous. But in the moment, nothing could separate them.

She watched as he copied the movements of her people, circling around the fire, unafraid of the consequences that may take place after their moment of enjoyment ended. A few Romans murmured whispers under their breath, most likely surprised by the audacity of the captain. Others simply had a look of disgust on their face.
After all, the Egyptians were far inferior to the Romans. Anything they did was considered lowly and classless. She was enthralled by his sudden courage, and she knew if she were to baste more in the moment, she’d never heard the end of it from her husband. But something made her want to drink more of the dangerous waters of the Nile.

“The captain of the guard seems more relaxed than normal.” She heard her husband hint with a bit of jealousy in his tone, but she ignored his statement, only to join in with the captain.

“You picked up my people’s dance well.” The captain chuckled and met her bright gaze.

“It helped that I had a good instructor.” Her blush made him smile, and the Egyptian queen looked down, biting at her lip slightly.

“You know what this dance about?” The captain shook his head and she continued to circle around the ring of fire, “it’s the story of Nephthys and Osiris.” The captain had no change of expression, so the queen continued. “Nephthys was married to Set, who was the brother of Osiris and king of evil. But Nephthys’ true love was Osiris. There were many obstacles that lie for the lovers, two being the jealous spouses of both Nephthys and Osiris, Set and Isis respectively." Letting out a sigh, the queen continued her epic tale. "So, the two lovers met up," she stopped, "their meet up being the dance itself. But lo and behold, the lovers were caught in their act of passion. Nephthys was banished to the netherworld while Osiris remained in the Underworld, trapped with the responsibility of being king." As she finished her tale, the queen looked up once more, "the fire signifies both the passion and dangers of love. One must enjoy the heat of it, but not get too caught up." The captain stepped back, not exactly sure what to say. Finally, he composed himself.

“So would that make me Osiris and you Nephthys?” The captain was a brave man, yet in the moment, he spoke in hushed tones.

“My, you speak of blasphemy and sin, do you not?” But the queen cracked a smile and replied in the same hushed tones, “perhaps it does.” Her gaze suddenly turned to her husband, as she watched him watch the two together, “do you wish to know the ending?” Before she could continue further, a trumpet roared, ending the dance. The two didn’t realize that his hand was wrapped around her body, and hers on his. They took a step back, and the captain bowed, “you’ll have to tell me it another time.” Blushing once more, the queen stepped away from the fire and returned to the emperor’s side, her brightness dulling instantaneously. But perhaps she would tell him the ending, and maybe, her brightness would be able to shoot across the sky forever.
