THE ROLES
The Available Roles.
Gunman: Unlimited โ€” Important lines of defense for the camp, a few are often posted on the perimeter of the camp to keep them safe from those who would stumble upon them. The others are members of the robbery teams and will go off every so often to pull a robbery. They are all skilled with various guns and can be dangerous in a gunfight. That being said, many of the camp's gunmen can be reckless and wild, leading to frequent injuries.

Gunwoman: Unlimited โ€” The camp women decided some time ago that they couldn't rely on the men for the only lines of defense within the group so they decided to learn how to shoot guns as well. Now they are important members of the group and will help with robberies or simply guard the camp. They are a lot smarter and more responsible than many of the men, they tend to fill in for them when they are injured.

Thief: 0/4 โ€” Subtle and quick, they are pickpockets at the top of their games. They usually go into town and steal their property, or they go on robberies that require a more subtle way to get goods. Regardless, they are skilled and important members of the group when it comes to earning money.

Camp Cook: 0/1 โ€” Camp food never tasted any good until they showed up. They have been feeding everyone in the camp and keeping them as healthy as possible. They cook whatever they can with the limited ingredients provided. They work closely with the camp's hunters and administrators in order to get what they need for the food.

Cook's Assistant: 0/1 โ€” Training alongside the cook, they are learning the ins and outs of the kitchen and how to provide for the group. They don't usually make full meals alone but recently they've been allowed to make breakfast a couple of days out of the week.

Hunter: 0/4 โ€” They go out and hunt for the camp, but also will gather things they find such as herbs, fruit, vegetables, etc. They are excellent trackers and have a wide variety of knowledge on bows, traps, skinning, and different flora and fauna in the area. They are the main source of food for the group so they are very important for the survival of them all.

Debt Collector: 0/3 โ€” The Prewitt gang rarely lends out money, but sometimes they do when Rasmus runs into old friends or finds an investment he's interested in. When someone fails to pay them back, they are the ones to show up on their porch and figure out why that is. When Rasmus is not present, Mitch is in charge of them.

Enforcer: 0/2 โ€” Some of the more intimidating and stronger members of the group are often brought by Rasmus to meetings with other gangs or when the debt collectors go off to collect. They are the only ones that Rasmus will trust to rough someone up without killing them and getting whatever it is he's looking for. When Rasmus is not present, Mitch is in charge of them.

Camp Doctor: 0/1 โ€” Maybe not a doctor in a professional sense, but they certainly are qualified now. They have taken out bullets and arrows, pried off traps, set broken limbs, and eased the harsh coughing of the children throughout winter. Incredibly important to the group, they are the main source of health support, especially when on the run.

Camp Veterinarian: 0/1 โ€” Just like the doctor, the camp's vet is very important. They tend to the horses when they pull up lame, take care of the camp dogs, and make sure any animals the camp owns are healthy and getting what they need. Generally saves them money as they have learned to shoe horses as well and do trimmings so the group doesn't have to go to farriers anymore.

Blaster: 0/1 โ€” A demolishing expert if you will, they are in charge of any and all explosives that are required for a robbery. Usually used when making hits on other gangs or trains, they are extremely important, and their merchandise even more so. While they've almost blown off their fingers a little too often, they are the only person Rasmus would hand a stick of dynamite to.

Camp Trader: 0/2 โ€” Recently having started up a business while in Crow's Alley, these two make goods from pelts, bones, and other things from what animals the hunters bring in. When they have a large amount of them, they usually send them to town or some contacts that will buy them for a decent price. They have even been known to dabble in shipping booze for a decent price.

Rustler: 0/4 โ€” They are the ones to steal cattle or horses from farms in whatever area they are in. Sometimes it's to keep for the gang but more often than not it's to sell to competitors. They are fast and quick-witted, always knowing how to lose people that are chasing them down. But sometimes they can get a little too cocky and that can mess up any plan easily.

Handmaiden: Unlimited โ€” Usually the older members of the group or new mothers, tend to hang around camp and keep it clean while watching the kids. Quite important, they take care of the young, sick, injured, old, and animals, especially when most of the group is off committing a robbery. Most new members are in this role before they find their place in the group.

The Taken Roles.
The Leader: Rasmus Prewitt โ€” He's been in charge of the gang since he was 15 years old. He has gone from a pretty laid-back leader to rather strict and harsh on those who break his rules. He doesn't go on robberies very often because he is getting older and he prefers to talk to the older members of the gang to come up with plans on how to keep them out of trouble. He is currently trying to make up for lost money from Crow's Alley and is making plenty of connections in Serenity Gulch.

The Second-In-Command: Jeb Hendrix โ€” He's been the right-hand man of Rasmus since he first joined the gang. They are close friends, but he has no problem voicing his concerns about what Rasmus may be doing. He is usually the first person people go to when they have a question and don't want to bother their leader. He is a lot easier on the members, especially the younger ones because he understands they have to learn and grow.

The Accountant/Lawman: Otto Silver โ€” Lawman turned gunman, he helped get the gang out of trouble back when they were first starting out. He handles things on the legal aspect and advises Rasmus and Jeb on what steps the group needs to take to stay out of trouble. He's also in charge of their money and is the only one (outside of Rasmus) who has any access to it. He takes his job seriously and doesn't like it when people try to mess with the group's money.

Camp Butcher: Wilbur Fellows โ€” A bit of an introvert, he tends to stick to himself and process the goods the hunters bring back. He is pretty gruff with his words and can be cranky, especially if he hasn't had a drink or smoked recently. He doesn't like to be told what to do and if you have a special request he will tell you to go find someone else to bother.

Lead Enforcer/Lead Debt Collector: Mitchell McFarling โ€” He joined the gang shortly before the large jewelry robbery and has been a core member since. He started off as a simple gunman but as time went on and his experience grew, he took on more roles within the gang. He had no desire to really be a big shot but Rasmus wanted him to watch over some of the more explosive members if possible. So he currently is in charge of the enforcers and collectors while also going on robberies and heists. (played by social)(played by social)

Camp Administrator: Iris Van Orman โ€” She takes care of the camp inventory and keeps it running somewhat effectively. She likes to keep things organized and does the shopping for the group whenever possible as she doesn't trust the others to do it. She can be cold and a bit difficult to get along with but she is the only thing keeping them together at this point so it's better not to piss her off. (played by social)

Thief/Gunman/Debt Collector: Dimitri Petrov โ€” A conman from across the pond, he has the status that allows him to rub elbows with the elites of the Western world. He joined the gang a few years ago due to his fascination with their way of life and has been working on recording everything they do so it will be their legacy. (played by social)

Gunwoman/Hunter: Mari Nashoba โ€” A gunwoman and hunter, she is capable in both areas, having learned from experience and her parents what animals to hunt and where to find them. She is smart and resourceful, qualities that any young gunwoman should have. A single mother, her husband disappeared one night on a small hunting trip they went on and nobody has seen or heard from him in five years. (played by social)

Enforcer/Gunman: Arthur Covington โ€” A loyal member of the gang, he's been with them since he was a young child and unable to fend for himself. He used to have a brother but since losing him, he has dedicated his life to the gang and to Rasmus. He is an enforcer and gunman, always there to protect and provide for those he calls his family. He would be lost without the gang and he doesn't want to think about a life where he isn't with them. Since the incident, he has been more on edge and frustrated, not knowing what's in store for their future. (played by social)

Gunwoman/Thief: Carmen Morales-Flores โ€” A core member of the gang, she was born and raised in this mess of outlaws. Her personality clearly reflects this. Quite rough around the edges, she will stab you in the heart and rob you blind if you aren't careful. She is extremely loyal to the gang and will protect it with her life, often looking at newcomers suspiciously as she worries about their true intentions. (played by junegloom)

THE LORE
The Prewitt Gang.
Rasmus Prewitt isn't a saint and never has been. He was an orphan who lived a harsh life in the shadows, looked over by everyone who passed him. He scavenged, fought, and clawed his way to survive, practically baring teeth toward wolves in order to get a meal. He made a promise to himself and whatever God sat above him in the clouds that he would make it in life. He would go against the system that sought to suffocate him and make him into roadkill, he would be something bigger than all of that. One would think he was rather ambitious about making his own gang at 16 years old, but it was only logical for Rasmus. He had skills, but he needed more bodies to help him out. He couldnโ€™t do it alone. This was when he met Julien Hibbert, Jeb Hendrix, and Beth Glass. The four of them became a force to be reckoned with, even at such young ages.

They did their best with what they could afford and lived off the land. Sometimes they worked for ranchers for extra cash, but mostly they just hunted and stole when they could. Wagons and small businesses were the easiest for them, especially with the charming Beth being able to hypnotize anyone with her melodic voice. They lived life like there was only a tomorrow where they would succeed and make it far in life, as if they had everything figured out. Maybe it was just a game for a couple of kids, but they made it into their reality.

They seemed to attract misfits like they did flies and it allowed them to score bigger and bigger. They robbed their first jewelry shop when Rasmus was 24 and got away with a lot of very expensive pieces. They were shot at, forced into hiding, and got their first bounties posted at every train station nearby. The thrill of robbery was addicting and so they continued this streak. The years dragged on and they brought in more people, forming more than just a gang, they were a family. There were losses, some natural and others at the expense of a heist. Each one seemed to harden those who lived within the Prewitt gang, they began to understand how cruel the world could be.

Now in the 1880s, Rasmus is still kicking at age 48 with one too many bullet scars on his body, but pretty healthy. He has taken it upon himself to make enough money for the gang to purchase land wherever they want so that they can be set for the rest of their lives and the lives of their children. So the heists are bigger than before and that means they have to be careful or someone will get killed. Crowโ€™s Alley was the most recent place that the Prewitt gang set up but after the death of young William Marrell, the group took off west and began to cross the United States in search of a fresh start so he could continue saving up.

Rasmus has no intentions of stopping the robberies and making money, but some of the gang is a bit split, mostly due to the reality of their situation. The law was tracking them and it seemed like it was only a matter of time before Rasmus got them caught.

Crow's Alley.
Down south, this was the Prewitt gang's home for around six months. It was in a desert and certainly was no paradise. Rattlesnakes were always underfoot, the sun burned any exposed skin it could find, and it seemed like water was never cold enough. But it was home for half a year, something that the gang rarely experienced. The town wasn't filled with do-gooders and often times outlaws would stroll into town and stay awhile before leaving. The law barely lifted a finger to disrupt fights or even duels, meaning it was the perfect environment for the gang. It wasn't until they decided to rob the large passenger train that ran through Crow's Alley that everything fell apart. Due to the number of casualties within Crow's Alley, there's a large bounty for various members of the gang (mostly the older well-known ones) and the capture of the whole gang itself. They will be arrested if they go into Crow's Alley.

Serenity Gulch.
A small town hidden in the mountains in the Northwest, it is filled with tall trees, lush greenery, and plenty of animals. The town itself is quiet and peaceful, almost as if they have managed to live alongside nature and haven't felt the strain of progress. While small, that doesn't mean the population is lacking. Many residents of Serenity Gulch live deep within the woods, hidden behind thick brambles and trees. This can make it a little tricky when exploring the vast forests of the area. The Prewitt gang themselves have found a small clearing, deep within the woods, alongside a river. There's plenty of fish in the freshwater and deer within the woods. While their arrival has caused many to ask questions, there's little protest. But some within the town have begun to whisper gossip about the new arrivals, almost as if they've been spying on their less-than-favorable misdeeds.

ABOUT THE ROLEPLAY
Welcome to ๐‘๐ž๐๐ž๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง! This roleplay is a reboot so if it looks familiar that is why! I am obsessed with Red Dead 2 and the Yellowstone shows so naturally, this roleplay is inspired by all of them! This roleplay will be taking place in the 1880s (no specific date right now) in the US. This is going to be an ADVANCED roleplay and needs to be treated as such when you are applying! It is not first-come-first-serve, meaning you will be accepted via PM if I feel your character(s) is a good fit. If you do not receive an invite by the time I specify, that means your character has not been accepted. That being said, Discord is required for this roleplay as it will be our OOC since it's far easier for me to keep track there. This roleplay also has an 18+ rule as I simply do not feel comfortable with having minors in this roleplay. I will be providing a plot summary here just in case anyone needs it! This roleplay is open to all of those who have not watched/played the games/shows! A plot summary will be provided below.

This roleplay focuses on the Prewitt gang, a gang of outlaws and misfits that have traveled around the United States, primarily the South, and have caused all sorts of problems. On their most recent train robbery in the tow of Crowโ€™s Alley, someone didnโ€™t get all the passengers, and one of their own got shot and killed, leading to a gunfight and a lot of passengers getting killed. This sort of heat was too much for them and so the gang left for safety. They headed northwest and ended up in the quiet mountain town of Serenity Gulch. They set up camp and hesitantly began to go out and make money for the campโ€™s fund, slowly trying to reach their goal.

The gang is run by a man named Rasmus Prewitt who has become quite strict and hardened over the last 30 years and has high expectations of those in his company. He made the decision to save up their money in order to purchase a large section of land and make that a home for them for every generation of the gang. But in order to achieve this, Rasmus believes they must do large robberies and get money the outlaw way. This has caused some stir within the group after the death of such a young group member has been pushed aside as Rasmus is more concerned about finances.

Faced with a unique opportunity to turn their lives around, the gang has to decide if they will follow their current path and stay outlaws, or if they will risk turning over a new leaf and use their wits and skills to make the rest of the money in an honest way. The roleplay course will be decided by the roleplayers as I will take surveys of what the characters would vote for and that will change parts of the story!

THE RULES
โ€ข This is considered an ADVANCED roleplay, meaning multi-paragraph in-character posts are required! One-liners will not be allowed.

โ€ข This roleplay is 18+

โ€ข I will not enforce things to be super historically accurate (but make an effort to try a little bit. no cellphones please)

โ€ข This is NOT a first-come-first-serve roleplay. This is APPLICATION BASED. That means if you do not receive a PRIVATE ACCEPTANCE from me, you have not been accepted. This is simply due to your character(s) not fitting in with the story I have created. I will not tolerate being badgered, harassed, pestered, or bothered by those who did not get in. I will not tell you how to get in because that defeats the purpose of the application. If I feel there are small changes that can be made to get the character into the roleplay, I will let you know.

โ€ข Roles will be made available once applications have opened.

โ€ข Currently only allowing applicants to apply for TWO characters max. You can apply for more characters after being accepted.

โ€ข KEEP THINGS EVEN!!! If genders are imbalanced, I will balance them out myself when it comes to accepting characters

โ€ข Realistic face claims or detailed descriptions are the only options for appearances in this roleplay! Art/illustrations are not allowed and Ai certainly is not allowed.

โ€ข Any OOC drama needs to be brought to my attention! Those who bully and exclude others will not be allowed in the roleplay. Do not cause issues for other roleplayers.

โ€ข This is meant to be a long-term roleplay! This means that characters can die/be changed as the story progresses. Please talk to me about this if you would like to add in a character death/departure.

โ€ข There is an expectation of one post per week and if you are not able to meet this requirement, please reach out to me or you will be given a warning. If you have two warnings, you will be notified of your removal from the roleplay.

    bucky | paint cross | gelding | 7 years old | xo
named by one of the kids in the gang due to how much he would buck (even when not being ridden), he is now a very reliable horse that mitch uses for most of his robberies and heists. he's a playful horse and enjoys going full-throttle all the time, but he is learning to be content with holding back. unphased by gunshots or bar fights, this horse has turned his hooves and teeth on people causing strife for the gang. always coming when he is called, he is loyal and will stick with his owner until death.

hobbies. fishing/hunting, working with horses, journaling, learning about plants

vices. someone who indulges in the less than finer things in life, he has developed a taste for good whiskey and cigarettes. he uses it to help wash away the bad memories and the ghosts that seem to hang around him. he has a high tolerance for people, but when he does snap, he can do things he isn't proud of. he tends to speak out of line and often argues with people, which can result in some fights where he leaves for a bit. he has a hard time committing and staying around after conflicts, which can hurt those he cares about. in relationships, he struggles with the same thing as he feels he just isn't cut out for anything serious, not since he got divorced. he gets overprotective when it comes to close loved ones and this can cause him to seem overbearing.

virtues. dedicated to taking care of the group, he does what will benefit them the most, even at the expense of his own happiness. he likes to be useful and will do tasks that bother him, just so that they are done and people don't have to worry about them. he often checks in with people and makes shopping trips to get them supplies or simply spend time with them. he is a lover and a fighter, resulting in him standing up for the gang members even if they've done stupid shit that's gotten them into trouble. he is protective of the group as it is the longest-lasting home he's ever had. surprisingly very respectful, he often uses last names instead of first and will do his best to make people feel at ease and comfortable around him.

    Family โ€”
claire mcfarling | mother | deceased
his mother was always a kind and caring soul. she often put people's needs above her own and would do whatever she could to bring a smile out. she always liked children and animals, being a teacher for a period of time. as mitch grew older, he truly appreciated the gentle hand that she had with them as it was a big contrast to the outside world. she did get sick and lost her eyesight when he was in his teens, greatly impacting the family. still, she lived a full life until she passed away a few years ago in her sleep.

micah mcfarling | father | alive
a bit rough around the edges, he was a man of the wilderness and seemed to always have that unsettled look in his eyes. he didn't have much to say to his children as they aged, but he didn't need to unless he was teaching them something. he would often take the kids hunting or to ranches he was working on to give them experience in various fields. he was gruff but he had a sweet spot for his family, especially for his wife. when she lost her eyesight, he made her life as easy as possible and stayed by her side until her passing. he currently is living in the family home with anna and her family.

anna mcfarling | younger sister | alive
a bit of a spitfire, she always had a crazy idea or story bouncing around in her head. a mess of dark curls, she would chase after mitch and their father whenever she could. she didn't like boring 'lady things' and preferred to be more like the boys and run about in the woods. after mitch left the family to join up with the gang, she stayed back and did her best to help their parents with their own business. she got married when she was older and currently has four children that she loves dearly. she stays in touch with mitch pretty regularly.

hannah mcfarling | daughter | deceased
the girl was no more than a few months old when she was killed. the gang had been attacked in the middle of the night when everyone was drinking and celebrating, causing them to be caught completely off guard. fires were started, guns were fired, and mitch had been unable to get to the wagon that housed his daughter before the flames engulfed it. he has never forgiven himself for this and seems to be very awkward around anyone named hannah.

    Relationships โ€”
rasmus prewitt | a horse wrestler that mitch encountered back when he was only seventeen years old, the two have maintained a friendship over these 20+ years. they don't always see eye-to-eye on things, but generally, they don't have any major issues. mitch tends to be rasmus' eyes on the ground when he nor jeb can pay attention to what's going on with the gang or around camp. more recently they have been butting heads over the future of the gang as they are bother trying to figure out the best way to keep everyone safe.

jeb hendrix | the more level-headed of the three, mitch tends to vent to jeb and sort of lets himself rely on him more than others. he is a safe person to talk to and it makes things easier to have someone to talk to that doesn't piss him off beyond reason. he usually goes on fishing or hunting trips with jeb to catch up or to talk about the gang without rasmus trying to butt in on the conversation.

delilah campbell | his ex-wife and at the moment, the only woman he's ever loved. they were together in their early twenties and stayed married for about three years before the divorce. she had initially said she was okay with the life of the gang, but after living in it for some rough periods of time, she couldn't handle it anymore. she asked mitch for a divorce after their camp had been attacked by another gang and their infant daughter ended up passing due to the invading gang. they occasionally keep in touch but he finds it difficult to see her, knowing that she's happily married to a rich man and they have a couple of children while his life hasn't changed at all.

carmen morales-flores | she is pretty much mitch's adopted daughter that he's had since she was around [blank] years old. after being orphaned mitch took her in and raised her on his own. he is very protective of carmen and is terrified of her getting injured or killed. he prevented her from being involved in robberies and heists for a long time until he was no longer able to justify it. he is very aware of who she spends time with and has been known to threaten people that might cause her trouble.

    History โ€”
background. TW: mentions of infant death
his childhood was ordinary, especially when compared to others within the gang. his mother was a grade school teacher and his father was a ranch hand who bounced around whenever he was needed. they made enough money to own a house with some land, but it wasnโ€™t much. micah, his father, eventually needed an extra pair of hands to help him on the ranches so mitchell was pulled out of school relatively young in order to work. he didnโ€™t complain and his mother simply told him to behave and to listen to his father. the work was tiring and difficult, especially for a 12-year-old boy. but he kept his bottom lip stiff and he worked hard.

when he would get to go home and see his mother and younger sister, he was over the moon. he loved the gentle hands of his mother, the soft scent of apples and cinnamon clinging to her as she welcomed him back. he was quite close to her, which was why when she got sick and lost her sight, it rocked his world. he didnโ€™t know what to do as they had lost income from her teaching job. anna wasnโ€™t old enough to work and his father was only able to be away from home for so long. so mitchell decided to work on other ranches and send his paychecks to his parents.

he moved to a horse ranch when he was 14 years old and never came home. he worked and lived at the farm, staying in the barn with the animals. he learned a lot and had a special touch when it came to the animals, almost as if he could read their thoughts and feelings. when he was 15 years old, the ranch was a victim of a raid, their horses getting stolen and men getting killed. the prewitt gang were the perpetrators but mitchell didnโ€™t care. he chased after them for days which turned into a couple of weeks before he managed to sneak into their camp with a knife in hand, prepared to steal back the horses.

rasmus didnโ€™t let that happen. both were young at the time, the gang quite small and not overly well-known in the south. but he saw a spark in mitch that few did. he could do well in the gang. he could make money, he could give his parents plenty of support so they could live out their lives in peace. it was either that or death. he chose to work for the gang. when he first joined, his role was simply to care for their horses, train them, and be a gunman if he needed to watch camp. he had little desire to do much more, he only wanted to make money to send home. but as the years passed and his skills grew alongside his taste for smoke and whiskey, he found himself in a rather powerful position within the gang.

it was still tough, not seeing his family, but he made do with the money he sent them and the whirlwind marriage he was involved in. he was married to an honest woman named delilah for around three years and he adored every moment of it. she wasnโ€™t cut from the same cloth as him, but foolishly, they both thought they were meant to be. she came from a decently well-off family so it had been quite the scandal when she ran off with mitch in order to elope. their relationship in the gang was envied by some as they simply enjoyed everything life had to offer. it wasnโ€™t until the gang was raided by the hensley gang. supplies were taken, men were killed, their daughter hannah was killed, and delilah was almost assaulted. she asked him for a divorce shortly after this and she went home. he later learned she married a rich businessman the following year.

since the divorce, mitch found himself retreating within himself, relying on drink to put him to sleep at night and ease the pain in his heart. but the pain never stopped, it just grew. his mother passed away, peacefully, but that letter was painful to receive. the gang suffered losses and great arguments as they moved around, trying to find a home they could stay at. but it never seemed to settle for them. with the most recent death, mitch has become rather upset and frustrated by the secrets he harbors for those within the gang and the stress he carries on his shoulders. he doesnโ€™t want to go against rasmus, but he truly fears for everyoneโ€™s safety if they continue on this quest for self-destruction.

    Questions โ€”
how old was he when he joined the prewitt gang? | he was fifteen when he got ensnared by the prewitt gang. a rather talented horse wrangler, he worked on various farms breaking horses, training them, catching them, and helping sell them for the farms. he met rasmus when they were stealing a horse from the farm he worked at. he spent a couple days tracking them down and when he finally caught up to them, rasmus was so entertained by his dedication to the horses, he asked him if he wanted a job within their group. for some reason, mitch agreed. he's been part of the gang for 25 years.

how does he feel about william marrell's death? | this death hit a bit too close to home for mitch. he wasn't really thrilled about having such an inexperienced member of the gang on a train robbery, but he didn't think it was going to result in his death. there was nothing that could be done from him to have prevented it as he was on the opposite side of the train, but he still has a lot of emotions about it. he was one of the ones to inform mrs. marrell and it was hard to see her so upset.

what does he think the group should do? | honestly, he doesn't know. he has been an outlaw longer than he hasn't, but he knows that their time is running out. there are only so many places within the country that don't have their faces on a bounty board and he is starting to get a bit tired of running. but his loyalty to the gang is unmatched, which has caused inner turmoil within his heart. his concern about carmen's future is leading him to wonder if the end of the gang would be the best thing for them.

how does he feel about the move they just went on? | it was pretty rough, especially due to the crying of william's wife and the fact that everyone was incredibly somber. serenity gulch is a nice place though, the mountains and rivers are comforting to him and he feels almost like he could make a home somewhere close by. he would never say that out loud though.

weapon. two lemat revolvers | she wields these on the rare occasion she draws them. she doesn't like using guns but she's more comfortable using these smaller ones than a large rifle or shotgun. she took them from her late husband before she left to join the gang. there were a total of four but she gave one to leonora and the other to rasmus as a present.

notable items. sketchbooks | various sketchbooks can be found among her things, filled with detailed drawings, sketches, and paintings of places they've lived and members of the gang. she likes to paint in order to unwind and calm down, but sometimes she does it for a gift, especially for families who have lost loved ones in the gang. she makes some money selling them in towns as they move about and she puts that into personal savings whenever she can.

virtues. despite her icy shield, iris is someone who has very deep and sensitive feelings, which often get hurt. still, she is a very kind-hearted woman who takes care of others and protects them fiercely, physically and emotionally. she does her best to help those in need and is always thinking about how to help those within in the group. organized and strategic, she is incredibly smart and holds the gang together like glue, keeping the camp from falling apart and the members from getting sick or going hungry by keeping everything stocked.

    Family โ€”
katherine fairbanks | mother | unknown
katherine wasn't happy when she discovered she was pregnant with iris. unwanted since her conception, the woman made little plans for her child and simply left her on the doorsteps of an orphanage in a small crate and nothing else. no clothes, no blankets, not even a name of her own. katherine never met iris and she only knows who her mother is thanks to her father's sharp memory.

lester cormack | father | unknown
lester wasn't a father to iris, but he did push her in the direction of the prewitt gang when he stumbled upon her. the trademark cormack hair had passed to the girl and so he knew that she was his, especially when he could see her mother's stubbornness in her. so he encouraged her to leave the orphanage, insinuating that he would take her in as he was her only blood relative. but all he wanted was the money the orphanage gave her as pocket change and he left her in the company of undesirables. the last they saw each other was when he gave her leonora.

    leonora cormack | half-sister | alive
iris didn't know leonora existed until the ten-year-old showed up on her doorstep with their shared father behind her. she wasn't excited to take care of a child, let alone one that lester gave her, but having experienced the pain of growing up without parents, she couldn't abandon her. while sisters, iris became somewhat of a mother to leonora and guided her as she grew up.

phineas van orman | husband | deceased
a man who possessed a silver tongue and a pocket full of gold, he came from europe with many rare horses in tow. he had hired the prewitt gang frequently and that's where he met iris. he fell for the fiery woman and pursued her as often as he could. he was a kind man for a while but his true colors showed throughout their marriage. let's just say, he deserved the end he got.

    Relationships โ€”
rasmus prewitt | he was 21 years old when they met for the first time and from that moment, he decided to take her under his wing. he did his best to raise her in the gang and taught her everything she needed to know for survival. as she got older she became an important part of their cons and got them some pretty high profile cases. though everyone was family in the gang, they had a complicated relationship when she was in her twenties and began to explore leaving the gang for a 'normal' life. anything between them since that point in time has been fleeting and behind closed doors. she has no feelings towards rasmus other than gratitude for him allowing her back into the gang.

    History โ€”
    TW: pregnancy loss, DV
history. thereโ€™s a lot to learn as a child who is given up willingly by their parents. for iris, it taught her how to rely on herself and follow the rules. growing up without the influence of her mother or father but knowing they were still alive, well, it was a rather troubling emotion for her. despite quite literally growing up in an orphanage, she didnโ€™t quite understand the meaning of being thrown away. for a while, her innocent mind kept her in the dark and gave her daydreams of her parents realizing their mistakes and taking her back into their arms. it seemed like this was the case when she had just turned 10 years old and was told to put on her best clothes and pack her small suitcase.

being brought down the creaking and rotting stairs, she saw a somewhat nervous red-haired man in the lobby area, his fingers twisting and pulling on the worn cap he held. she had never seen him in her life, and nor had he ever seen her, but he could recognize her as soon as she saw him. โ€œnow, thereโ€™s a cormack if iโ€™ve ever seen one!โ€. his voice wasnโ€™t fatherly at all, it was light and shifty, almost as if he were playing a part. iris had been uncomfortable but somewhat relieved at the idea she would at least be living with a family member who wanted her. maybe he didnโ€™t know where she was until now and had been searching desperately for years.

her romantic ideas as to why lester had collected her were quickly shattered when he placed her on the back of the dusty old horse and brought them both to a dingy home. it was thick with smoke, liquor, and something rather metallic. (as she grew older she later learned it was the smell of blood.) he pulled his bright-eyed daughter to his chest and hugged her, promising a life of love and happiness, right after he paid a debt. the girl was none the wiser and certainly hadnโ€™t noticed the expert hand that had slipped into her pocket and taken out the money she had saved for her entire life at the orphanage.

the door closed behind him, and she never saw him again. for hours she sat on her small case and waited, stomach growling in contempt, her throat rather scratchy from the lack of water and the polluted air. she felt rather hopeless and confused until a pair of scuffed boots fell into her line of sight and as she dragged her gaze up, she met the eyes of a young rasmus prewitt. his dark curls clung to his face, due to alcohol or sweat, she couldnโ€™t tell, but she knew his eyes held the same abandonment and confusion that hers did. she was a reflection of him and without so much as an argument, he gathered her things and invited her to meet his friends. the rest simply fell into place like dominos.

life within the prewitt gang was exhilarating and irritating at the same time. iris often mothered and took care of people twice her age or half her age. there was little in between. she grew up in dirt and grime but still managed to keep herself clean and presentable, like a lady who wasnโ€™t running with outlaws. her looks and natural smarts became an advantage as she helped distract folks while the others stole goods, or she learned about rich people and their houses. it was easy, albeit stressful. she rarely stole, but when she did it was books. iris was fascinated by literature and knowledge, often sneaking into libraries or peopleโ€™s homes to take books. sometimes she even posed as a student in school in order to grab school books.

by the age of 20, iris had accomplished a lot within the gang and while she was happy with them, she was missing something. cue phineas van orman. a horse breeder from europe who had many expensive and rare horses on his property often fancied hiring the prewitt gang to encourage competition to seek jobs elsewhere. because of this, he often met with iris and seemingly fell head over heels for her. he was on his hands and knees with words of love on his lips, diamond rings in his hands, and beautiful horses behind him, just begging for her to marry him. he promised security, education, wealth, safety, and a home that didnโ€™t have to travel around. so she accepted. rasmus was not pleased by this and they fought quite a lot over her decision to leave the gang. nobody could stop iris, so she left. she married phineas and settled down, merely content with this new life.

her romantic dreams of a life with phineas faded after the first year of marriage. his kindness and sweetness soon turned bitter and harsh, almost as if prompted by the prewitt gang having moved away from the surrounding areas. insults were often hurled at iris but she didnโ€™t let them sink into the iron armor she had built up over the years. there was no place for sensitivity as an outlaw so he couldnโ€™t hurt her that way. her lack of response or distress seemed to trigger him and phineas began to lay hands on her. it was always random, sending iris into a dazed state, unsure of what caused the outburst.

she had little ability to prepare before he struck, often not doing anything and still getting hit. she bit her tongue and held her head high, despite the bruises that decorated her freckled flesh. iris refused to back down or break, knowing that the wealth and status she had acquired as his wife was the only thing saving her from destitution or jail. but he never seemed to stop, even when she was pregnant. there had been a slight lull in the abuse after she told him, but due to the fact she had gotten sick when making him dinner, he couldnโ€™t hold back.

that night is a blur of blood and darkness for iris. when she came to, she had no idea what day it was and barely could see due to the swelling of her face. she lost the pregnancy a few days later and something inside of her snapped. bloodied hands left streaks around the bathroom as she wailed and screamed, ripping down everything she could and throwing what was breakable. whatever patience she had snapped in her that day and she couldnโ€™t take it anymore. so while her husband was off delivering a couple of horses, she prepared herself for a life-changing event. she wrote letters, packed bags, and did her best to figure out what to do in case the plan backfired.

with a gun in hand and a chair in front of the bedroom door, she waited for him. heavy footsteps and a cheerful voice echoed within the house as her husband climbed the stairs, happily talking about how much money he made off the horses and how he was excited about the well-deserved dinner she was going to make him. it nagged on her throbbing brain more than she would even admit but frankly, she didnโ€™t have to say a word to him. time seemed to slow as she held up the shotgun, reddened eyes trained on the chest of phineas as it was revealed. a blood-soaked finger pulled the trigger twice. one after the other, two bullets practically exploded in his chest. his body was in the hallway and didnโ€™t even twitch. she left him there for a while, not even bothering to clean up the large pool of blood that formed around him.

the next morning she took care of it the best she could, hiding his body in a casket that had come in a wagon that he bought (stolen of course) and kept it in the basement. she locked the door and never said a word to anyone. she took care of everything, the business, the finances, and everything transferred to her name, thanks to a letter written and signed by phineas. it all was going according to plan until lester cormack showed up unannounced with a ten-year-old girl in hand. โ€œwhatโ€™s with you and taking your kids somewhere strange at ten?โ€ iris had been gifted her half-sister due to lester not being able to raise her himself. so she took leonora in and raised her within the van orman house, her husband still hidden in that basement.

after two years of living there with leonora, people began to whisper about iris having killed her husband as nobody had heard from him, not even his connections in europe. so she did what she had to do in order to survive. she contacted rasmus prewitt. it didnโ€™t take very long before that familiar face was on her doorstep, eyes hardened from life on the road, but a charming smile nonetheless. they talked for hours in irisโ€™ study as she explained the situation, determined to keep the land and business but simply allow her workers to run it as she was worried about giving it up. it took a lot of planning but they managed to get phineasโ€™ coffin to a graveyard, the owner having owed the gang a favor, and he was buried without hassle. the horse farm arrangements were set up quite tightly so that iris would get her money and it would continue to be in her name until she passed, and then it went to leonora.

the girls left their home and moved back into the prewitt gang, which wasnโ€™t that difficult to adjust to. iris quickly took charge of the camp and how it ran, making sure that everyone was fed, clothed, medicated, and had arms to defend themselves. now in her mid-thirties, she is determined to have a successful career out west as she plans to move the farm there and live out the rest of her days without worry.

    Questions โ€”
how old was she when she joined the prewitt gang? | iris was around 10 years old when she was dropped into the lap of the prewitt gang for the first time. she was 25 when she rejoined the group with leonora in tow.

how does she feel about william marrell's death? | unnecessary. she was more angry than upset when the group came back and told them about his passing. she got into a heated argument with rasmus that night about how he was reckless with the young members of the gang and they couldn't keep pretending like it was okay for a twenty-year-old to die on a robbery.

what does she think the group should do? | she definitely thinks it would be wise for them to curb their outlaw ways and simply settle down on some land, but she's not dumb and knows that it's going to be tough for them to do that with the bounties on their heads. she still is trying to talk rasmus into retiring the gang so everyone can focus on raising money for property.

how does she feel about the move? | she's never been to serenity gulch, but it is a small breath of fresh air and for that she's grateful. part of her is worried that it won't last long so she's trying to not get attached.

history + misc

Background.

Manuel Morales was an early member of the Prewitt Gang. Somewhere along the way, he met Esperanza Flores. The pair fell quickly for each other and she ran off from home to join Manuel, eloping the first opportunity they had. Somehow, she wasn't put off by the crime and the violence. As long as she was with Manuel, she was happy. A year later, Carmen joined the family, and by association, the gang.

While the pregnancy was smooth, her birth was difficult. Carmen got stuck, and nothing the doctor did was helping. After several hours of struggle, Carmen was born and was surprisingly healthy. Esperanza was not so lucky. She died moments later.

Her early memories are hazy, but she was raised by her father with help from the handmaidens. Of course, he kept the more gruesome details of gang life from herโ€” she was a child after all. She was kept behind and away from any danger, her father far too scared of losing another person.

When she was four, her life changed. Her father was killed in a in a raid on their camp. She only survived because she was terrified and tucked herself away underneath a wagon, where she remained until Mitch happened to find her. Carmen was left alone with nobody to provide for her, and in Rasmusโ€™s eyes, nobody to earn her keep. There was debate on whether she should remain with the gang or be dropped at the nearest orphanage. Rasmus wasnโ€™t too keen on providing resources to someone that wasnโ€™t contributing to the gang financially. However, Mitch took her in, unofficially adopting her.

She grew into a strong and independent young woman, who was becoming quite an asset to the group. Her sticky fingers were quick and her demeanor was unassuming. Not to mention, she was a pretty great shot. She even got a rifle for her sixteenth birthday.

When she was nineteen, she was officially given the extra duty as a gunwoman (though she's been unofficially doing the job for years), much to Mitch's dismay. The Prewitt Gang is all that she has left in this world. William's death was a devastating blow for everyone. She'd do anything for the gang, but something is starting to nag at her now that they have an opportunity for some normalcy. However, she's too dedicated to go against the majority's wishes. So, until there is a decision, she is going to keep on doing as she is told.

Family.

Manuel Morales (deceased)- Carmen's memories of her father are few and quite hazy. In her mind, he was a heroic figure, taken too soon.

Esperanza Flores (deceased)- Carmen never knew her mother, as she died in childbirth. All she knows about her was that she was a kind woman and that she resembles her.

Character Questions.

How old were they when they joined the Prewitt Gang?

"Well, I was born into it, really. My father was an early member and raised me in it."

How do they feel about William Marrell's death?

"Oh, that just broke my heart. I've known him since he joined us and cannot believe he's gone. I check on his wife occasionally, but I don't think I can do much to help."

What do they think the group should do? Should they go good or stay outlaws?

"This life is all I've ever known. I don't know what a 'normal' life would even be like." She takes a long pause. "However, I can't help but think that William's death may be a sign that something needs to change."

How do they feel about the move they just went on?

"I've moved so many times, I'm used to it. I'm just glad we've escaped the law... for now, at least."

    • Hard-hearted: Some might even say cruel. It's clear just from looking at her that she has endured a lot just to make it to this point. Due to her experiences, she is very closed off towards others and slow to trust them - that's if she ever decides to trust them at all.

Robin Arkwright

ROBIN ARKWRIGHT

Full Name: Robin Arkwright
Alias: โ€˜Firebirdโ€™ or 'Poprocket' - But often used in jest, and only by other members of the camp it seems.
Nicknames: Bobbie - A fond nickname formerly used by her family back home in England. She hadn't heard it for months upon months, but recently, it's started to catch on throughout the Gang, and it makes her happy to hear it again.
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Presents as Cis Female - But itโ€™s not like Robinโ€™s really everโ€ฆ you know, had much of a go at anythingโ€ฆ with anyone actuallyโ€ฆ
Role: Blaster & Thief
-
APPEARANCE
Height:
4.8โ€ - Titchy.
Hair: A pale and sandy blonde.
Eyes: Pale, wishy-washy sort of blue.
Distinguishing Features:
Robin has a naturally gamine-like face, which could arguably be coined as โ€˜strikingโ€™ I suppose. Its androgynous-ness is unusual in an age of such strict and enforced gender norms. Sheโ€™s lost count of how many times sheโ€™s been mistaken for a young boy.
Scars:
A scattering of Linear scars on the back of her hands, and across her knuckles - As expected from any practiced gunman.
Burn And Impact Scar - Starts at the back of her left hand, and travels up her forearm a little. Gained from a (Supposed) controlled blast that was just detonated a little too close to home, literally.
Face Claim: Emma Corrin.
Description:
Robin is short, wiry, and somewhat odd-looking. It doesnโ€™t help that she usually dresses in attire typically intended for men, a fact which usually doesnโ€™t help her standing in polite society, not like that bothers her at all mind you.
Robin has a naturally impish demeanor about her. Either looking like the smuggest, most mischievous looking cat that just got to the cream, or the most woe-begotten troubled and heartbroken orphan youโ€™ve ever seen. Bobbieโ€™s eyes are very expressive, and despite any efforts on her part to conceal or portray otherwise, they regularly convey her true thoughts and feelings on whatever the matter at hand might be.
-
PERSONAL ITEMS
Weapons:

Webley Revolver - A standard issue gun for any British Servicemen, that she somehow managed to smuggle into the states. It wasnโ€™t in very good shape when Robin arrived, but in addition to learning how to actually shoot the damn thing properly, other members of the Gang have taught Robin how to care for weapons properly too.
Hunting Knife - Unexpected, but a steady and necessary must for the life of any self-reliant would-be frontiersman.
-
HORSE
Canary
- A Palamino Morgan Mare
Robin arrived to the gang horseless, and would repeatedly borrow one of the stock wagon horses whenever the occasion arose where she needed to be out and about. But Bobbie played her part, helped out in gang โ€˜outingsโ€™ and saved money from her cut of the job until she finally had enough for a horse of her own. A proud day indeed.
Thus, Canary is, as you might expect, her absolute pride and joy. Apparently, Robin would often help out, and care for the pit-ponies back home, so working with horses comes naturally to her. But more so than this, having an actual horse of her own is just one more big part of that fabled American-Dream for Robin. A horse of her own practically makes her a real live genuine Cowpoke.
Canary herself is a rather calm and quiet horse. She doesnโ€™t make much noise, has a weakness for wild mint, is generally docile and calm to everybody, but seems to love and care for Robin particularly as her chosen human.

Notable Items:
Tinderox with Matches - Always kept in good condition, and plentiful stock. If you need something igniting, Robinโ€™s your galโ€ฆ
Letter Wallet - A worn leather wallet containing all the letters sheโ€™s ever received from home. When she can, Robin keeps it tucked away in a pocket over her heart. How sentimental.
A Red Cardigan - Hand knitted by her Mum. Sheโ€™d wear it more often, but Robinโ€™s terrified of getting it snagged on something, or it being damaged and ruined in general. Also, Burdockโ€™s started to call her โ€˜Little-Robin-Red-Breastโ€™ whenever he sees her wearing it, and her reputation in the gang is foolish enough as it is without him adding anymore fuel to the fire.
A single stick of Dynamite - Sounds comical really, but apparently โ€˜You can never be too sure!โ€™ according to the mad little arsonist herself.

PERSONALITY
Likes:
Toffee, Blue Skies, The camp songs she's learning, American-isms, Tea, big green plains, Dogs, being taken seriously.
Dislikes: Being underground again, Beans, Nobility and all the stupid etiquette that goes with them, chopping tatties, Racoons.
Hobbies: Fivestones, Reading, Fishing (Sheโ€™s trying badly to get Arthur to teach her properly), Sketching.

VICES
Naive
- A charming trait to few, a foolishly dangerous quality to everybody else. Youth undoubtedly plays a somewhat guiltless part in Robins ignorance. But blind faith and a sad yet eager need for praise make up the rest of it. Bobbie will often believe whatever you tell her straight off of the bat, with few to no questions asked whatsoever. Especially if itโ€™s coming from some of the more senior members of the Gang.
Infirm - Not in the mind, but the body. Robinโ€™s upbringing isnโ€™t really the sort that eventually produces people of large statures, and strong bodies. Even when her dietโ€™s good, even with plentiful activity, and lots of good clean American air, Bobbie will never possess a particularly robust constitution, or firm and immovable physical strength. Instead, sheโ€™s short, skinny, and sometimes just canโ€™t seem to catch her breath.
Alone - As the title implies really. Robin has nobody, no family at all, certainly not here in the States anyway. Her Dad died when she was thirteen, and if you ever inquire after her Mum, she just goes rather quiet and sad. All she has left is a brother, who remains home in England. Robin has no kin to care for her, no familial faces to go to for comfort, none save for the Gang of course.

PERSONALITY
Robinโ€™s quite like the camps odd little English exchange student. Larky, playful, eager, well-mannered for the most part, and just a little bit green. Sheโ€™s young, in body and spirit. And therefore at times she is somewhat dense and unfledged. Youthful ignorance has on occasion been the root of accidents, mistakes, some bigger than others.
Bobbieโ€™s a kid who still thinks the West is an unclaimed frontier like all those books and speakers used to say it was. This worldview, while at times endearing, and certainly admirable, is a dream. But, perhaps luckily, her wholehearted belief in such a world is beginning to wane as she grows older, and sees more and more of what the real world truly entails. Robin is, dare I say it, getting savvier by the day. It seems time and hardships spent in the company of the gang are finally wearing the bird down.

VIRTUES
Energetic -
The born virtue of youth, Robin seems to have enough energy for herself and then just about every other member of the gang as well. What she may lack in intellectual or age-graced wits, she gains in enthusiasm and vigor. Always up for a job, or chore, Bobbie can always be counted on for some added zeal and gusto.
Professional Arsonist - You need a train tunnel sealed? Robinโ€™s your bird. You need a hole blown into the side of the local bank? Robinโ€™s your bird? You need to know whoโ€™s responsible for igniting the camp's supply of lamp oil again? Robinโ€™s yourโ€ฆ Oh, wait.
A skill learnt from the best, her ol' Dad, thereโ€™s practically nothing Bobbie canโ€™t explode, ignite, disintegrate, or at least thoroughly decimate to some earnest degree.
Wily - Something she has to be really, if physical strength remains unobtainable. While Robin may not be able to hold her own in a fist-fight for too long, she sure is good at getting out of the way of them in the first place. Bobbieโ€™s fast and slippery, and all in all quite good at being evasive. If a fight breaks out, Robin can be relied on to get out of the way quickly, and efficiently.

Burdock Wilson

BURDOCK WILSON

Full Name:
Burdock Wilson
Nicknames: โ€˜Birdieโ€™, But only sometimes. Iโ€™d make sure you were on his good side first.
Age: 55
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Role: Camp Cook, and Gunman when needed,

APPEARENCE
Height:
6โ€™2โ€, Mans built like a goddamned Sequoia.
Hair: At a guess, once a warm chestnut-y brown, now more faded, silver and grayed with time.
Eyes: A tired dull kind of blue.
Distinguishing Features: The Burdock โ€˜Lookโ€™ is infamous among the gang.
A heavy brow rests over a knowing, and ever-watchful gaze. Via just a slight turn of his brows, a crinkle in the corner of his eyes, or perhaps just the speed at which he blinks, Burdock can express a magnitude of thoughts and feelings.
Scars: Numerous, some big, some small, too common in their origin to bear explaining further. Save for one, that isโ€ฆ
An ugly one, on the left side of his face. It's large, and despite being well healed, still somehow looks painful. Itโ€™s either from a bullet wound that got infected and enlarged somehow, or perhaps a knife wound. Whatever the case, it was gained when he was trying to save his dear Connie. And thatโ€™s all most get to know about it really.
Face Claim: Clancy Brown, specifically when he was more middle-aged however.
Description: He's a big old commodious type of thing, with a broad stocky frame. Age has weathered him, as it does all things. But a life as lively as his has kept him in relatively decent shape. Seems he ain't tuning senile yet at the very least. In a way, Burdockโ€™s a man of repeating contrasts. While tall, and almost Herculean in stature, heโ€™s still somehow soft, and pudgy. Glaring and broody, but warm and gentle too.
Heโ€™s almost a bit like a bear really. When his shackles are raised, and his livelihood is threatened, Burdockโ€™s as grizzly and vicious as any other wild animal. But when comfortable in his home, at peace beside his family, the man can be as mellow and kind as a Teddy-Bear.

PERSONAL ITEMS

Weapons:
- Hawken Plains Rifle -
Considered a more old fashioned rifle these days, but itโ€™s the type of gun Burdock grew up using, and the type he knows best.
- Colt Army Model Revolver - A standard issue sidearm to US troops from a few decades or so ago. Unsurprising for Burdock to have one then, makes you wonder which side he fought on thoughโ€ฆ assuming that he fought at all at least anyway.
- Hunting / Cooking Knife - Expected for any of the gang members. Burdock's knife however is designed with cooking in mind also. His knifeโ€™s edge has the signature curve of a cleaver, making it useful for both chopping onions, as well as rivals.

Notable Items:
- Wedding Ring -
A plain gold band. Burdock wears it in his sleep, when he bathes, when he cooks, and heโ€™ll be wearing it when he dies too.
- Photograph - Taken long ago, judging by how much younger Burdock looks. Despite the pictureโ€™s age, itโ€™s been kept immaculately, with little to no signs of fade. In the photo sits a burgeoning Burdock, and a young woman by side. The woman is laughing, and sheโ€™s pretty too, with hooded brown eyes, and skin much darker than Burdock's.
- Old Shawl - A woman's shawl, deep maroony red in colour, with a popular paisley pattern printed on it. Although itโ€™s clearly a dear possession of Burdocks, heโ€™s surprisingly content to lend it out to others throughout the camp. Just so long as itโ€™s returned in as good a condition as it was let out. Seems heโ€™s happier with it used with kindness and good intentions in mind, as opposed to letting it gather dust in some forgotten corner.
- Cookbook - โ€˜Exquisite Cuisine for a Travelling Lifestyle, By Michel Du Plessisโ€™. Containing all your old Favorites, as well as new culinary adventures! Dried Apple Pie, Lob-Scouse, Bread-Pudding, and Oxtail Soup, Now with real Ox!โ€™
For Burdock, the book was an extravagant, and technically completely unnecessary purchase. But however much he might deny the fact, he cares for the gang, and wants to see them fed well beyond almost anything. So, he brought the recipe book in an attempt to try and spoil his family every now and then.

HORSE
Pepperbush

An American Cream Draft Horse, often Pepper for short. A big girl, originally intended to be a farmhouse, but deemed too naggy to work alongside people. Thus she was put for sale as a bargain, and eagerly purchased by the gang to act as a general wagon-horse. But Burdock, ever the adamant soft touch, set out to befriend the mare. And after a year or so of constant work and attention, Pepperbush is now undeniably his horse. As long as Burdockโ€™s around, Pepperbush is now reluctantly civil to other people. Sheโ€™s still used amongst the wagon teams when the Gang requires a move, but is otherwise Burdockโ€™s gal.

PERSONALITY
Likes:
Napping, Chilli, Cornbread, Vinegar Pie, Prizefighting, Campfire stories.
Dislikes: Hardtack, Wine (To drink), Rustling, Opera, Big Cities, Formal Ties, Repeating himself.
Hobbies: Wild Foraging, Cooking (Whoโ€™d have thunk...), Dominoes, Writing (He was taught reading and writing as an older adult, and now takes great pride and joy in noting recipes and cooking ideas he comes up with).

VICES
- Grouch -
You ask other old timers in the Gang, and apparently itโ€™s something Burdockโ€™s always been a little bit of. But, with Connieโ€™s passing, itโ€™s a trait thatโ€™s grown in measure and regularity. If he wakes up on the wrong side of bed, doesnโ€™t get enough coffee, or sometimes for no real good reason at all, Burdock can at times be a right mardy arse. He gets snappy, and mean, and worse of all, sometimes doesnโ€™t even bother making a desert anymore.
- Ambivalent - He had passion once, zeal and spirit for the gangs goals and ideals. Now all faded, leaving bitter and salted realism in its place. Burdock these days remains frustratingly quiet when it comes to big decisions made by the gang. Even if he has an opinion, he refuses to air it.
- Cautious - Which could be seen as a blessing sometimes I suppose. But in the rapid quickfire life of a Prewitt gang member, itโ€™s a quality thatโ€™s not very overly welcomed. If thereโ€™s any chance of a death, or any great amount of danger, Burdock wonโ€™t be for it. Heโ€™ll, for once, voice his opinion against such choices, and sometimes even try and persuade others out of partaking in such activities.

VIRTUES
- Candor -
Burdock is always open, honest, and fair. He usually finds himself acting as peacekeeper within the gang, and is more than happy to take up this role. Heโ€™s a man capable of making judgments free from discrimination or dishonesty, and tries his darndest to stay that way.
- Gentle - Sometimes, as a lamb. He cradles soft things with the practiced delicate touch of a mother, speaks calmly and quietly to any and all who need a kind voice to listen to every now and then, and tries his best to never answer anger with anger in turn. No man's perfect of course, but Burdock tries his bestโ€ฆ
- Faithful - Specifically, as opposed to loyal. The two are similar, but in this care succinctly different. Burdock does not choose to follow anything, faith, society, or man, with any sort of unwavering blind loyalty. What if that loyalty led him right off of the edge of a cliff? Or worse still, led someone he cares for over? Burdock is faithful to those he cares for, and to be faithful is to follow and support with love, not loyalty. If his family needs help to be better, he will be there. If they need assistance in unabashed violence and destruction? Thatโ€™s a different matter.

ETC.
Age has weathered him, roughly too. Over the years, heโ€™s eaten his fill of experience, and gotten plenty full too. At this point in his life, sometimes, words arenโ€™t even needed. Gruff, pretty quiet, and oftentimes completely unreadable. Burdock isn't really the enthusiastic charmer he may have once been in his prime. Although that said, don't be completely fooled by the rugged exterior. Just because he's a little rusty, doesn't by any means mean he's stupid. There's a deep-rooted cunning hidden beneath that hat.

    HISTORY:
    • Second born child.
    • Close friends and neighbors with a girl named Sarah.
    • Sarah and Constance started to see each other in secret in their teens and into their 20's.
    • Sarah was proposed to by a suitor and she accepted with excitement.
    • Their relationship was found out when Sarah revealed to her fiance that she had been with a woman.
    • Constance's family found this out through Sarah's parents and they punished Constance by forcing a proposal onto her.
    • Her future husband was finishing their house so the wedding would not happen till then.
    • She was locked in the house and only allowed out with her parents or brother.
    • She packed her bags, readied the family mare, and fled in the late night.
    • Visited Sarah that devolved into an argument that broke out into a vicious fight.
    FAMILY:
    • Father
    • Mother
    • Brother, older
    RELATIONSHIPS: TBA?

    Character Questionsโ€‹
How old were they when they joined the Prewitt Gang?
    23 years old.
How do they feel about William Marrell's death?
Shaken, Constance had grown close to William over the years and maybe even saw him as something like a brother. This is the first if not one of the first deaths that had affected her personally. She was frustrated with Remus but never took it out on him, instead gave the cold shoulder to most everyone until the gang arrived at Serenity Gulch.
What do they think the group should do? Should they go good or stay outlaws?
Stay outlaws. She is very opposed to becoming "civilized" and finds the idea of settling down terrifying. It is not that Constance wants to live off of thievery and killing, but she fears what she will have to sacrifice to "become good".
How do they feel about the move they just went on?
Exhausted and irritated, as she despises major changes. She had gotten happily settled in Crow's Alley despite her distaste for being close to people. But now that they have settled into Serenity Gulch, Constance isn't complaining as much.

LIKES: Animals! All sorts, really. Sunrise and sunset. Enjoys a bit of classical music.

DISLIKES: Meaningless cruelty. Torture. The sound of gunshots. The rain

HOBBIES: Likes a spot of gardening; would love to grow crops for the gang. Loves to read and learn.

VICES: Ira can get far too into his own head when it comes to morality. He could stay up all night long pondering right and wrong, even though he knows it isn't black and white. Embarrassingly, he can also be a bit of a coward. He isn't a soldier or a gunman and has no desire to be one, particularly due to his lack of bravery. Some people find Ira a little hard to get along with, as he can come across a little antisocial; he certainly seems to prefer the company of animals to that of humans.

VIRTUES: If Ira can be called one thing, it is reliable. Give him a job to do - within his skillset - and be assured, it will be done. Ira is also a reasonable man; he can see when an animal deserves a peaceful death rather than to suffer, and he is ready and willing to make that call. He is an intelligent man who gets the job done without a complaint. Ira is well-tempered and honest, very rarely becoming angry or frustrated.

h

istory.

TRIGGER WARNING - ANIMAL DEATH/EUTHANASIA

Ira was born to a pastor and his homemaker wife, and despite being an only child, his upbringing was a strict and relatively loveless one. His mother cared the most about praying and serving his father, and his father cared more about spreading the word of the lord than bonding with his son. Ira never minded too much - he would pick flowers and sit in the church, admiring the stained glass while his father rambled on about something or other. From a young age, Ira had an innate curiosity for bigger things than his father believed in. As he got older, he became interested in science and biology, particularly when it concerned animals. His father was not a fan of these endeavours - he wanted Ira to follow in his footsteps and preach the way he did. Ira sat through various Bible teachings, but none of it ever really stuck.

The family had a dog, Moses, Ira's best friend, who had been around longer than Ira had been alive. By the time Ira was 14, Moses was a year older, and he was struggling. Ira begged his father to put Moses out of his misery, but his father refused, stating that Moses would go when his time came. Eventually, Moses lost use of his legs and was in constant pain, and Ira couldn't take it anymore. One night, whilst his parents slept, Ira carried Moses out to a secluded field. Sobbing the entire time, Ira gave Moses the quick, painless death that he deserved. Once home, he deliberately left the gate open, and his parents awoke assuming that poor Moses had run away.

Despite the pain and guilt that followed Ira after this decision, he realised that this was his true passion in life - not killing animals, necessarily, but ensuring that the life they had was of quality. At the age of 18, Ira began an apprenticeship at the veterinarian's office in his town, much to his parents' dismay. Ira loved his work, but found the variety in it was lacking. Often, the only people who could afford veterinary care were the rich folks, for their horses. Ira wanted to help the stray dogs, the farmer's horse, the shopkeep's cat.

It was at this point - around the age of 23 - that Ira decided he would become a travelling veterinarian, treating animals in towns for cheaper than their local vets. His parents were quite outraged at this decision, particularly as they had given Ira a comfortable life, which he was now throwing away. Ira was more than happy to live in a tent for the next few years, to do whatever it took to help as many people and animals as possible. Whilst preparing for his journey, his father suffered a heart attack and passed away, with himself and Ira not on the best of terms. Ira, despite their relationship, was quite heartbroken, and for the first time, found himself wondering about all this Heaven and Hell business.

Still, Ira could not abandon his passion and left his grieving mother to pursue his work. He left his mother with the majority of his savings from his work at his town's veterinarian office, just to make sure that she wouldn't want for anything, at least not for a while. For years, Ira did exactly what he had planned. He moved from town to town, treating animals, and euthanising those that needed it. He didn't make much money, but the townspeople would often gift him food or firewood as a thank-you for his services.

29 years old, Ira was travelling between towns when he came across a man and his fallen horse. Immediately, Ira came to his aid, and treated the horse's injuries, as well as giving the man - one Rasmus Prewitt - a ride to where he had been going. He then met Rasmus' associates, and before he could make his leave, was propositioned. Ira was a little overwhelmed at first; he was no criminal, and whilst he understood the societal issues that made someone a criminal, he wasn't sure if he could see himself on that side. But he had looked in the faces of those who asked him to join them, to aid them with his vet services, and truly, how could Ira say no?

Q

uestions.

How old was he when he
joined the Prewitt's gang?

Ira was twenty-nine years old.

How does he feel about
William Marrell's death?

Largely disappointed for a young man who had an entire life to live, but also incredibly nervous for what it could and will mean for the gang.

What does he think the
group should do?

In a perfect world, Ira would love if the entire group could 'go good' and live long, fear-free lives. However, he is also painfully aware that for many of them, that is no longer possible.

How does he feel about
the recent move?

Ira will follow the gang wherever they go, and honestly, he doesn't mind a change of scenery to a bit of a quieter place.
