overview.
"My past is my own. And I've only ever been good at one thing. I did that thing for bad, but now I do it for good.” ━ Natasha Romanoff
Children, born with scientific enhancements, are trained from an early age to become elite assassins. But what happens when they uncover the dark truth behind their origins and begin to question the world they've been molded to serve?
"The Children" refers to a group of boys and girls who were subjected to a life of experimentation before birth, injected with revolutionary scientific serums in the womb. Upon birth, they were immediately torn from their mothers and brought to a hidden laboratory, where their lives became an ongoing series of experiments, tests, and observations. This clandestine operation, spearheaded by the brilliant but morally bankrupt Dr. Otto-Schmidt, became known as "Project Bluelight." From infancy, The Children were conditioned to become the most lethal covert operatives the world had ever seen. Alongside their scientific enhancements, they underwent brutal physical training under the International Coalition of Assassins (ICA), an organization deeply rooted in the shadows of global power and operating in an undersea base that took near a century to build. The ICA, in partnership with Dr. Otto-Schmidt, split The Children by gender: boys were sent to the Sparrow Academy, while girls were consigned to the Widow Academy. The Sparrows were located in the Scottish country-side where their female counterparts were home bound to rural France. Both academies churned out obedient, highly skilled agents loyal to their cause.
Yet behind the scenes, there was a third division, one even more secretive: The Wolf Academy. Unlike their enhanced counterparts, the Wolves possessed no special abilities. They were veterans, hardened by years of service and experience, making them some of the most dangerous operatives in the ICA’s ranks. While the Sparrows and Widows represented the future, the Wolves embodied the legacy of the ICA. As Dr. Otto-Schmidt’s obsession with creating the perfect assassin grew, he launched a new initiative: The Phoenix Academy. This was where the most promising Wolves were subjected to even more rigorous testing and dangerous enhancements, creating a new generation of operatives. These Phoenix agents were envisioned as the ultimate weapon—refined, powerful, and loyal. Both these academies are located in Germany, hidden from the public and even the governing body, and operate in the same facility.
For over thirty years, these experiments and trainings continued in secrecy, producing three generations of enhanced assassins. But little do most know, the true purpose behind Project Bluelight remains hidden. As some of The Children begin to question their purpose and loyalty, they edge closer to the truth, and the secrets they uncover threaten to unravel everything they've known. The deeper they dig, the more they realize that their creation was just the beginning. The rebellion within The Children isn’t just about escaping their fates anymore. They are fighting to prevent further forceful experimentation, forever twisting a child's fate. They want to stop the horrid Dr. Otto-Schmidt and ICA.
Otto-Schmidt, however, remains one step ahead, constantly evolving his methods and pushing forward with the Phoenix Protocol. His obsession with perfection is relentless, and he's willing to sacrifice anything—even the lives of his most successful creations—to achieve his twisted vision. The Children who rebel against Otto-Schmidt aren’t just trying to free themselves anymore. They're battling against a dystopian future where individuality, humanity, and freedom are on the verge of perishing. Otto-Schmidt’s vision is not just a nightmare for them—it's a threat to the entire world. And if they don’t stop him, his engineered army will reshape humanity in his image—forever.

"FAQ"
Where will this story take place?
The story will take place in modern day Europe to begin. I've still yet to decide on a particular country/city to put everyone in, but as of now that's the general idea.
Who is (are) the antagonist(s)?
The antagonists will be a small group of four Phoenix/Wolf students. These will be experienced "war veterans" who give their undying loyalty to the Dr. and the ICA, and will be a very difficult challenge for our protagonists to take on. I'm still putting things together with them, but if you're interested in playing an antagonist role, let me know! They will help be the driving force for our story so help is much appreciated! More details on them will come soon.
What was the inspiration for this story?
Honestly, I've been on a sort of Spy kick recently. The story and elements take inspiration from the MCU (Winter Soldier & Black Widow movies in particular, and the recent trailer for The Thunderbolts), Hitman (the ICONIC video game series), HANNA (the Amazon tv show), and the John Wick franchise. A lot of things came to play with this story and I want to fully credit the original ideas that eventually compiled unto one another to birth this.
What were our characters put through?
That's for you to decide! Though a lot of our backstories will be very similar, individual trials and tests occurred for your character's abilities to manifest and hone. Additionally, our characters will have different personalities, and I plan on letting you have freedom in writing how your character came to free themself from the Dr. and ICA. One common thing that I can certainly say our characters will know is going to be what's called the: Dark Room. It's essentially the "training ground" that our characters spent time in training and sparring and all of that fun stuff. Also, your character's ability will evolve (of course) and I leave that up to you to decide how so, as you'll see in the Character Sheet skeleton later on.
Who is Dr. Otto-Schmidt and what motivates him?
Without spoiling much behind the Doctor's motivations, he's essentially your worst nightmare in an evil scientist. And, essentially, he wants to create the perfect species and fast track human evolution.
What is the ICA and what is their role?
The ICA is an expansive organization that carries out dark deeds globally. They are comprised of many people, from scientists and bureaucrats, to operatives and specialists, to the very people that one poises conspiracies about. They are nasty people who want to dictate and control the world's actions and peace. They seek to bring peace through force, but understand that it takes time and many suspicious things to happen. The ICA also can be contracted by other organizations and individuals to carry out such heinous activities, but really if it aligns with their agenda or if it would have little consequence to affecting their agenda.

THE SOLDIER!
taken
The role of The Soldier is that they are physically enhanced beyond peak-human levels. Their skin, muscles, and bones were genetically modified to be much denser than an average person's. This, in turn, enhanced their strength, speed, durability, and endurance. And while their body is much denser than a typical person's, it's also very flexible, allowing them to be much more agile and bend in uncomfortable ways easily. In addition, their lactic acid build-up is much slower, and their bodies don't require the same oxygen levels as other people, which gives them greater lung capacity and lessens the need to breathe just as frequently.
THE CYBORG!
open!
The Cyborg is, in a sense, the predecessor to The Soldier. The serum administered to The Cyborg was a prototype version of the serum that would later be issued to The Soldier. There were a few complications with the prototype drug, though. One major birth defect was that The Cyborg had an arm growing at a decelerated rate compared to the other. Because Dr. Otto-Schmidt couldn't use that, he decided to amputate the faulty arm and replace it with a cybernetic prosthetic. The prosthetic is made up of a vast collection of metals and alloys. And, in addition to the cybernetic arm, The Cyborg is slightly enhanced beyond peak human levels in similar regards to The Soldier.
THE SCARECROW!
taken
The Scarecrow is a unique rendition of enhanced killers' lineup, as their special enhancement is a unique psychological attack. Their special ability is to secrete a pheromone through their dermis orifices, which become airborne and induce terrifying hallucinations on a target. The hallucinations are so surreal and have been known to cause the victims to even take their own lives sometimes. It's worth noting that the hallucinations caused usually stem from the targets' trauma and/or phobias.
THE BIOHAZARD!
taken
The Biohazard, like The Scarecrow, is practically a bioweapon. Their unique ability lies within their own bodily fluid, specifically their saliva. In their saliva lies a deadly paralytic toxin that—if left without treatment and the proper remedy—could cause death. The toxin, however, does not affect themselves, as their body produces antitoxins. This keeps them from reacting to the paralytic poison.
THE HOUND!
taken
The Hound is the subject with enhanced senses, particularly their sense of smell, sight, and hearing. Their senses are so acute and precise that it's comparable to that of a dog. What's also unprecedented is their memory. They can distinctly remember and associate certain sounds, frequencies, scents, and colors with people or events.
THE SHARPSHOOTER!
taken
The Sharpshooter is precisely that: a sharpshooter. One of Dr. Otto-Schmidt's early works, the serum that would create the Sharpshooter, enhances the synaptic firings between hand and eye coordination. In doing so, the Sharpshooter is quick to aim & shoot and misses seldom. This also enhances their basic reflexes, giving them ample time to respond in hand-to-hand combat scenarios.
THE SCHOLAR!
taken
The Scholar's abilities are rooted in unparalleled cognitive enhancements. Their mind operates like a hyper-advanced supercomputer, allowing them to process, analyze, and recall vast amounts of information with flawless precision. Not only do they possess a perfect photographic memory, but they also have the ability to learn new skills, languages, and complex systems in mere moments. Every piece of information they’ve ever encountered—whether seen, heard, or felt—is stored and accessible in an instant. The Scholar’s intelligence extends beyond raw data recall; they are capable of analyzing and predicting outcomes with terrifying accuracy, often seeing several moves ahead in any situation, whether it be combat, strategy, or social manipulation.
THE CHAMELEON!
taken
The Chameleon possesses the unique ability to manipulate the pigmentation and texture of their physical appearance to blend seamlessly into any environment. They can alter their facial and body dimensions in minor ways; the color of their hair, eyes, and skin; and can even alter their voice. This goes far beyond simple camouflage—it extends to becoming virtually invisible in any setting, from crowded city streets to dense jungles. The Chameleon’s adaptive body also allows them to alter the texture and even temperature of their skin, making them undetectable to advanced thermal imaging and tactile sensors. Their abilities also grant them subtle psychological and behavioral mimicry, allowing them to adopt the mannerisms, voice, and behavior of others for infiltration purposes.
THE UNDYING!
open!
This subject's blood clots and heals wounds at an accelerated rate. Small cuts heal in seconds, while deeper wounds take minutes to hours. The character can push their body beyond typical limits in combat, knowing that injuries will heal faster than normal. However, this rapid healing requires immense caloric intake and energy, and overuse of the ability could lead to exhaustion. Their body is able to absorb kinetic energy too, and redirect it to their muscles for an additional push of force.
rules
rules.
rule one.
While the characters possess extraordinary abilities powers should not be overused or treated as the end all, be all. In dangerous or tense situations, creativity and strategic thinking should guide how characters wield their abilities. Limiting powers in certain contexts keeps the narrative balanced and realistic within the world. The roleplay prioritizes character growth, relationships, and personal struggles over simply showcasing abilities. Characters are more than just their powers, so motivations, fears, and personal dilemmas must play a significant role in their development. Show how their mutations affect their psyche and interactions with others, especially as their abilities develop further.
rule two.
I don't care much about word count, but I do ask that posts move the story along rather than focusing too much on reacting. Plotting and communication will be key. I will give FOUR to FIVE days to post once it's your turn depending on posting group sizes.
rule three.
The dynamics between characters should be fluid and complex. Trust and betrayal, loyalty, and suspicion can shift as characters form alliances or rivalries. No character is required to be strictly a hero or villain; moral gray areas are encouraged, especially as characters and their personal motives, the academy’s expectations, the world around them, and their evolving powers.
rule four.
No character is allowed to control the outcome of another player’s actions or dictate injuries without consent. Power-playing (forcing actions on another character without allowing them to respond) is prohibited. Psychological warfare and stealth tactics (such as the Scarecrow’s fear-inducing pheromones or the Chameleon’s camouflage) can significantly impact combat. However, these abilities require careful planning. Targets of psychological attacks must react realistically, experiencing fear or confusion, but they can overcome these effects with strong willpower or preparation.
rule five.
As of right now, there is only one GM for this story (me, lol) and I will do my best to drive the story for the group and for teams—if that occurs. However, subplots are welcome and collaborative worldbuilding is encouraged HIGHLY. For example, creating new locations, factions, or minor NPCs that fit within the established setting would be appreciated and welcomed. This will help everyone feel more connected to the world and give them a sense of ownership over the unfolding narrative. Just run your ideas by me and we can talk further!
