ANNIKOR, AHWIN 12TH 4653DE AT 17:52

? CITIZENS, THE WAR IS OVER. ? These long-awaited words were spoken by the late King Undrla of Alluum at the beginning of his Armistice Proclamation, a speech delivered only hours after the end of the Necromancer Rebellion, a war that had plagued his homeland for over fifty years.

Thousands died. Thousands more were injured. The nation itself was tarnished from the bloodshed on its soil. A mass exodus began; the citizens of the great golden nation of Alluum no longer felt safe in their small villages nestled in the depths of Airim Glade or in the open vastness of the Bemol Plains, so they moved to Xidwin and Altshof, the two largest cities in the country. Despite the war being fought away from the main population, the cities still suffered damage from awry magical spells and subterfuge from the enemy necromancers.

Surplus millions moved into the cities, and even the wealthiest of people are left on the burning streets or sent packing back to their original hometowns. With the end of the war, the war veterans, the dragon riders of Evercrest Academy, are able to help build Xidwin and Altshof into cities like that of Nimog, the capital of Seville, thanks to the blueprints drawn out by the dwarves living in the Evercrest Mountains.

Thousands of riders and dragons, some still students, others newly-appointed to their class head positions, are sent to the skies of Altshof and Xidwin to lift materials into place. Everyone is pitching in on the great race to build the cities to accommodate for the influx in population and also account for lost farming due to families leaving their farmland. Most of the Evercrest students and alumni are sent to Xidwin, which is where the bulk of this roleplay will take place. How a group of shell-shocked teens and adults will handle building a city is left to be seen.

Lore is an integral part of the roleplay, despite the post length and literacy being lax. There is all kinds of lore to go out and learn about, including: information on our magic system, the humanoid races, dragons, and the school. A quick run-down on all of these things is posted here, but if you want to learn more, just click on the links as they show up to lead you to a wiki article about them. Don't hesitate to ask questions!

HUMANOIDS are split into magic and non-magic races. In Evercrest Academy, there are nine classes -- not classroom classes, but RPG classes (think mage, rogue and melee) -- and these classes are split by their segregation of race. Magic races -- wizards, fairies, skygge, demons, elves, necromancers, magic-magic hybrids -- are allowed into the magic classes: divines, sorcerers and alchemists. Non-magic races -- vampires, humans, angels, drows, dwarves, non-magic - non-magic hybrids, non-magic - magic hybrids -- are allowed into the non-magic classes: vanguards, intermediaries and crusaders. All races are allowed into the neutral classes: wardens, couriers and erasers. The class a character is in is determined by an entrance exam when they enter the school. These will not be roleplayed here, and you are allowed to choose your character's class. All humanoids who attend or have attended Evercrest Academy have dragons, and their dragon's species is determined by class.

DRAGONS are split into several different groupings of species and sub-species depending on their ability to make fertile offspring. Dragons in the Shadelings universe come in all shapes and colors, but for the purpose of this Rebuilding Xidwin roleplay, we ask to just keep the dragons to the nine class species. Intermediaries are a new class at the beginning of this, and they were formed from the erasers and vanguards, so they will most likely have archangel or teleios dragons depending on their previous occupation. The species are as follows: amphipteres, courier dragons; archangels, eraser dragons; asparas, divine dragons; eodai, warden dragons; jafari, intermediary dragons; landvættir, sorcerer dragons; skavos, alchemist dragons; teleios, vanguard dragons; and whispers, crusader dragons. All dragons have the same intelligence as the humanoids, and all can communicate with humanoids by speaking verbally (except skavos, whom have to speak telepathically). A dragon and rider bond upon first contact, and should the pair be separated by death, the remaining part will more often than not die of a broken heart or spiral into insanity and eventual suicide.

EVERCREST ACADEMY is an elite dragon rider academy located in the Evercrest Mountains in southern Alluum. The academy is known around the world for training the best dragon riders in the world since the dawn of the Dragon Era. In order for students to be accepted into the academy, they must undergo a rigorous trial week where they practice their skills, go through an entrance exam before the eight class heads (which is a show of their skills), and if they're lucky enough to be accepted into a class, they must be able to hatch or call a dragon. This is a tall order, and the institution only opens its doors every twelve years to new students. Those lucky enough to be accepted will become students at the academy and be taught by a mentor, who will take them on class-related missions all across Alksheist to help hone their real-world skills in their profession. The eight classes that were available to current students are: alchemists, the scholars; crusaders, the knights; couriers, the diplomats; divines, the religious leaders; erasers, the assassins; sorcerers, the battlemages; vanguards, the spies; and wardens, the nature-keepers. When the Rebellion began, the intermediary class was introduced and was made up by non-magic students and mentors from the eraser and vanguard classes. Intermediaries deliver mail and aid.

THE NECROMANCER REBELLION is the civil war that just occurred in Alluum. It took place between 4606 and 4653 DE, with the main alliances being the necromancer rebels and Evercrest riders. The rebels used armies raised from the dead coupled with their awesome power and dragons of their own to give the riders a challenge. Souls were destroyed, innocent people were kidnapped and brainwashed by magic to fight for the necromancers, and some civilians willingly took up arms against the riders. The rebels demanded equality with Evercrest and equality for their own race. The largest battles of the war took place in 4650 through 4653 DE, with the riders being declared the victors of the war after The Battle of Floyd Peak on the 12th of Ahwin. The war resulted not only in more prejudice against the necromancers, but also with the Evercrest riders being viewed as the protectors and saviors of Alluum. Several thousand dragons, riders, civilian military, and rebels died in the rebellion. The number is somewhere around 200,000 dead with even more casualties.

Alksheist is a semi-futuristic world. While there isn't space travel or airplanes, there are cars, steel and hovercraft. Cities have farms inside of buildings; fossil fuels are a thing of the past; holograms and electricity are realities. There are also medieval places, and places that are reminiscent of indigenous tribes. It depends on where you are in the world, and this affects how much the characters know about technology.

Xidwin is located in Alluum, in the Bemol Plains. It's about a hundred miles from Evercrest, and is the capital of the country. Currently, pieces of it have been destroyed by necromancer attacks and it is grossly overpopulated, even for its size. It is similar to Manhattan in New York City, with skyscrapers and modern technology of all kinds along with businesses and streets. It does have cars, but most people travel by hovercraft.

The plan is to build Xidwin into a much larger, much more vertical city. This will help give wild dragons more room to roam, give the city a certain aesthetic, and also make building onto the city simple and easy. The dwarves from The Sidways and the Evercrest Mountains have supplied the blueprints for the new cities: bigger buildings, miles high, made of metal-infused glass so specially-made hovercraft can traverse the city's heights.

Currently, there are about ten stories built on about four of the megabuildings. People are being located into them as the rest of the buildings in the city are being torn down or built around for the remaining megastructures to be put in.

01: RESPECT everyone. In the famous words from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, "Be excellent to each other. And party on, dudes!" Should a problem arise, take it away from our boards please.

02: LITERACY here isn't going to be super stringent or anything. We do ask that you use proper grammar and spelling in your IC replies, but you may type however you wish in OOC chat. We also would like to ask for at least five sentences a post -- this is just one paragraph. Since this is a casual roleplay, we don't need 500+ words a reply, but if you would like to write that much, go for it! If you consistently write less than the minimum, I'll ask you to beef up your replies. It's hard to reply to two sentences, guys!

03: NO GMING/PPING. Your character shalt not know other characters' darkest secrets, or their darkest parts. Thou shalt not roleplay others' characters.

04: NO MARY SUES OR GARY STUS. Your characters shalt not be perfect.

05: FOLLOW THE LORE. This is easily the most important rule. Please, please, please follow the lore! I will deny a character based on lore, so be sure you follow the lore. If you ever have any questions, don't be afraid to ask! You're not bothering me; I love questions. <3

06: PLEASE MAKE A DRAGON PERSONALITY WHEN YOU MAKE AN EVERCREST HUMANOID. This is so we guarantee everyone a dragon; please make your dragon a personality so they can be the correct species to compliment their rider's class. You can also make a full dragon if you've already plotted a pair with someone. Pairs will be randomly assigned to riders who need dragons if there isn't anything plotted for the dragon/rider pairing.

Do I have to make a dragon?

If you're making any Evercrest character who has a dragon, you need to make a dragon too. This is to keep the dragon/rider ratio even.

Does my character have to be a rider?

No, you can also play civilians (or just dragons) if you wish. Do note that civilians probably won't have a dragon, though. Very few people are able to have a bond with a dragon.

Can I play my rider's dragon / dragon's rider?

I would prefer that you have someone else play the other part of your pairing, but since this is a very casual roleplay, you're welcome to play your own dragon/rider. Just know that they will need their own application, and that their relationship needs to be realistic. A super mean dragon isn't going to be nice to their rider just because they're their rider, for example.

Will my character have a mentor if they're a student?

Their previous mentor may have died in the war, but all students will have mentors. They may or may not be in the roleplay here depending on the characters available.

Can I play a class head?

You can, but I'm going to be way tougher on class head applications. They do have to be the best of the best of their class to be a class head.

Do I get to pick the class of my character?

Yes, although keep in mind their skillset and race. A mage can't be a vanguard, for example, and a person who can't fight wouldn't make a very good crusader. I trust in your ability to make characters who are good at stuff -- keep in mind these students just survived a war! Also Evercrest Academy is reserved for people who are really good at what they do, so please keep this all in mind when making your characters.

If a rider's dragon dies, do they die? (And vice versa?)

The short answer is usually. Dragons and riders are bonded through their souls; they literally have a piece of the same soul from the same soul stew, and that's how they were able to bond. It's not like The Inheritance Cycle where a rider will immediately die from their dragon dying, though. It's a spiral into depression, paranoia and psychosis until the rider/dragon eventually commits suicide. For younger dragon/rider pairings, it is certainly possible to move on from the death of a partner, but older pairings will have a very hard time living on. There are hospitals for dragons and riders alike to help them work through it, but even after the intensive counselling, most do still end up committing suicide or dying from malnutrition, dehydration or just a broken heart.

Did civilians also fight in the war?

Yes. With addition to Evercrest's riders, Alluum also has a standing military. There is a navy and army that is full of just civilians, and they helped the riders during the rebellion.

Are civilians also helping to build the city?

Yes. The riders are mainly there to help with heavy lifting and magic; civilians who have skilled contracting jobs are also helping out. Electricians, plumbers, interior designers, painters, metalworkers and almost any other kind of skilled professional can be found on the job site.
