Tis a good question indeed. The magicians are part of the 'something going on behind the scenes'. I wanted to show what the magicians would be up to as well, but my dilemma was the only way I could explain it in a way that made sense at the moment might result in giving away some secrets that I didn't want to yet...

I know it's possible, my question was regarding the placement in the plot
Are we the magicians a cohesive unit?
Are we the "bad guys"?
Are we aware of it all?
Do we know something they don't at the academy?
etcl....

Well... I'd say the lines between antagonist and protagonist will be blurry at the beginning. So not necessarily. Depends on how you look at it.

When the plot description only mentions one group, that group is the protagonists
Of course, every character is the hero of their own story, but the magicians are it seems, the ones interfiering in the overall goal, whichever the reasons may be, so they would be categorized as antagonists

In classic Index fashion I assume the final cast will be a rag tag group of Magic and Science. I don't think it's so much about if you're on the Magic or Science Side, but rather which side of the BIG PLOT coin you fall on once it's eventually revealed.

I will want to see how things balance out first, because I don't want to have the ration between Espers and Magicians be too disproportionate, but generally I'd be fine with that, yes.
