The energy within the village had buzzed to life as word of a returning party of soldiers had been spotted shortly outside of the village walls. There had been no word of their return for nearly a year by now, and the sudden return had received a mix response. Most were concerned and worried that their efforts had been one of failure, and they may not have seen loved ones alive once more. As they had been called upon as aid for a village about a week's journey outside of their own, by horseback anyway. There had been raids happening all outside the walls of their humble village, and it was only due to their fierce numbers and even fiercer soldiers that they remained standing, while others crumbled beneath any oppressive weight that stood against them. Others in the village, buzzed with an energy of shock. They had expected maybe a message sent by raven, giving news of their eventual return. Especially after being gone for so long. Not for the party to return unannounced. But any return of their beloved soldiers in question, was a welcomed one at that. Especially seeing as the chief's daughter was among the group in question.
There was sudden shouting of voices alongside the outer wall, as figures gathered upon the higher platform. Pointing out below, unable to be seen by anyone that was on the ground below. Cheers echoed from the small group of those who kept watch over the wall, waving their hands in excitement.
"Open the gate!" one of the captains of the village guard barked below. Multiple men scattered below the wall as they began the procedure of opening the gate. A pully-system consisting of rope and several wooden and metal mechanisms cranked to life as one man strained himself as he pushed the main lever, while another quickly over and under handed fed the rope, and two others unlatched the thick metal braces that kept the central point of the gate secured. Serving as the only proper 'lock' of the entire front gate.
Various crowds formed around the entrance of the front gate as it opened, dozens of individuals stood awaiting to be let in. The one leading the party was a tall blond woman, her hair reaching her lower back, hanging loosely passed her shoulders. Tucked neatly behind her ears, except for a few stray stands here and there. Those could never be helped, even when she was only a small child. But that was a lifetime ago, it seemed. Now she stood tall and firm, equal in height to nearly all the men of their village. A single fur coat adorned her form, acting as the only true form of warmth on her person. Even during the warmer months, it would still reach colder temperatures outside of the village, amongst the various woods, sea coast and valleys that lied outside their small domain.
The woman's eyes scanned over the sea of faces that stared back at her, giving small nods to those that gave her welcoming pats on the shoulder and back. An occasional hug from someone she may have been closer to than others, all which went nearly entirely ignored. None of these faces were one she was in search for. That was until her eyes landed on one specific figure. His attention hadn't been on the returning party it seemed, as he still had an axe in hand, and was in the middle of bringing the axe down once more. Slicing a large oak log in half. Both halves slumping down and clattering to the ground. He reached for another one, his attention still focused on his task at hand. The woman brought two of her fingers to her mouth, and a sharp whistled sounded. Forcing the man to pause where he stood. He slowly turned on his heel, before pausing as he slowly looked up. An emotionless expression on his face as his eyes landed on the woman. Taking in properly the person that stood before him. "Fynn, you're...You're back?" his voice was low, holding a semblance of confusion at first, but soon filled with a sense that one could only consider to be that of nostalgia. His eyes never once leaving her form.
Fynn gave a small nod, before giving a small shrug, "So it would seem." she said plainly, as if the two were talking about the weather. And not that they hadn't seen each other in a year by now.
A large smile formed on Magni's face as he dropped the axe by his feet, and rushed forward. Wrapping his arms around the woman in a tight embrace. Practically picking her up in the process, spinning her around for a moment before letting her back down gently. Resulting in a chuckle from Fynn.
"Oh don't tell me you're getting sentimental now, Magni." a cheeky grin on her face, as she gently patted his face with her hand. A form of endearment that they had developed over the years.
"For you?" he said with a small head tilt, "Always." he beamed. "Does your father know you're back already?" he paused, "...Does Bo?"
Fynn gave a small shake of her head, "No, not yet. But you know how word travels fast. They'll find out shortly, I'm sure." Fynn gave a small nod.
Magni nodded in return, "How about we beat them to it, huh? I think I saw Bo around here just a little while ago."
