Hey there. 
A post is when you...well, post something on the site. After you click, "post reply." Everything you post on the site counts as a post except for things in Private Workshop, Private Messages and Forum Games section. (I believe). And then when you get your ten posts, you have things available to you on the site that you could not do before. Like send private messages.
