Question about the rules-

Quip a Witticism

Er... I knew that, probably.
Okay so, this is just a really quick, silly question that could probably be answered easily, but I feel like I gotta ask it anyhow.

You know how there are explicit rules against Role Playing erotic content?

Alright, I read through the rules for the kajillionth time, and I was wonder about people talking about sexual themes/ slurs/ vulgarity in casual conversation. Is it allowed to slur genitalia and talk about committing acts along the lines of sexuality, in reference to characters OR even themselves?

Like, I came across this post, and I found my brows raised at the language being used, and the fact that they were literally talking about sexual content.. is.. is that
allowed?

Or am I just jumping the gun? /
Ploops/ Honestly, I didn't see anything in the rules, so I just don't know. Is this something I should be reporting if I see it? Especially if its derogatory slurs?

It's always a safe bet to report anything that raises eyebrows. If it's fine, the mods will just ignore it and move on... if it's not, then it'll be dealt with as needed :)

Erotic role play, as you have mentioned is verbotten on the site. There is a limit to how much ooc language is acceptable where such talk is allowed. IC chat, however, is a different matter. If the talk is made by a character then it is usually okay. But there is a line.

If something makes you go, hey, that's just mean! Then the staff isn't going to do anything about it. If it's something that's insulting well... that's not nice but also not something that is grounds for punishment. If something is truly vile, however, report it. The mods can't be everywhere at once so if you see something, say something. Just realize that you won't hear back from the staff.

Thank you all for the extremely helpful information! Seriously, that clarification was just what I needed to get a good idea on what that rule entails.

I really appreciate getting the advice, because now I know what to do if a situation arises. Thanks so much for taking the time out of your day/night to help me out! You all are wonderful. (o'v'o)

To add to what has already been said... It's all context dependent, really. We have filters set in place for the worst of the worst slurs, which I believe they're all set to translate to "I'm uncultured." That's fine if the filter remains. It's not okay if someone tries to get around the filter. As the PSA will indicate, erotic content only pertains to descriptions of sexual acts/genitalia. So, if say someone were to casually say "what a dick," that's totally fine for the most part. If someone's actively insulting, using slurs against an individual or group of individuals on the site, and the person is telling them to stop and the person persists anyway, then that could potentially be grounds for harassment. If the other person retaliates with slurs and insults of their own, that's one of many places where things get really muddled. IC, though, characters are allowed to insult each other to their heart's content, so long as it doesn't tread on the ERP rule and/or try to get around filters.

We try not to impose too many censors on users, overall, and while we don't want this place to degrade into some pseudo-4chan, we will accomadate for some of the more crass things that could be said. I hope that clarifies things a bit more?

Seems I've come in too late to tell you something you don't already know, but I'll try my best.

Yes, as further stated, PSA takes a large role in the foundation of the site, all the way up to not being allowed to join if not under the age of 13. This being said, there are 13 year-olds on the site. PSA prohibits users from using words pertaining to anything sexual such as genitalia and/or sexual actions. This includes, but does not limit to, sexual intercourse, inappropriate touching of the body, and sexually graphic conversation. As previously stated, the use of foul language and such is allowed if not used to completely bash another user. Characters in roleplays are more than welcome to swear at one another. At the age requirement for the site, users are expected to read the rules, and to know what words are acceptable and which ones aren't. Some things are just better left unsaid.

So long as there's no second base or inserting Tab A into Slot B, there's a lot of wiggle room. What annoys me, as a mod, are extended discussions about hentai and stuff because then I have to determine if it's in an erotic context or not. If it's people making crass jokes or explaining something in a non-erotic context... it's uuuuuusually fine. Usually.

But also since it's tangentially related, obligatory reminder that sexytimes in the PMs or discussing taking it off site via RPN also constitutes breaking the site rules, which may possibly invoke the wrath of the feds for hosting or distributing child pornography.

So like, for anyone reading this - don't do that. Please.

Yes! That definitely makes sense. See, I'm really glad I got up the courage to ask, because this was really insightful! I almost thought maybe it was a silly question, and I almost didn't ask.

But I am happy that I did, because now I don't have to sit here and wonder quietly about appropriate courses of action. You all are very kind and helpful, and your explanations were amazing! Thank you guys again, I appreciate everyone's time you all took to help me out.

Any question for the improvement of the site culture, no matter how simple, is a bad question. It's much better to ask and be that much more knowledgeable as a citizen then to stay silent. Plus, now people can reference this thread for clarification in the future. You're history. :)

I think you might mean 'NO question is a bad question' rather than 'any'.

Just thought I'd clarify so people don't read it wrong like I did at first. :P

EDIT: Ooh, or maybe "Any question for the improvement of the site culture, no matter how simple, is never a bad question."
