So I was already wondering how to top off the amazing year that was 2015 (read all about it here) and then though to my self "What if I could answer the question that has been plaguing the site for years now" the question I'm talking about is of course the following:
"Dear Wizard, why is it that alerts stop coming in if I stop viewing a thread"
This question has lead to annoyance, to many users thinking its broken and more. However it is the way the forum software is coded to prevent spamming. However today we found an addon that can change that behavior and I'm pleased to announce you can enable persistent alerts.
If you enable Persistent Alerts, for any threads you are watching, alerts will always come in whether you viewed the thread or not. Finally long gone are the days of being annoyed at missing alerts because you didn't view a thread and your roleplay partners kept replying and moved on with out you. This would often happen when you hovered over the alerts bubble, dismissing it with out actually viewing the thread.
To enable Persistent Alerts, you can find the option in your Alerts Preferences located here. You should also check out your regular account preferences here and set auto watching settings to your liking so every thread you reply to doesn't send you a ton of alerts. If too many users complain when they opt it in, we might make Persistent Alerts work only for roleplays.
