Promised Land: Dragon Skies

Brighton Mace:

She awoke early in the morning, using the chill of dawn as her warning, feeling the ash upon her face mix into her pale skin. Brighton was a child born of the forest folk, yet captured and taken from her home, she has since lived the life of a slave, throwing away her chance of freedom, though hoping for the freedom of others. Upon the darkness of the sky, she knew this morning shall be her chance to run, and find help for her kind, her people. She had heard whispers throughout the town, while she worked, hearing news of someone who was strong, and knew a weapon well. Brighton pulled herself from the hay stuffed mattress, her night gown was the only thing she could wear, though it was really just a purple dress she used in the night because it would give her at least some warmth.

Upon the ashes settling into her pale skin she decided to quickly steal her master's cloak and make a run for it, taking a basket of food, and a small blade which she easily hid in the basket if she found the wrong type of people in the forest. Once more before she left the large manor she looked into the mirror in the entrance of the manor, slowly she began to see herself as a young woman whose about to take a risk, carefully she touched the necklace around her neck, looking at the glowing from the pendant before drawing a breathe, sighing softly. Footsteps from the hall snapped her out of thought before she flinched sharply turning to see her master at the top of the stairs with a smug expression. "Morning Master, I was just about to go out and get some bread from the markets." Brighton felt her voice shake like it when she lied, which made her master figure out she wasn't though, it seemed he'd be playing along.

She watched his shallow steps set into the stair carpet, leaving little dents in the carpet of where his expensive shoes sat, with each step she felt her heart racing and veins pound with the risks of being caught so early into her plan. Brighton slowly found her steps going backwards, and a quick turn then she was out the door hearing her master yell out for the hunting dogs to follow after her. "Shit... Shit..." She cursed coughing slightly, as she would throw her basket at the dogs, as one jumped up and bit her on the hand, the only thing she could do is stab it with the dagger, though it was against her codes she sighed softly watching the dogs drop back with the dead dog loosely falling from her right hand. Though she continued to run pulling the cloak's hood over her head as she would continue onto the forest's path.

By the time the sun was up she had been running for hours and she was exhausted, and sweating. Her hand continued to bleed heavily as she would whimper at the pain of just moving it, the blood left a trail she wished wouldn't be the death of her, as she slowed beginning to stroll hoping to catch her breathe. She didn't remember the forests well, it had been a lot time since she had been in one, though it startled her when a bunch of men jumped from the trees they were bandits. Brighton's bright blue eyes showed fright once more, as she was caught by one and lifted over the shoulders of him, it was like he didn't have to make an effort with her since she was small and under-feed. "Let me go!" Brighton bit the man's shoulder only to be thrown off once they reached there camp. "I need to go find help so let me go! People in a city not far from here need help!" She stubbornly spat at the man's feet. Hearing someone else behind her.
