  Note: The concept of Threshold comes from the 2005 TV series by this name.
  
  The government has contingency plans for use in emergencies ranging from natural disasters to nuclear war. In order to have "all bases covered", one of the plans, code-named Threshold, was developed for dealing with the unlikely eventuality of first contact with aliens.
  
  The Threshold plan calls for the formation of a secret government task force known as the Red Team. As a result, several top scientists are seconded: a microbiologist; an aerospace engineer, and a mathematics and linguistics genius. The Red Team will be led by the government crisis management consultant who wrote the Threshold Protocol. This leader works for a fictional firm called Blackwell Institute, a sort of think tank that researches and prepares for disasters, both military and civilian.
  
  The government liaison will be the Deputy National Security Advisor while a freelance paramilitary operative serves as the "muscle" of the group. The team will work under absolute secrecy, their activities not even known to the Vice-President, or the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

  For an idea of Earth’s current technology, look at the movies: Stealth; The Martian; and Space Between Us. In short, mankind is making its first steps into interplanetary space. There is a tiny settlement on the Moon and Mars. The first Enceladus mission is under development. The first asteroid mining missions are under way. Space tourism has finally begun and is more affordable than imagined.
  
  Down on Earth, Global warming is getting much worse. The majority of cars are now driverless and electric. Air Cars are now in production, though only the rich can really afford them. They do not require a driver. Most meat is now synthetic and tastes like the real thing. Chocolate is only for the rich. Alternate sources of protein have caught on - like cricket meal.

  The year is 2039 (nearly 20 years from now). On Mar 1, an event occurred that would forever change mankind. They would learn that humans were not alone in the universe. When it was first spotted it was travelling at 1% SoL (speed of light) just beyond Jupiter, some 650 million km away. Decelerating at 1g it would arrive in just over 4 days. As it approached the mothership began to adjust its course. It finally set itself into a Lunar L4 Lagrange point, clearing the asteroids there and launching the Scout Ship which made its way to Earth. (Humans have a permanent International Spaceport at the L1 which operates under a treaty.)
  
  The scout ship landed in the region of Flaming Gorge, Utah.

  The smaller vessel is called the Scout Ship because only a single launch was detected rather than an invasion fleet. However, both vessels appear to be employing a form of stealth technology.

  Red Team - These should be top members in their fields. I will be VERY critical of these. But they do NOT have to be perfect people. Character flaws are welcome so long as they wouldn’t jeopardize the mission. Please research the skills needed. The Paramilitary guy should have a file so redacted there will be more missing than readable. He has two goals.

  I will run the Deputy National Security Advisor. He is really a minor part roleplay wise making cameos as needed. But he won’t be going on missions with the team.
  
  SCA member. Most of these should be secondary characters as they will lack any clearances. They will be from the Salt Lake City area. Typically SCA members are college age, but some are older. Others could be military, though not necessarily compat positions. Those are the source of about 80% of their membership. Back in the 1980’s the USS Nimitz had a small group known as the "Shire of Curragh Mor" – anglicized Irish for "Big Boat." Berlin had a group called the Shire of Perilous Journey back before the Wall came down formed mainly from military members and their spouses. The SCA began at Berkeley.

  Phase I - Military arrives to pick up the various Red Team members wherever they are. It doesn’t matter where. They will arrive with specialists who will pick up your pet dog to take care of it, drive or two your car home, whatever. You could even be at a friend’s bachelor party. They will not know what has happened. It is above their pay grade and your security clearance is higher than theirs. Get the picture?
  
  The Security guy just gets a call about a new assignment, gets picked up. Pretty low key. The man is a professional.
  
  Note:
  
  Phase II - Meet up at the Threshold Ops Center. This is where your labs will be. Team gets briefed, then told “wheels up in ten.”
  
  Phase III - Team arrives in Flaming Gorge, UT where the Scout craft crashed or landed. Locate witnesses, quarantine, interview, etc. Locate and investigate the ship.
  
  Phase IV - First Contact.
  
  From here it all depends on how First Contact goes. Don’t blow it. Fate of the human race and all that. The aliens DO have an agenda.

  This will be an advanced RP. Writers should be very literate.
  We will use third person, past tense.
  500 words should be a minimum.
